Leave it to beaver season 3? - Page 12

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

Yes, I would agree. If the 50th anniversary of this landmark television series comes and goes, we have definite proof that at least one company has absolutely no regard for their own historical legacy.

My own crazy optimism still holds out hope that a complete series has been quietly in the works for an anniversary release.

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

Just a quick note to let forum viewers know that Jerry Mathers is on the Regis and Kelly show Monday morning, July 2, 2007. It would be cool if Regis would ask him about the DVD set.

Thanks for the heads-up, Jeff. Maybe we should all email the show.

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

I've posted part one of a retrospective on Leave it to Beaver.

youtube.com/watch?v=XoRMOyC4qsQ[/url]

I'll see if I can post the remaining parts. Has anyone seen this special before?

Interesting take on the DVD set at dvdtalk.com where in discussing the value of the DVD set when compared to syndication. Has anyone taken the time to compare the same episode on DVD contrasted with syndication? I would assume they cut out the beginning or ending of scenes or maybe the tags in some cases? Amazing that they can cut out four mintues or more from the show.

"If you want to see a slice of pure nostalgia in the original uncut form though, this boxed set will truly appeal to you. For the record, the initial set of shows had Hugh Beaumont narrating the opener and I don't believe there was any evidence of cuts, edits, or alterations with each episode lasting about 26 minutes long. A cursory check of syndicated versions ranged from a ghastly 21 minutes to 23 minutes but even there you can expect a variety of edits to make room for commercials. The only thing missing that I can recall would be the sponsor spots with the cast hawking stuff but perhaps later season sets will have those available."

10 posts before you can post a URL? Isn't that a bit excessive?? Didn't it used to be five?

C'mon Universal! I want to watch season 3 while eating a hunk a cake this fall!

So, get on the ball, before we give you the business!

LOL...that goes both ways. Get on the ball, Universal, or we won't give you the business ($$).

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

I guess we can officially write this series off now. Universal announced its October releases, and no Beaver. No 50th Anniversary set. No nothing!

One of the announcements is Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Season Three -- so that's come back from the dead. I guess there's always hope -- but not much for the Beav.

Universal has to think about licensing this one out to a company that isn't so profit oriented, if there is such a thing.

I'm going to eat a hunk of cake to cheer myself up after this setback.

Right on schedule, actually.

S1 - 10/04/05
S2 - 10/17/06
S3 - 10/09/07

If AHP can get a S3 release, why on Earth can't LITB--it's extremely puzzling.

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

Universal is a very odd company and while it looks grim, I don't think we should write it off just yet.

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

Universal = Larry Mondello. A likable goof who can't help but be late to class sometimes. But, just wait until their dad gets home from work. Universal is in for a long, well educated and quote-worthy lecture.

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

But, unfortunately, Larry's dad was always "out of town"...leaving milk-toast Mom (Dick Grayson's own Aunt Harriet) to mis-handle things.

I hope Universal's dad isn't out of town.

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

There are few episodes in sitcom history as enjoyable as the one where Larry ran away from home and hid out in the bathtub.

I love it when Ward is trying to console Mrs. Mondello and sees the suitcase out the window, being pulled up by a rope.

It should be a federal crime for a company NOT to release this series in its entirety.

I've been all but advocating the most extreme penalties the Constitution will allow for studios who release butchered TV shows on DVD. You can imagine what I think of studios who cut and run before a show is finished.

LOL at the Mondello comparison.

I miss watching the Beav. Sure hope they get them out eventually....

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

I've been out of town for the last 2 weeks on vacation, but arrived to find these latest posts in my email. What a shame that Universal is missing this incredible chance to capitalize on the 50th Anniversary. There's now no doubt whatsoever in my mind that this show is completely dead in the water. Unbelievable!

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

It is surprising, but evidently "Leave It to Beaver" just isn't as popular as I thought it was. Jerry Mathers was on Regis and said he has a very loyal fan base. I wish all four of them would write Universal about this!

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

I think there's alot of people of all ages (I'm not even 30) that enjoy watching Leave It To Beaver for free when they catch it on TV but there's significantly less people interested in spending money to own the episodes on DVD.

"Golly, mom, the way they fix ladies' hair nowadays....you can't tell if they've had their hair done, or just been standin' out in the wind." -- Wallace Cleaver; 1962

Why I thought of the above quote just now, I have no idea. The Cleaver Force is strong with this one, I guess (DVDs or no DVDs).

What a shame that so many people are content with TV Land's/syndicated edited, time compressed episodes of LITB. Come on Universal! Finish this series! There are entire scenes and dialog of LITB that we will NEVER get to see unless uncut versions come out on DVD! (Because of station edits and time compression.) Who can really be happy with chopped up episodes?

