Geez, every time I see a post's been added to the thread I hope there's news. Always disappointed.

Actually, I saw it looking very grainy on a 15-inch screen -- very much like the picture you posted there!

Nope. Universal emailed me back a few months ago and officially stated they have no plans for any more LITB DVDs.

Wasn't the first two LITB seasons on NBC & the remainder of the series was seen on ABC? IF that's correct, then there could be a Rights issue with ABC or ABC's parent company which could explain why Universal hasn't/can't release Season 3 & later.

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

No, Steven. The first season of LITB was CBS. The last 5 seasons were ABC.

Ahhhhh that's right. It's NBC that owns the rights.

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

Since this series has probably been abandoned by Universal, does anyone know of a cable TV station that runs the show with the fewest amounts of cuts in it? I'd like to prepare to record the remaining episodes on DVD for posterity.

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

Let's see how far "The Real McCoys" gets compared to "Leave It to Beaver."

"Beaver" ran six seasons, 1957-63, first year on CBS, last five on ABC.

"The Real McCoys" ran those same six seasons, 1957-63, first five years on ABC, last year on CBS!

That final year, when "McCoys" moved to CBS, "Beaver," which had been running Saturdays, moved into its Thursday time slot.

So these shows are very much from the same era, and I see that Season Sets of "McCoys" are soon to begin. Will Grandpa and Luke do better than Wally and The Beav? Only time will tell, but I suspect, like the Cleaver clan, the McCoys will be "one and done," or, at best, "two and through."

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

What a disappointment that the rest of the seasons of LITB are not going to be made.. I sure hope this isn't true because I would like to purchase all of them but it is always a possibility I guess. This is somewhat suprising and I can't believe that Universal would just stop making the rest of the seasons, because many fans would like a complete set and not just the first two on DVD.

I guess we might have knew that this was coming because it has been so long since a release but all of the other 50-60's era shows have came out completely on box set but again a lof of them were from Paramount and Sony also! If anyone can find a number or email address I would appreciate addressing my feelings to Universal about wanting this entire set, it may not help but I would like to let them know anyway.

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

Very annoying. I'd planned to buy S1 and S2. But if the announcement is offcial I will save my money. IN fact, I'll be saving my money for all incomplete Universal TV releases.

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

Hold on, folks. There has been no official announcement about the status of "LEAVE IT TO BEAVER" one way or another. Many of us, myself included, do feel that Universal has put the show on the backburner at best, or totally abandoned it at worst. But let's be honest here. No studio is going to ever come out and say, "We will never, ever put out another dvd of _____." That's just not going to happen, even if among themselves they know there are no plans for a future release. The problem here is that Universal just isn't saying much at all when it comes to LITB. At least that's the info I'm hearing from guys that speak to Universal. I personally think the show is on the backburner and that the company has zero plans for any more releases, but I may be wrong (and trust me, no one wants me to be wrong about that more than I do myself). I think the only glimmer of hope we have is the upcoming 50th Anniversary celebration that TVLand is planning for October. They will be running a marathon at that time, and I guess there's an outside chance that Universal could put out Season 3 at that time to coincide with it. But if that marathon comes and goes and we don't see a release, I'd say the show is absolutely, positively dead in the water.

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

It would be a terrible shame if Universal abandoned this show as LITB is one series that I always felt actually improved as the series wore on. The last two seasons especially where we get to witness more teenage antics involving Eddie, Clarence and Wally are priceless.

My feelings are exactly the same, Michael. If ever there were a series that I would have liked to have seen released in reverse order, this would have been it. Don't take that to mean that I don't like the early seasons, because I do. It's just that given a choice, I honestly would have rather seen the sets released in reverse, because those last couple of seasons with Eddie and Lumpy were priceless. Plus there's more Cheryl Holdridge goodness in those last couple of seasons.

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

There's a scene in the Rutheford house with Mr. Rutheford yelling for his kid to come out of his room and down the stairs because he's in trouble. He's talking to Ward at intervals. It's really funny stuff. I've always been a fan of that character and actor, esp his Dick Van Dyke stuff.

Mr. Rutherford: Clarence?
Ward: {tells him more and more about what Lumpy's been up to}
Mr. Rutherford: Clarence? Come down here.
Ward: {more stuff}
Mr. Rutherford: Clarence, I want to see you right now!
Ward: {more stuff}
Mr. Rutherford: Lumpy!!! Get down here this instant!!!
*Lumpy lumbers down the stairs*

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

Oh, as a kid I used to hate Eddie with a passion. Now I can't stop laughing when he's on the screen. One of the best kid characters in TV history. Damn, this show needs DVD releases until completion!!

