I didn't know about that. How very pathetic.

Could you Mattias? That would be great since on my monitor, which also has no overscan, the framing on both are identical.

They most certainly are not. There is less info on all 4 sides of the dvd than on the ld.
I compared the two and they looked identical. Have you compared the two George?
Yes. And on my system, which has zero overscan, I can assure you there is more info on the sides of the ld than on the dvd.
Or do you have a link showing the LD is framed correctly while the DVD is not?
I can not capture ld screenshots. But there is clearly more info, not just on the sides, but also top & bottom on the ld, and it's reasonable to assume that it's closer to the intended frame. Certainly, the director approved the ld release, and not the dvd.

I remember us having this conversation before George and you providing a link to a site which compared the 70Mm print to the DVD and clearly the DVD was missing info.

However the LD transfer was not mentioned in that link and as I have said, I compared the two and they were identical.

Hopefully Mattias will post those comparisons and end this debate at least.

And before we turn this thread into another IAMMMMW debate, here is a good thread to continue if we wish.

That is no problem at all. It's ALL in the mastering and what master one use. There are a lot of movie where the non-anamorphic disc look better and have more detail. Just look at the Sid & Nancy DVD from Criterion, and compare to the other 16:9 DVD's.

I will try. Working like hell right now but when I get the chance I fix it.

A streetcar named Desire

The original 97 single disc from Warners had a slightly sharper more detailed look.

The 2006 2 disc special edition looked like they applied some noise reduction software to the orginal transfer. Sure it's slightly less grainy but at the expense of softness.

One of WB's rare stuff ups and not worthy of the term "restoration".
