Leave it to beaver season 3? - Page 29

I know it's a Tad early to mention this, but this coming October 4th I have a Suggestion for a Couple of Movies you can watch along with the First Episode of "Beaver". BOTH of these movies are about events that happened ON THE SAME DAY Leave it to Beaver had its premier.

OCTOBER SKY is a True Story about four boys who get involved with Amatuer Rocketry after Sputnik 1 is launched from the USSR.

QUIZ SHOW deals with the Scandel that erupted after a Contestant revealed that he was given a script that containing answers to the questions asked to him on the Game Show that he was on.

Gear mentioned in this thread:

Or maybe he knew approximately how many episodes were made and came to the same basic conclusion as a non-fractional average. Just because someone clarified it later to say it was exactly 39 does not mean Gary had that knowledge (or felt comfortable being that precise) at the time of making his statement.

This may be true, but Gary seems to be a devoted fan of the show and in my opinion devoted fans should know each season had 39 episodes. Gary's statement that the show "averaged" 39 episodes per season suggests that he is not aware of this fact.

Wow!  I go out of town for a few days and come back to see my name getting dragged through the proverbial mud because of a very minor, simple thing.

Let's clear this silliness up once and for all.  When I wrote about LITB "averaging" 39 episodes per season it was NOT because I was unaware there were exactly 39 episodes in each of the six seasons of the show, although I can see where someone might come to that conclusion.  The fact is I was well aware of the precise numbers per season.  The only reason I used the word "averaged" was due to the context of my comment.  I was talking about getting more bang for your buck, per season, because LITB show did not average merely 22 episodes, or 28, or 32, etc.

I was simply pointing out that the price for the mega set, when broken down by 6 (six seasons), was a great deal because the show did average 39 episodes per season.  Sure, I could have said it another way and if that caused someone's apple cart to be overturned I'm sorry.  But I didn't use "average" because I was unaware of the episode count in each season.  I'm a big enough fan of this series to have that basic knowledge.  Now, I hope that puts this issue to rest once and for all.  I also hope we can get back to talking about how great it's going to be to own the entire series in just a few months!!!

Gary "amazing how people can over-analyze simple statements and come to erroneous conclusions - but no hard feelings" O.

That's good to know Gary, thanks for the explanation. I'm also looking forward to the DVD set, hopefully Shout Factory will do it right.

I'm always willing to help set the record straight.

Amazon has pictures up that show the artwork for the individual seasons & bonus disc inside the big box.  Hopefully the bonus content is announced soon.
Amazon lists some bonus features:

* Its A Small World: The rare pilot episode that started it all!

* Forever The Beaver - The Cleavers Look Back: Cast members Jerry Mathers, Tony Dow and Barbara Billingsley as well as renowned collector and co-creator of The New Leave It To Beaver Brian Levant reflect on the quintessential American family sitcom.

* Ken Osmond And Frank Bank Remember: Cast members Ken Osmond and Frank Bank reunite to look back at their adventures on the set of Leave It To Beaver and beyond.

* The Drum Major Of The Toy Parade: A conversation with composer Dave Kahn.

... And More!

This bonus featured is listed on the Season 3 set.  I'd have to assume it would be included in the complete series set:

Quote:
* Audio interview with Jerry Mathers and Frank Bank from Shokus Internet Radios Stu's Show.
I'd like to see Jerry's singles included in the set.  I've only heard Wind-Up Toy, and it's silly, but it'd be good to have anyway.

Here's information about season 4 for those buying the individual season sets.

Leave It to Beaver - Separate Season 4 Set Now Scheduled from Shout! Factory

Look for the 6-DVD package to arrive in September

Posted by David Lambert

As you know, Shout! Factory's June 15th release of Leave It to Beaver - Season 3 is almost here, followed right afterward by their release on June 29th of the entire show's run with Leave It to Beaver - The Complete Series. What's next? Well, as we've mentioned in the past, Shout! is continuing with the individual season-set releases for those fans who prefer to purchase it that way (or simply need to, for budgeting reasons).

