USA Today had a short snippet in Life section that Warners would release two different versions of Forbidden Planet, one for about $28 the other for about $60. This will be mid-November.

"Monsters John! Monsters from the Id!"

Fantastic, I'm so glad they didn't miss this mega sci-fi classic's 50th anniversary.

Re: Warner announces Forbidden Planet for November

For $60, I'd hope they include a model of Robbie the Robot -- I can't think of anything else to justify the price.

Re: Warner announces Forbidden Planet for November

Perhaps a copy of the long out of print novel.

Re: Warner announces Forbidden Planet for November

From USA TODAY:

Forbidden Planet

will be released by Warner Bros. Nov. 14 in two DVD editions to mark its 50th anniversary. The two-disc special edition ($27) includes the restored film, three documentaries and other programs featuring Robby the Robot. A collector's edition ($60) comes with a Robby action figure and lobby cards.

Re: Warner announces Forbidden Planet for November

Sounds good!

That's probably a $60 MSRP so will be around $45 or so. There's some fun stuff in the CE but I'll probably go with the regular version.

Re: Warner announces Forbidden Planet for November

Ah yes, a Robby the Robot action figure would look great on my desk. The Collector's Edition it is, then!

Re: Warner announces Forbidden Planet for November

This will be well worth the wait --- HD Movies Network ran "Forbidden Planet" several months ago, and the new transfer was just gorgeous.

Re: Warner announces Forbidden Planet for November

Some Specs per Variety:
Warner Home Video is expected to announce today that what many film historians consider the most influential sci-fi film ever made will arrive Nov. 14 in two DVD editions: a two-disc special edition and an ultimate collector's edition. For both editions, the movie, in a new widescreen version, has been digitally transferred from restored film and audio elements, while the soundtrack has been remastered in Dolby Digital 5.1.

Extras include commentaries, additional scenes, three documentaries and two subsequent programs featuring the movie's celebrated Robby the Robot: the 1958 MGM feature film "The Invisible Boy" and the "Robot Client" episode from TV's "The Thin Man."

[bites fist] Can't we have it now and forget about the "we're releasing it in November" malarkey!

Whoa really can't wait for this, so Invisible Boy is a bonus movie than? Nice.

Tremendous news indeed! Great job Warner Bros. (And you just know I'm going to have to spring for the version with the Robby the Robot action figure. )

Re: Warner announces Forbidden Planet for November

Unless the Maltese Falcon set is really good, I think this is going to be the DVD of the year.

I have a collection of model robots on top of my computer, and Robbie will look great between Bender and the Cylon.

And then we get The Invisible Boy, too!

Re: Warner announces Forbidden Planet for November

WOW!!!!

That certainly justifies the MSRP!!!

I'm so excited about this - ultimate box set it is!!!
