Re: Blu Ray Ultraviolet - WOW

The only things about Ultra Violent that wowed me were the aliasing on some animation, the apparent digital sharpening on many film shots, and the utter horendousness of the film as a wanna-be work of art...or did I mean fart??? Not impressed! ....in any good ways, of course.

"Wowed" by aliasing??? Is that a "good thing"?
By; "apparent digital sharpening", are you referring to EE?
From the first posts on this thread, I was lead to believe this might be Blu's finest hour (well, 87 minutes anyway).

Re: Blu Ray Ultraviolet - WOW

What, no Blu-ray DC cut at 94 minutes? I sure enjoyed the SD-DVD DC of this film though. Fun, sexy, sleek sci-fi.

Yeah, not a good movie. Wish fall would get here.

Not a good season for new releases anyway.

EE = halos caused by digital sharpening. Aliasing is bad unless one is a con artist, eh! Some of the animation has some ghastly aliasing. Some snipets look like leftovers from the 90's. Some of it looks familar! I collected computer animation on LD's back in the 90's.

The film does have good colour and some good looking scenes, but I doubt there's a whole hour of actual good looking footage in this short, patchwork, film.

When I was reading the cover in Circuit City and it said "blood war", I knew I shouldn't buy it. ....but, I did, my bad!!!

Re: Blu Ray Ultraviolet - WOW

Any posts of double dip will most likily be deleted, so careful people!
I mentioned a film w/o:
DC
SF
Advanced video codec
Lossless audio

Would seem likely for DD. Post was deleted.

So saying a title just w/o an extended cut, I'm sure will be considered "off topic"!
Just a warning.

I would really like to hear more about PQ.
Anyone else wish to post on their video or sound findings?
Thanks.

So your saying, IYO, this title has added EE to the transfer?
I can't tell if your just disgusted by the transfer or movie or both?!?!?!
Thanks.

Re: Blu Ray Ultraviolet - WOW

This movie is way soft and is just one of the most horrible things I have ever watched. You could grate this dvd and put it on top of your pasta

Ed, what Michael said, except I'd put in 50% Romano.

Re: Blu Ray Ultraviolet - WOW

with that many bad BD titles, is it possible that the problem lies with the player? Just curious.

i have a
Sony KDS-R50XBR1
Samsung BDP1000
Toshiba XA1
JVC RX-D702B with HDMI input
Gefen 4x2 HDMI switcher
Pioneer DV-79AVi
i usa all monster HDMI 1000 cables no crap HDMI for connections because the connections are your weakest link...cant have a 4000 dollar tv and a 1000 dollar HDDVD player and use a 50 dollar HDMI cable....that goes for anyone who cant use HDMI and uses component connection....i have absolutly no problems with the blu ray or toshiba with this set up...just a clear beautifull picture...and everything is 1080i....and i get a better picture than the pioneer elite plasma tv's...there ya have it...

trust me punisher and saw was the only 2 i had trouble with the stutter problem....i have all the blu ray titles and those were the only 2 with stutter or dropped frames or what ever you want to call it....and theres not much difference between the DTS or the DD sound tracks on these 2 movies...so it really dosnt bother me at all....the same goes for HDDVD....i had trouble with sound dropping out and going out of sink on U-571...it was just the opposite,i changed from DTS on that movie and went to DD and it played fine...

Re: Blu Ray Ultraviolet - WOW

Terry,
WoW
You would say Blu & HD DVD has the same PQ?
Your a lucky 1 having 2 HD formats!
You must be in HD heaven, right now!
I do not believe "anyone" would argue about BB & CC ability, or lack there of, to setup a demo properly. Just I have not seen a review of any Blu title, that a reviewer has placed next to TD, PotO, BS, or the title you mentioned U-571.
Have you seen a professional review that puts any Blu next to the top titles from HD dVD?
Thanks & enjoy!!!

Here's a link, to all the Blu title reviews, on the GREAT DVDBasen;

Re: Blu Ray Ultraviolet - WOW

Perhaps DTS didn't think these HD things thru, Dolby (both regular, Plus and TrueHD) seem to have things ready and "in sync"

Re: Blu Ray Ultraviolet - WOW

Peter,
Is this DTS's fault or Samsung hardware?
Or, shoot, some 'other' software problem?
Thanks.

Re: Blu Ray Ultraviolet - WOW

Actually I think it's the IC both the Samsung and the Toshiba use.