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

If they do come out with a release for season 3 it will be forever before the complete set is released to DVD and probably more than 6 years.. By this time they will be making these discs on blue ray I believe, is this correct?? I can't understand why LITB would be abandoned because it was always a favorite on TV Land, allthough Universal did not do as much with the features and bonueses on these sets as other shows have been done and that plus the fact that LITB sets are a little costly gives a good explanation. You can buy a lot of sets now for like $20-25 and LITB cost about $35 online a set and would cost about $70 for both. Anyway I still feel that the rest of the seasons should be continued like many of the other shows that are being made and I feel strongly that this show should NOT be forgotten.

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

Radioman ..... That scene with Fred yelling up the stairs at Clarence/"The Lump" is a funny one indeed. But your chronology is not quite correct. Fred had already completed his phone call to Ward by the time he started screaming for Lumpy to come downstairs. (Lumpy is never seen "lumbering" down the stairs either.)

The episode is Season 2's "The Lost Watch", and that ep. features another good "Yelling Up The Stairs" scene too...the one at the start of the program which has Ward screaming at the top of his lungs for Wally. (That scene, btw, is rarely seen, if ever, in the hacked-up, shortened syndicated prints of that ep., which makes it all the more special on the DVD.)

BTW, just check out those "baseball" scenes in the "Lost Watch" episode and take note of the incredibly-clear PQ on the DVD. Pristine in every way, without a hint of grain (just like all other "out-of-doors" scenes on the Beaver DVDs, which sparkle like brand-new).

It makes me yearn all the more for the final seasons of the series, which feature even more "outdoor" camerawork.

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

Thanks David. Just shows how long it's been. My brain "enhanced" things a bit.

I'm up and down with buying the first 2 seasons. It's a tough call. Chance is I'll grab them on down the line when there's a price cut. It's good to know thw quality is so good. I was pleased as punch with stuff like Gilligan's Island and most recently Flipper which may the best looking old show I own on DVD right now.

No offense, but when I get a reply from Universal telling me there are no plans of releasing any more LITB seasons, that to me tells me there are no plans of releasing any more LITB seasons. If you would like a personal "official" announcement for yourself, I invite you to email Universal.

I'm as disappointed as everyone else but maybe if enough people email Universal asking for Season 3, then maybe they'll consider it.

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

I'm not privy to your e-mail but I bet they said that they have "no plans at this time" but that doesn't mean that they do not plan on not releasing at some point. If they intended to announce it tomorrow, they would tell you today that they have no plans at this time.

That being said, I think since there's been more than a year between releases, Universal is not going to release any more sets.

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

My hopeful theory: When all the studios get all their current shows released and the ongoing release of new ones is a no-brainer (i.e., manufacturing and marketing in place so they can easily release shows right after the season ends), then they may turn their attention back to unfinished shows.

Until then use this link to send a request to Universal to continue the series. Ask your friends if you can borrow their email address to make subsequent requests.

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

Just to update the thread, received today in response to my question concerning more Beav:

"Dear Mr. XXXXXX,

Thank you for contacting Universal Studios Home Entertainment. We strive to provide the highest standard in product quality and customer care.

No release date has been announced for the next season of "Leave it to Beaver." A multitude of factors influence the timing and content of our DVD releases, and unfortunately, no further information is available as to when this title might become available on DVD.

For a listing of upcoming releases, please check our website periodically at: http://universalstudioshomeentertainment.com.

We hope that you will continue to enjoy Universal products

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

Well, I went ahead and sent in a response to Universal asking when they will release season 3. Hopefully they will get enough responses to know that it will be financially beneficial to them to release further sets.

I hope anyone who has been waiting to purchase the two sets that are currently out, will not wait any further. Take advantage of Deep Discounts current 20% off to get them at a great price!

Buy them, so Universal will release further sets.

It almost certainly isn't going to happen. We all need to just accept this and move on with our lives.

No, dang it! I'm not moving on. My life will forever be missing a vital piece of the puzzle that would have completed me.

Ok, it's not really that bad. But in all seriousness, I do think this is an absolute shame and I'm still thinking about curtailing my purchases on any future Universal releases (not that it will make a difference, but it's just on principle). My last hope will be the October releases. I know TVLand is planning a weekend tribute to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the show. If Universal doesn't give us a release to coincide with this, then it's truly, truly over. October is definitely our last chance. Of that I'm positive.

Re: Leave it to beaver season 3?

Well, OK, there's a tiny sliver of hope to hold onto. But I agree, if they don't "cash in," so to speak, on the 50th anniversary, then they just don't care about it at all.

"It ain't over till it's over" Yogi said it, so it's true I still think for some reason that this one's going to get a complete series release. I don't have a "sales/#'s/data" leg to stand on but you heard it here. My nickanme is "Scoop" so maybe that's the scoop.
