Interesting info, Lyle; I did not know Anchor Bay released now THREE versions of Halloween 4....I believe I have the anamorphic version (release number two) which gave, as you said, a rather "dead 5.1 experience"; indeed, the track was very dissapointing.....

What about the audio mix on the metal tin cased cut of the film (the limited edition tin)?

That's the same disc as the anamorphic (second) release.

Yes, not only was the 5.1 mix on the non-anamorphic disc more full surround-wise, but it also had much more bass and doesn't have original sound effects missing. Yes, that's right, the 5.1 mix on the anamorphic release actually has some of the original sound effects missing entirely. For example, when the two paramedics first arrive at the Federal Sanitarium to collect Myers, on the original Ultra*Stereo mix, there was a loud audible buzz as they enter the facility, as if they were being buzzed in. It's also on the first DVD, but was omitted from the mix entirely on the anamorphic disc. This was just one of about 4 things I noticed.

I really wish that Anchor bay would have taken that first 5.1 mix and used it on the Divimax disc.

Very interesting Lyle. Sounds like perhaps the 5.1 remix Chase did for the ORIGINAL Halloween may have come off better (with the THX certification) than their attempts at 5.1 tracks on Halloween 4....go figure....I mean, the 5.1 track on the original Halloween is pretty anemic, sure, with lots of lack of dynamic range and volume punch, but that thunderstorm scene when Loomis arrives at the sanatarium simply booms for a film of that age and budget, as remixed for 5.1.....I could not recall anything grabbing my attention on Anchor Bay's Halloween 4 Dolby Digital 5.1 track...

I think I may keep the disc I have now of 4, as I dont really watch it all that much unless it's Halloween, and even then, I dont usually get past Season of the Witch during my annual Halloween Movie Marathon.

Has anybody had a chance to compare picture quality of the 2nd release vs. the third (Divimax) release?

I hadn't realised about the sound effects missing on the redux 5.1 track. That sucks. I remember that "buzzing in" sound from the laserdisc too. Sadly I no longer have the laserdisc nor the first DVD edition. Bugger.

I think the whole cult thing started with Halloween 2 -- remember the druid writings on the chalkboard?? That was the first allusion to the cult...

I don't understand why H20 nor Halloween 6 hasn't been re-released yet in anamorphic widescreen. I really think they need to get a Special Edition of Halloween 6 that includes both the theatrical & producer's cut all in anamorphic widescreen. I haven't bought either one of those for that reason.

Resurrection was a joke and by far the worst one. But, now that the producer Moustapha was killed in Israel, I guess Rob Zombie will be trying to do his own thing with Halloween starting from the beginning, but I don't really care much for his style either--he has no sense of suspense.

Especially since both have been widely available in anamorphic widescreen for years in Region 2. In fact, the region 2 disc of part 6 has 5.1 sound.

No doubt. Just watching all the stuff on the H25 discs makes it pretty clear that nearly everyone involved with the making of part 6 prefers the first cut. They all seem to feel that the re-shot footage was a bad panic-reaction to test screenings.

He was killed in Jordan. I strongly suspect that Moustapha Akkad had never (nor would have ever) set foot in Israel.

And it would sell the most copies!! The Producer's Cut has such a reputation now among Halloween fans, that if they included both cuts, then even those who didn't like the Theatrical Cut would be tempted to buy it, so they'd be getting both fan bases.

For those that haven't seen the H6 Producer's Cut, it helps the movie but it's still not very good. That being said, I'd love to see it released.