For the record, not me. I was just saying that I can see people of all ages still watching and enjoying LITB but not as many wanting to buy the show.

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

Reruns have been available practically for free for decades.

TV shows on DVD is a newborn baby in comparison, and the incentive to buy it has not been emphasized adequately by the Powers That Be.

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

I can't help but think what would happen if Criterion got into TV and put this out. Yeah, I know I'm dreaming, but considering what they could do and the popularity/history of this show...it would definitely be something.

Eh, a man can dream.

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

Criterion DID get into TV...on laserdisc. They released two episodes each of I Love Lucy and The Addams Family, as well as the Robert Altman/Showtime series Tanner 88. Then bubkes.

Can you dream what the price would be if Criterion released an entire season? They have $39.99 retail prices for a 2 hour movie.

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

Well you would be suprised at how many people do buy the sets! I am young at 22 years old but that has no difference in what shows people like. I am the biggest Lucy fan ever and love all of the TV LAND shows and own them all on DVD, you name it I have it! Leave IT To Beaver, I Love Lucy, The Andy Griffith Show, The Munsters, Gilligans Island and more all on DVD and I have seen more fans my age then older generation. The website I run on MY SPACE has all ages of fans that looove these shows but still I don't understand why they are not being made to DVD.

Lately as I own the DVD's of Leave It To Beaver I have also noticed that on TV Land the beggining seasons are being shown much more than the later seasons. I have seen a few like Wally buys a car and a few but not a while lot, I am wondering if there is some other reason why these seasons are not being released. There is no doubt in my mind what so ever that these are not making money and I know that they are. Even if they don't sell as well I know that no matter what they will not lose anything by making them! There are DVD's sets on the market right now that is not doing near as good as Leave It To Beaver.

Gilliagans Island is not a good seller and still they released all 3 seasons of that fairly quickly. The demand is high, look at all the pages on the home theater forum but yet Leave It To Beaver Season 3 is still not being released. Could there possibly be another reason?? I know of several people that have bought season 1-2 on DVD so it is not a bad selling DVD, no matter what it is likely that they should still sell. Another thing is that Leave It To Beaver is a little steeper in price than other DVD's being brought out and the picture remastering is not quite at good in my opinion either. This may have a effect on sells as well but still I have researched to every point and am clueless as to why the rest of the seasons are not being released. Someone from the Studios has something against it or is not thinking to release the set I have no clue but Leave It To Beaver is a high demand show, higher than what is given credit.

If Dinosaurs, Land Of The Lost and all of the other DVD sets are being released than why not the rest of Beaver?! I have contacted Universal on several occassions and with no luck, I have no doubt that the seasons will be released, but I don't think very soon or it would have been allready.. There has to be some reason for the delay but I am not sure. TV Land does not even air many of the season 3 episodes of Leave It To Beaver if any! I have seen much more of the season 1-2 episodes and a few of the later seasons allthough a select few that seem to rerun so maybe it is something that can't be fixed with the shows but it came be a number of reasons why they are not being made.

I see that Leave it To Beaver Season 1-2 is a decent high rank seller on Amazon so the low selling is definitely not a option is to why Universal is not bringing this set out, it has to be another reason! There are many other DVD's with lower ranks even for complete box sets so that is not an option. It is very sad that they are not bringing this DVD set out or completing them in a timely manner, I could understand if they had lost episodes or faults with some of the shows but if that is not a reason there is no excuse for the delay in releasing them. As you notice Sony and Paramount do good jobs of releasing DVD set in a timely manner but Universal does not.

Mama's Family Season 2 has yet to be released as well by Universal and it is actually a good rated set also. I think this has to do a lot with the extreme laziness of Universal. If Sony or Paramount had the license to these I know 100% that these would be released. There is a number of DVD sets by Universal that has yet to release or has been slow to release. I Love Lucy is been fast but it is not only a great seller but is run by Paramount. I Dream Of Jeannie and Bewitched have been very timely as well but ran by Sony. Leave it To Beaver is by Universal and this is something that should be directly brought to their attention. So contact Universal via email or phone, the email is listed by myself in a previous blog so contact them. If anything that will help if enough people contact them. It is obvious that Universal has complete control and they are doing all of there DVD's like this and it is sad!

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

To think shows like Wonder Years and WKRP can't get released unless the music is ripped out, here's this show that is ready and able to be released completely. I know there are other factors, but as a fan of all these shows it just sucks to sit and wait and get nothing.
