Star Trek TOS re-release? - Page 2

Re: Star Trek TOS re-release?

Tell me about it. I'd like the buy the entire Star Trek series, all of the shows, as thinpack releases and at a substantial drop in price. Since the thinkpacks are available in the UK they are bound to be released here by the time next summer rolls around.

All TV on DVD sets are always listed by Airdate order.

I don't think this is true for either Firefly or Crusade.

I am a thinPak fiend but I could not turn down getting all 7 seasons of DS9 for $250 delivered! And thinPaks don't affect me too much with Start Trek any way since I repackage them using Ric's incredible DVD covers.

Homicide: Life on the Street was also in production order instead of airdate order.

Sometimes DVD is a chance to correct the situation when the network seriously screwed with the ordering of the episodes.

EDIT: I was incorrect. Crusade was in airdate order, but JMS published his alternative "preferred order" which is how the episodes are listed on the Lurker's Guide.

Re: Star Trek TOS re-release?

Although that so-called "preferred order" by JMS on the Sci-Fi Channel was simply more of a concession to the bowdlerized story-flow and pacing originally screwed up by TNT, rather than true chronology (and which gave him the psychological satisfaction of utterly dumping "War Zone" right near the very tail-end of the run)...the official, canonical order was published in the pages of the Official Babylon 5 Magazine (in the Official Chronology), and represents the true, JMS-sanctioned causal sequence of the series's events:
  1. War Zone
  2. The Long Road
  3. Appearances and Other Deceits
  4. The Memory of War
  5. The Needs of Earth
  6. Racing the Night
  7. Visitors From Down the Street
  8. Each Night I Dream of Home
  9. The Path of Sorrows
  10. Patterns of the Soul
  11. Ruling From the Tomb
  12. The Well of Forever
  13. The Rules of the Game

The original TNT airing order (also on the DVDs):
  1. War Zone
  2. The Long Road
  3. The Well of Forever
  4. The Path of Sorrows
  5. Patterns of the Soul
  6. Ruling from the Tomb
  7. The Rules of the Game
  8. Appearances and Other Deceits
  9. Racing the Night
  10. The Memory of War
  11. The Needs of Earth
  12. Visitors From Down the Street
  13. Each Night I Dream of Home

Re: Star Trek TOS re-release?

Not DVD related per se but to any TOS fans this site should be a treat:

http://www.startrekhistory.com/restoration/index.html

Many behind the scenes photos plus several deleted scenes and you see how the Tholians were created!

There are a lot of shots I have never seen before.

Re: Star Trek TOS re-release?

Guys, I just made a great purchase and wanted to let you know about it. I bought the third season of the original Star Trek series for $57.71 at Columbia House (online). It was less than $69 with shipping/handling and tax. I've been holding off due to the high cost, but this is the best deal I've seen by far. I think they have the other seasons discounted too.

Thanks

Re: Star Trek TOS re-release?

I recently got all 3 seasons of the original series from my local retailer here in greece , the ones that come in the tricorder packaging , for just 38 euros a season ! Grand total that i paid 114 euros only ,when you convert that to dollars that comes to 146 dollars , divide that by 3 for eachseason , and ive got each star trek season for only 48 bucks! I bet no one can beat that price , of course i got lucky and it was a 1 week special only !

Re: Star Trek TOS re-release?

Tony, hello from Texas in the U.S. I might need to fly to Greece to buy TOS. I've been waiting for someone over here to drop the price for this series but the lowest I've seen TOS priced was at DDD during their mid-summer discount sale. If I remember the price was $256.00 for all 3 seasons. That's still too high for me but it's not far from a price that would get me to buy the series.

Re: Star Trek TOS re-release?

DDD has the complete TOS set listed for a price drop on Aug 22 to the new price of $137.31.

TNG seasons 6 and 7 for $51.43 on the same day. I didn't bother looking for DS9 or the other series.

Seems to be available now . It doesn't say anything about an August 22 release date.

Re: Star Trek TOS re-release?

Wow! And Amazon still has it for $303

Re: Star Trek TOS re-release?

Wow! I had sold a friend my original 2-ep per disc DVDs (I had about 25 of the titles), but hadn't pulled the trigger on the new season set DVDs. Looks like I'm going to do that now.

Re: Star Trek TOS re-release?

wait for the sale!

PRICE BREAK
Ships 08/22/06

You can buy it now for the cheaper price but it OFFICIALLY gets the new lower price on the 22nd and won't ship until then.

edit: never mind, I think it's in december. I wonder if the rumors that Paramount is prepping these for HDdvd release pans out...

The prices for these on Ebay will be sinking like a stone but some of the poor souls in auctions with bids now that are already higher then DDD... oh, the humanity.

Like this poor guy, $166+ $12.00 shipping with 5 days left!

Re: Star Trek TOS re-release?

I will pick these 3 up in December when DDD has their next 20% off sale. I am in no rush to buy it before then, although I certainly would understand why people would buy them ASAP. That is a big price drop, about time. Maybe there is a new release in the works ala the complete Twilight Zone collection ????

Barnes and Noble online price: $123.18...$110.86 if you have one of their member cards-free shipping, too.

Re: Star Trek TOS re-release?

WOW Great Prices Indeed!! I allready own S1,S2 of TOS.. Does anyone see S3 available individually at ddd ? I only see S1 listed by itself and then the bundle of all 3 sets.

Re: Star Trek TOS re-release?

What do you all think is the reason for the TOS price drop? Long overdue. I'm wondering if it's because there's a plan to re-release the series on HD.

Same reason they dropped prices on TNG and DS9 -- all the geeks who are willing to pay $90 per season have bought the sets and sales dropped. Now they're trying to get more casual fans to buy.

Re: Star Trek TOS re-release?

I am a pretty big Star Trek geek and even I wouldn't pay the original price. I had bought about 12 of the 2 disc sets and stopped THAT after awhile!
Anyone know more about the rumored HD release?

Re: Star Trek TOS re-release?

Interesting how there's rumours of Star Trek TOS being re-issued on HD format. It is a rumour I would bet, but it is within the realm of possibility. The current discs look pretty darn good an HDTV with an old non-upconvert player.

When it comes, it will reveal to a great degree, a lot of stuff they never anticipated we'd see. I'll leave it at that for your imagination.

Re: Star Trek TOS re-release?

This IS Paramount and if they think they can make more $ off Trek you know they will.

Re: Star Trek TOS re-release?

yoink!! Wow-I can't believe Barnes and Noble changed their price that quick! I ordered it at the price above (grand total-$131.80), and passed the info on here.
Here's the latest book I hear Band N is carrying "How To Loose Business In 48 Hours Or Less"-10% cheaper with a member's card.

Re: Star Trek TOS re-release?

I pre-ordered the new price (that's how DDD showed it...as a pre-order to be released Aug. 22), so I'll eagerly await them next week. I had the old 2-discers (about 2/3 of them anyway), but since I sold 'em off I haven't seen TOS in a while. It will be fun to watch it again after the break. My old discs certainly looked quite excellent on my HDTV, so I doubt I'll be jumping too quickly after a HD release of the show. Maybe years down the road. Maybe.
