It has been reported that the BD-P1200 can't play it either but the BD-P1400 can for what that is worth. Of course there is no guarantee a firmware fix can become a reality, but it appears likely. My BD-P1000 won't play "Flyboys" so I hope the firmware fix handles that title for me as well. It is a Blockbuster online rental and I will hold it for a week or so to see if anything materializes.

Really? That's odd. I just watched "Fly Boys" this past weekend from NetFlix. It played fine.

Mine plays Flyboys as well. I did have some issues trying to spin Ghostrider but it finally did work, just took a long time to get going.

Re: Official Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-Ray player thread

Flyboys plays fine for me but I couldn't get "Stranger Than Fiction" to play.

I tried "Flyboys" about 6 tmies without getting it to start. A visual inspection of the disc didn't show any noticeable problems, guess I will try again.

I should have added "Stranger than Fiction" played fine for me.

Re: Official Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-Ray player thread

Has anyone had problems with THE REPLACEMENT KILLERS? I've tried 2 copies, and both play fine through the "Blu-ray is the Best Invention Since the Wheel" trailer, but when I start the movie, it freezes up every few seconds.

Also, is it coincidence that all of the movies mentioned (aside from FF 2) are Sony movies?

Re: Official Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-Ray player thread

I e-mailed Samsung about the problem the other day and they wrote back giving me a phone number to call. They said I could get on the list to get the firmware CD sent to me when it's available. Are they not going to make this downloadable?

Re: Official Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-Ray player thread

I never could get the first rental Flyboys to load. I reported it and got a second copy and it loads fine. I did download the latest firmware but I doubt that had anything to do with the issue.

Re: Official Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-Ray player thread

I just tried a brand new "Mr. Brooks" Blu-ray and after 20 minutes of frequent pauses and glitches, I took it out and put it in my PS3. It plays fine in the PS3. It is one of the newer Fox discs and I am sure problematic for the player but I have the most recent firmware just downloaded from the Samsung site.

Re: Official Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-Ray player thread

I swapped locations, moving the PS3 to where the BD-P1000 was and vice-versa. The "Mr. Brooks" Blu-ray plays fine in both players now, I don't get it and obviously wasn't able to identify the problem as it could have been a loose cable or odd incompatibility of some sort. I had gotten my extended warranty papers out for the BD-P1000 and was planning on calling tomorrow to see what I needed to do, but will hold off for now. With the latest firmware, the BD-P1000 loads the problem Fox discs faster than previously so things are pretty good with the player for me as far as I can tell. I have quite a number of discs to play in the next couple of weeks, I get 15 free with my PS3 purchase and still plan on using the Samsung primarily, although the PS3 is as good or better in all respects as far as I can tell.

Re: Official Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-Ray player thread

Hi I just picked the BD-P1000 and after updating the firmware. I can play DVDs, but I am not able to play Hellboy, Casino Royale and Superbad.

Any thoughts?

Re: Official Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-Ray player thread

With all the problems with that I am having with this player. I am considering picking up a PS3. Then I'll wait till Blu Ray's specs are finalized before picking up another player.

I have the same player as you with the 11-19-07 firmware update and can play all three of those BRDs. I watched the entired Superbad BRD and sampled every chapter on those other two releases without any problems. Perhaps, you have a bad player, can you play any BRD?

I am not able to play any BRDs. It seems that I have a bad player. Does any one know the service menu code?

Thanks

Re: Official Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-Ray player thread

I recently installed the 1.2 version firmware update because of a problem with the Fantastic Four Return of the Silver Surfer not playing. Now that disc plays but it seemed like the audio dropped about 15 times for just a second or so. When I played Ratatouille it was also dropping sound and the picture was actually freezing up. This one was so bad we actually had to stop the movie. I played a few SD discs afterwards and noticed no issues.

Can anyone fill me in on what the problem is? I have been thinking about upgrading to a newer version of a player but am wondering if these are going to be problems there as well. I got about 30 Blu Ray movies now so I am in too far to switch completely to HD DVD. I would be okay spending $500 or so on a new player if there are better ones out there. Any help would be appreciated.

I have the BD-P1000 and the problem disc and will check it out in a few days and let you know what I think. The PS3 can be purchased for about $400 and plays everything as far as I can tell and is easily upgradeable and much better than the Samsung player. If it works in your system with the design differences, I would recommend it wholeheartedly. It is being widely reported that the PS3 will be updated to Profile 2.0 and that makes it an even better choice in my opinion. I wish I had two PS3 consoles and no Samsung Blu-ray player now, although my BD-P1000 has been good, just not nearly as good as my PS3.

Anyone had good luck playing Sunshine on the BD-P1000? Disc loads and just spins a circular menu. I'm running the November firmware, BTW. Thanks.

Re: Official Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-Ray player thread

BTW, I've seen a similar topic over at AVS for the BD-P1200 and for the BD-P1000 at DVD Talk. Guess I'm waiting for a firmware fix or a new player upgrade before I get to watch this title. *sigh*

Re: Official Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-Ray player thread

Got my copy of Sunshine today. It takes what seems like forever to load and the menus are sluggish, but when I hit play, it played (though I haven't watched the whole thing yet).

One question: Since this thing apparently can't decode the advanced audio formats, which is generally the best audio option - the DTS-HD or Dolby Digital?

Re: Official Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-Ray player thread

Hadn't checked this thread for awhile. Guess I should've tried PLAY.

Samsung has new firmware on their download site for the BD-P1000. Updated my player earlier today and Sunshine played without a hitch. (Visually stunning, BTW.) I selected DTS, but I did not attempt an A/B test with the Dolby track.

I don't own some of the other 'problematic' titles so nothing else to add or test.

I just downloaded this update for the bd-p1000. I went to try and watch 3:10 to Yuma, and it has divided the screen into 4 parts. The image is shifted down and to the right, so that the bottom right part of the image is actually on the top left, and so on. I'm going to try and play some other films and see what happens.

Lovely!

On the positive side it did eliminate a slight flicker on the bottom row of pixels.

Doug

Edit: Well after playing a few other films it seems to have corrected itself. Also the Pirates films seem to load a bit faster.

Re: Official Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-Ray player thread

There is another firmware update (as of 3/6/08) on the Samsung F/W download site for the Blu-ray player - Samsung BD-P1000. This one is (Version 1.5).
Don't know how long its been there, because I just downloaded version 1.4 on the same site on February 4, 2008.

Re: Official Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-Ray player thread

I just loaded firmware 1.5 and am playing Sunshine now. Let me say, it is very slow loading with the new firmware, a good 2 minutes but the movie plays fine.

Re: Official Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-Ray player thread

Hey guys, I am in the process of loading 1.5. When I say process, I mean it has been processing for about 24 hours now. What the hell do I do? I'm afraid to pull the plug on it, and none of the other functions work.

Re: Official Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-Ray player thread

Chris - it sounds like your Samsung might be FUBAR. Look at the bright side, though. Even if it won't play movies anymore, you can still use it as a space heater! These things sure crank out some heat.

Good luck.

Re: Official Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-Ray player thread

My BD-P1000 isn't working worth a hoot now, discs either don't load or skip often when loaded. I have an extended warranty good for another 11 months so I am going to see what I can do with the warranty coverage. Firmware version 1.5 isn't working well for me. The good news is I also own the BD-P1200 and firmware version 2.3 has that player playing every Blu-ray disc I have tried and loading much faster than previously. If Samsung can fix my BD-P1000 with firmware at some future date, that would be great, but I am tired of waiting. It was a long time coming with the BD-P1200 so who knows at this point?
