I agree, I'm a litle bored, but there's plenty to watch.
I've said this before, we will probally see the majority of great HD DVD titles around Thanksgiving-Christmas.

I too want Batman Begins and C&C factory.

I actually want Paramount to release those first wave titles they were suppose to. (Four Bros. & Tomb Raider)

Warner doesn't announce their titles very much in advance so expect many releases after 7/11/06. Many times they've announced within a week of the release so there will be plenty to choose from.

Without doubt, my taste in film is much broader than many on this forum so buying titles I wanted on HD wasn't a problem with me. However, if I was you and didn't like any of the films already released then I would've waited before buying into this format war. As someone alluded to already, I expect the HD releases in the 4th quarter to be titles many of us will want on HD.

I have said it before, and I'll say it again : I'm not buying either format until there are releases I want. Without that, a player does me no good.

Patience is a virtue, even for those of us buying the titles. I waited almost two weeks for Syriana and Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang because I got them at a great price from Amazon, and because they only got a small initial shipment.

And I realize we have different taste in movies, but there is nothing lame about Goodfellas, Unforgiven, Lethal Weapon, Blazing Saddles, Serenity, and others. Even movies I have missed in theaters and DVD, like Chronicles of Riddick and Van Helsing, were entertaining.

I am not sure why Warner is playing their release schedule so close to the vest, unless it has something to do with planning around available manufacturing capacity. Maybe they would rather not make release promises they can not keep.

Let me recommend something you might find useful as titles are finding their way to the format: Netflix. They carry HD DVD, and this is a great alternative to purchasing the right to watch eye candy you may not want to keep. I've re-subscribed for just this purpose (although I still tend to buy discs over renting them).

And just wait until Animal House is out. In one month, we can see every marble roll out into the Deathmobile parade. Thank you, Lord!

I was on another forum, on a thread that had people posting there was no problem with the ONE (count them, 1!) major title HD DVD released in the U.S. last week! With NOTHING this week, that's LW (and only LW!) over a three week period.
Snooze fest!!!

Although it's not a huge title, the criminally-overlooked KISS KISS BANG BANG is an awful lot of fun. I haven't enjoyed a recent movie this much in years. Try it, you'll like it.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang - Great fun and I definitely second Mark's recommendation. Especially if you are a fan of noir / detective films.

So then what's the problem? The release schedule is working out to be pretty nice when you consider the list of titles Robert Crawford posted and we're dealing with a format that is less than two months old. DVD post launch had a nice showing thanks to Warners efforts, however, I'd still say that the HD-DVD library offers an excellent variety/diversity of titles. This statement is dead on:

I would add Jarhead, Syriana, The Bourne Supremacy, and Million Dollar Baby to that list in a heartbeat. With Ray, Army of Darkness, Traffic, Enter the Dragon, and Fast Times at Ridgemont high coming in the next 2+ months I have to wonder if a little perspective (and patience) isn't needed here.

No offense Ron, but you're coming off like someone that is new to the concept of being an early adopter. Robert Crawford said it best:

I'm not even sure why you bothered to ask the question of why here. It's a matter of content. If the content available doesn't interest you and you don't have the patience to deal with a limited release schedule so early in the formats life, there's little to no reason for you to be an early adopter here.

For comparison purposes, and the sake of discussion, I hope... Here is ( based on the Excel document at this site ) the early release schedule for DVD. There may be some discrepancies in the Excel document, but this seems fairly close to my recollection. As you can see from this schedule things didn't really start picking up until August of 1997....

Ron,

Lack of content is one reason I am not buying an HD DVD player at this time (price and quality of Blu-ray has to improve before I even consider it). Yes, there are several HD DVD titles which have my interest, but I need more than just a few titles.

I'm hoping by next year things will have changed and I can buy a second generation player (possibly universal player).

P.S. With all of the standard DVD re-releases which have taken place with many titles, it's amazing some of those titles on Walter's list have not been re-released yet!

..and there will be. It's two months after release and you've only now just bought into HD-DVD. You weren't even there at ground zero when the current selection wasn't even available. Again, your expectations need a little perspective IMO. You have the right to express your dismay, and I have the right to tell you that your dismay and "sense of urgency" is unrealistic. As an "early adopter of experience" as you put it, you should be well aware that you won't have new releases at your beck and call and you should know better than to expect such a thing given that experience. As mentioned, patience is a virtue.

Fair enough, but then it seems you may have been better served by waiting until there were titles on the market that DO interest you.

Makes a lot of sense.

I sure wish that Warner Bros. would have re-released Bridges of Madison County in 16x9 widescreen sometime during the intervening years. Who knows, maybe an HD version that finally gets it right will be released. (???)

I guess all the SW films should've been released at launch with the format too.

In Jan, Feb, March, April, and as late as May HD DVD had/has said 200 titles by the end of the year. I don't think and most likely no one else thought there would be a hundred titles by now. Just maybe fifty and surely (DCMS) the titles that were seen on the HD DVD demo disc, by now.
I'm sure there is an argument that one should be happy, to like or to have, five to ten of the 30+ titles that have been released, so far.
I would also hope people would understand that buyers of the format would want...

May '97 does the argument 'good' for "be patient". However, June, July, & August will be tough for HD DVD to match in it's third, fourth, & fifth months of release.
