I've installed 2.2 on my HD-A1, and my machine seems to work, now.

I've been able to play Children of Men (which would not work at all, before now). It stutters, so I'll still seek a replacement disk.

I've also been able to play the documentary on Dreamgirls, Disk 2, which wouldn't play before (with 2.0), and crashed my machine. I replaced the disk, and still it wouldn't play, but this newest firmware has fixed that problem.

Burned 2.2 onto a CD-RW and installed just a while ago with no problems. Will be checking a few discs later tonight.

Hi,

Does the new 2.2 fix the HDMI to DVI issue that I read about with the 2.1 fix?

I received the 2.1 disk in the mail the other day but have not loaded it as I use HDMI to DVI.

Can anyone confirm this issue has been fixed? I will get Toshiba to send me out another disk if that is the case.

Jorge,

Although there are sites where you can download an ISO-image, Toshibas own site is not one of them.

To download the update from Toshibas site, you only need to connect your player to the internet and start the upgrade. (If you haven't done so, you may need to set up the internet connection first, on your player, which is rather straightforward).

I tried, and I always get a "cannot find out server" error. I copied all the IP info from my XBOX 360 onto the HDA1, and it still has the error. Could Toshiba make it any more difficult to get the player to hookup via the internet???

Did you disconnect the 360 from your LAN? If they have the same IP-address....

In fact, it's rather easy, so there must be something rather trivial (and hence irritating ) wrong in your internet setup.

One thing I thought was a little odd with my LAN setup was that I still had to enter the DNS server even though I was using DHCP. I am used to the client pulling the DNS info from the DHCP server. The player seems to need it declared explicitly.

I just finally got the download!!! I had to connect the HDA1 directly to the cable modem; apparently it wouldn't work using the wireless router from my XBOX 360.

So it's updated and .... I don't know what the difference is from 2.0.

I would just caution upgraders if your player worked ok with 2.0 firmware. My did but 2.1 was a diaster causing freezes and jams that never happened before. I have just downloaded 2.2 and my player seems to have the same problem especially with combo discs.I am still checking it out.

Yea thats why Im asking. I didnt do 2.1 and have been very happy with my player.Not a single freeze, hiccup or anything. Its just that DVI darkness issue I usually fix by upping the brightness a bit.

I decided just today I put it off long enough and ordered the RAM electronics HD selector(only $45)
So if it doesnt fix the DVI I dont want to chance it and will just go component.

I uploaded the 2.2. I had a real scare at first...the player was slower than ever, and had an HDMI error message and wouldn't play any discs. In a panic, I uploaded the firmware again, and then unplugged the machine for 15 minutes. After doing this, my player works fine(I played parts of DIGITAL VIDEO ESSENTIALS and BATMAN BEGINS, and JURASSIC PARK 3 for SD DVD). In fact, the picture looks a little sharper than before, with better black levels, and the load time is a tad faster. Still, I would caution anyone before they use this new firmware. If your player ain't broke, don't try to fix it.

Well, Toshiba was true to their word when they said they would be mailing out official 2.2 FW discs near the end of May. Actually got 2 of them today. I already loaded it a couple of weeks ago with an ISO disc. Like Larry, I think I see a very slight sharper image.

Did the 2.2 discs arrive as a 'legacy' of your having registered your players months ago and being on past lists to receive upgrade discs, or did you contact Tosh more recently to specifically request 2.2?

Yes for me. I received 2.0 by calling them up back in the Fall. Was suprised to see 2.2 in the mail.
