So is stuff going to be chopped off at the sides in 3D then?

Gear mentioned in this thread:

No, I think the 2.35:1 image will be extracted from the 1.85 digital original.

Just like "The Dark Knight", yes.

Cameron has always been pretty agreeable to cropping/massaging his image to fit various aspect ratios. I remember the extras on the T2 laserdisc (I think this made it onto the DVD, although I can't remember), showing a real-time example of the image extraction for both the 4:3 pan-n-scan and 2:35:1 image. In both cases portions of the full negative were cropped, just in different areas.

As biased as I am, meaning I can't be depended upon for an impartial opinion but for whatever it's worth the score is a great listen.

The ensemble is constantly shifting in this score just as Horner described - you'll hear orchestra, then percussion, then Na'vi music or vocals, then orchestra again, or it will be in different combinations throughout.

The Na'vi vocals play a large part in this score.

"The Bioluminescence Of The Night" is my favorite, along with the lively "Climbing up Ikinmaya - The Path To Heaven" and "Jake's First Flight".

"Quaritch" is a great orchestral / vocal attack.

"War" is a massive orchestral / electronic assault, yet it finishes off appropriately before the song. It's awesome.

This score will certainly have its detractors, but that's to be expected with any new Horner score.

That is awesome!  Are you going to be take pics from the red carpet?  There is also a press screening tomorrow so hopefully we'll see some impressions soon.

Nick: I started looking for the score after you said you had it, but no luck!  Less than a week till it comes out so I can wait!  Glad you like it.

No.  No cameras are allowed for those attending the screening.

They are going to put us through heavy security.

There's an East Coast press screening today, according to a DVD Talk member who will post his thoughts afterward.

If you go to the soundtrack's website, avatarscore.com, there's a "listening party" hosted by Twitter at 3 PM EST today.
Atlantic Records put the album up online for free as exclusives like the song was last week.

Thanks for reminding me about the listening party, I'd forgotten about that!
