But look how small Henry is.... he's tiny... there's a lot of basically empty jungle space to the left that they could have used to give him a head of comparable size. It's gotta be a clue, it's gotta....

Damn I've missed this show.

The BF's mother called on Monday and told him that LOST was on. I was like "Oh hell NO"! Then I realized it most likely the rerun of the season finale from last year.

Dear god, the woman gave me a scare.

Re: Lost season 3 discussion....

I had no idea it was a clip show until the first commercial break. I've never watched the show, and I was thinking, "Man, that's a lot of recap. The producers must think the audience forgets everything over the summer."

That's wonderful Ewok, you just completely spoiled yourself on 2 seasons of a terrific show which relies heavily on mystery.

Re: Lost season 3 discussion....

Isn't the point of a recap show so that new viewers can jump onboard in time for the next season? Also, if the mystery was the only thing that kept people watching the first two seasons, why would anyone pick up the DVDs?

Anyway, all I saw was the first 10 minutes of the clip show, and I didn't learn too much beyond the basic premise of the show and the 108-minute reset. I may or may not tune in to the show next week. The only reason I saw anything tonight was that I did not turn the TV off immediately after the Dancing with the Stars results show was done.

Re: Lost season 3 discussion....

I wonder what's in store for the crazy French lady. She was missing from the recap (shown but not discussed) and she's not on that poster. I guess she's never really been a regular but considering how thorough the recap was I was surprised she didn't get a mention.

I don't think I liked Henry doing the narration.

I like the recaps. It's kind of amazing how much stuff I can forget.

The French Woman has only been in about six episodes or so. I was more surprised that they didn't mention Boone or Shannon or Libby. I guess it's tough to fit nearly 50 episodes into 43 minutes though.

Re: Lost season 3 discussion....

The lack of things and people shown in the recap had my mind turning. How important were these people and events to the main story or the story at all. Dang that Lost, it gets me every time. Next Wednesday can't get here fast enough.

Re: Lost season 3 discussion....

I was more suprised by Rousseau's absense from the last finale. This type of sparse recurring character lives for dramatic entrances in major episodes...

Nor was there a mention of 4-toed feet (which has intrigued me).

It's funny, in the EW Lost insert this past week, there was a section by Stephen King who said that the 4-toed foot statue should never be brought up again. Personally I would like to know more about as well.

Re: Lost season 3 discussion....

The whole 4 toe statue could just be a red herring. Perhaps a civilization made it a long time ago and through bad planning only could put on 4 toes? I doubt that the 4 toed statue will ever have a role in the mythology of the island

Not according to the podcasts done by Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindeloff - it is meant to be the springboard for another mystery. 'Course after talking to King they may change their minds.

Re: Lost season 3 discussion....

Are there any reviews yet of the season premeire? Normally by this time critics have seen it.

Re: Lost season 3 discussion....

First of all, I wanted to say that people who are interested in the back story of the Hanso Foundation as well as the Dharma Initiative should check out the Lost experience revelations site here http://lostpedia.com/wiki/The_Lost_E...ce_revelations for more information. Some of it ties into the show, some just talks about the foundation, but regardless, I'm pretty sure that none of this will ever be disclosed on the show. Here's two of the videos that were put together that explain quite a bit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PPCCcXarkc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntRCiwmiFQQ

However, if it does spoil something that later appears on the show, don't blame me.

Secondly, I know this isn't really the place for it, but I was just rewatching season 1 and will have (re)completed season 2 before Wednesday, and I thought it was funny to see how Walt tells Hurley that "You owe me $20,000", to which Hurley's response was "You'll get it." Just one of those comments that you think was a character blowing the other off, and it turns out its telling more about them.

Re: Lost season 3 discussion....

Any civilization that can make a statue like that wouldn't make the mistake of missing a toe. It was made with 4 toes as it's model.

Re: Lost season 3 discussion....

someone just mentioned that in a podcast the producers said it was a springboard to something else. I didnt know that, so looks like it is.

Even if the civilization has the capability to make it, doesnt mean they will make it fit their reality. How many artists in the world have created renditions of humans that arent accurate in reality of the human form? Be it art, literature, movies, tv, etc.

Re: Lost season 3 discussion....

yea since they are "taking us off the island" some this year (I think Lindeloff said that) it would make sense about Desmond and the whole Penny Widmore connection... As far as Henry gale - he was too popular I think, and they are also doing alot with the "Others."

I, for one, and extremely excited for this wednesday!

By that logic, why trust any drawing/statue/artefact then?

Leaving out a toe is "art"? Aren't we reaching a bit there?

Lemme guess, "who knows how an unknown civilization defines art"?

Re: Lost season 3 discussion....

I'm not sure though, I kind of get the feeling that they won't really take us off the island that much, but people finding the island and probably going to it to search for survivors is just another excuse for some other boat/plane/whatever to crash and get some new people into the cast.

we'd better start looking for these giant headed people!

Re: Lost season 3 discussion....

Lots of animation and comic drawings use four fingers for people instead of five.

Simpsons, Futurama, Peanuts, etc.....

Re: Lost season 3 discussion....

Stephen King on the Big 4-toed Foot:
Quote:
Can you please get rid of teh great big stature with the great big foot? My heart sank when I saw that thing at the end of season 2; I thought, "oh God, now someone's gonna say 'The drums have stopped, it's too quiet.'"
Please, guys--we've got the creepy research project (the Dharma Initiative), the creepy Other with the buldging eyes (Henry Gale), the creepy ship beached in the jungle, the black smoke, the numbers, the computer...do we need a great big statue with a great big foot on top of all that? I guess I have one more question after all:
Can't Charlie find "Made in India" stamped on one of the toes?

You would be missing the point, just like Charlie did. I am more familiar with disproportionate representations of the human form than you will ever know. But you see, we're talking about a work whose creator went through the trouble of accurately representing these extremeties... only to leave out the last one (which BTW, the writers went out of their way to point out to us).

If you want to believe it is a mistake or artistic license similar in anyway to the gross distortions devoid of details illustrated above, be my guest.

If you live near Dallas...

I just learned that Maggie Grace will be appearing at the Dallas Comic Con at the end of October. If you do come, look for me appearing there as well! I do comics on the side.

http://www.scifiexpo.com

Can't wait until Wednesday. BTW, did anyon else Tivo the finale the other night only to find they switched programming to something else? I was looking forward to catching up before the premiere just to have the rug yanked out from under me. It sucked.

Re: Lost season 3 discussion....

Thanks, Jason, for the Stephen King quote.

So it was more of a "one too many mysteries" comment, rather than a "the four-toed idea is bad" problem.