Today Amazon.com has revealed that Shout! will release Leave It to Beaver - Season 4 on DVD this coming September 14th. The 6-disc set will run 930 minutes, for $39.97 SRP. Bonus material will consist of an Audio Interview from Shokus Internet Radio's program "Stu's Show", featuring members of the Leave It To Beaver cast, found on the set as an alternate soundtrack to the first episode of the season. Here's the box art:

Well, we are only a few weeks away from the Season 3 set, and only about a month away from the Complete set (that's the one I'll be getting).  I'm excited about this set in a big way!  I'd say it's probably going to be the biggest and best release of 2010 in terms of Vintage TV.  Can't think of anything else that touches it right now.  Brian Ward over at Shout has said, for the 2nd time, that this set will have complete episodes.  He's also gone on record as saying the video quality is outstanding, so I'm just chomping at the bit to get my hands on this one!

Gary "the complete set is really the way to go because you get seasons 1 & 2 on single-sided discs, allowing you to throw out the Uni sets" O.

I preordered the Complete LITB set from Amazon back when it was at 139.99. It sounds like Shout is doing a great job on this and I couldn't be happier. LITB deserved way better treatment than what it got from Universal.

I totally agree about going with the complete set. Those double sided Universal discs have been nothing but trouble for me and my VHS tapes have edits.

I don't know about that. CBS/Paramount has a reputation of delivering really outstanding Lucy DVDs. I would imagine this year's (Lucy Show-Season 2) would be just as outstanding as the past ones.

Yeah, but it's just one season of The Lucy Show.

This is the whole damn Beaver series, done by a company with a slightly better track record than CBS/Paramount has had as of late.

Shane beat me to the punch.  While I'm sure the Lucy Show S2 will be very, very nice - the fact is it's only going to be a one season release whereas the LITB Shout release will be a COMPLETE set with all the seasons remastered and an entire disc of extras.  There's really no comparison in my mind.  Again, I'm as thrilled as anyone that we are getting the 2nd Season of The Lucy Show, but it can't compare to this upcoming LITB mega-set.

Gary "as Jeff said, we are counting down the days" O.

Geez, I've been in nostalgia overload lately.  This is such an awesome release..  Although I won't be buying it yet (gotta finish up something big first, probably Andy )...glad it's there for me.

Btw, there's a link for a bootleg set of the show in the google advertising at the top of the page here.  What the heck is that?  Should I get that instead?

The complete series is available at B&N.com for $113.99. Hard to say how long this will last since prices tend to fluctuate based on sale ranking. If you order it at the following link below you can get it for about $101 before tax. Unfortunately you cannot use coupons since it is a pre-order.

I signed up here just to express my enthusiasm for the upcoming Complete Series DVD Set. This is the Holy Grail of classic TV series for me.

And such a great price for the set too.  I've already pre-ordered my copy.  Can't wait!

For a difference of $10 or less I would have kept my Amazon Pre-Order due to their stellar customer service and usually better packaging approach. However, a savings of $31 and the fact that this should be a very solid container and less likely to result in shipping issues has made me jump ship on this particular item. Also, BN shipping tends to get out more quickly while Amazon's free shipping can be stalled a week before final processing.

Same here.  I was going to order thru "Family Video" but this price was less.  I thought I was going to wait for a "Deal of the day" or maybe till Christmas for this one but not now

Good question .  I'm going to pocket the savings for now but this was a treat, buying the complete set at this price.

Thanks much, Brian! I just placed my pre-order. I almost pulled the trigger on this over the weekend using a Borders 40% off coupon. I'm glad now I hesitated at the time. When I thought about it again and tried to use it, the coupon had already expired. Now, I get it an even better price, plus faster free shipping! So much for "those who snooze, lose..."

I've gotta lot of Andy to watch before this arrives.

Thanks for the great links Brian.  B&N should give you a kickback on this.

I nearly bought The Munsters complete with the savings...but I have to finish up something else.  I mean...I just have to.  Help...can't. Resist.

Which goes to show us that if we wait, someone will always beat the current price :).  Oh well, I went with B&N's price about $10 higher.  It's all good news for LITB fans though.

The B&N price minus tax (I'm in Texas) was about the same.  I got hit with a regional/state tax.
