All Beatles all the time.... solo works, rareities, remixes and so on ! Anybody with me ?....If Elvis can have his own station why not The Fab Four ?

Re: Sirius Needs A Beatles Station !!!

I may be in the minority but I do not care for the stations that only offer one group or musician. I would rather see quite a few other things then the ones we already have.

Re: Sirius Needs A Beatles Station !!!

I'd like to see perhaps channels devoted to great bands on a rotation, or on a daily basis. But 24/7? I do like that if I'm in a Stones/Elvis/Buffet mood, there's always something on, but the only one out of those I like is the Stones. Beatles are great, but another 24/7 channel is something I don't desire, I'd love to see them pick up a score and soundtrack channel something like XM's Cinemagic which from what I hear will be phased out.

Re: Sirius Needs A Beatles Station !!!

I enjoyed the Stones channel but they never reached deep into their album. They always kept playing the same familiar singles.

Re: Sirius Needs A Beatles Station !!!

I'd definitely love a Beatles channel... I'd imagine the royalties would be utterly insane for Sirius though.

Re: Sirius Needs A Beatles Station !!!

Put me down for a Beatles station; as well as a Springsteen. AOL has ad dedicated stations for years.

Re: Sirius Needs A Beatles Station !!!

If they just played the hits on a Beatles channel I'd be happy. I kind of feel about it the same way I do a concert. If I go see a major artist in concert, they better play the hits

The good thing is, the Beatles have tons of them, almost every album - and every song on many albums - is recognizable great stuff. I would love to see them take a station like the Rolling Stone Station and break it down in a 4-way rotation of artists. Ie, Monday: Beatles; Tuesday: Rolling Stones; Wednesday (X) Thursday (Y) and then back again.

Re: Sirius Needs A Beatles Station !!!

A Beatles channel would be awesome. I agree, if Elvis has a station of his own, The Beatles can too. They have tons of material to go through. The point about having to pay major royalties is true, though. I'm sure that the guy in charge of the beatles catalog wouldn't like this idea. If i'm not mistaken, he's resisted selling their songs as mp3s for fear of less $. I could be mistaken.

Re: Sirius Needs A Beatles Station !!!

you guys read my mind, I was thinking this today, all beatles, solo beatles live stuff ,cartoon and movie quotes, a beatles channel would be the best. sirius needs to make that happen.

Re: Sirius Needs A Beatles Station !!!

A Beatles channel would be cool, but I already have everything Beatles, so besides a random playlist on the road, there wouldn't be much benefit for me. Now the idea of a rotating 24/7 channel is interesting.

XM's going to phase out Cinemagic?? Damn - that's always been one of my favorite channels.

beatles? were they pauls band before wings?

Re: Sirius Needs A Beatles Station !!!

I love much of their music, but I would have to vote no on a year around Beatles channel.

I think a better idea would be a one week tribute on 60s Vibrations. Seven full days of mostly Beatles music, combined with some old interviews of the Fab Four, as well as interviews of others who played an important part in their legacy.

They were pretty much Paul's band from the Sgt. Pepper album until their breakup a few years later.

Another very good reason to just have a one week tribute, rather than a year around channel.

We're almost half way through November, and XM still has Cinemagic. Does anybody have an update on whether it's going to be phased out soon?

Good!

I'm a dual subscriber to both Sirius and XM, with a preference for Sirius. But Cinemagic is one of the channels that keeps me as an XM subscriber.

Dude...I tend to forget about the Beatles. Don't know why. Then i hear them and go on a kick for a while. That is a great idea. The Beatles would be FAAAAAAAr better than the who. All they currently play is a bunch of concerts from the last five years or so, when IMO the who is long past their prime.
Maybe they will rotate bands on that channel once a year or every six months. That would be a good idea.

Re: Sirius Needs A Beatles Station !!!

I think to much of one artist, no matter how much you love the band, is a bad idea. I like the Vault, channel 16, for the variety, and rare songs you can occasionally hear. When Pink Floyd Pulse DVD first came out, they played nothing but Floyd music for a week. PF is by far my favorite artist, bar none. I was so burnt out, hearing only one artist after the week was out, even though it was my favorite artist. I needed variety, and I still do.

I've said it before, what we should be able to tune in to is a complete Rock & Roll station. They should play, the Beatles, then play a Pearl Jam track. Play Eric Clapton, then play Collective Soul, play Jeff Beck, then play Beck, etc. As a listener, I shouldn't have to hear only old hits, and not current music mixed in. They should also have a music library so large, that it could take a week before you hear a repeat.

How long can/will anyone just tune into one artist? At best, maybe a few days, a week maybe? I'm fortunate because I can and do listen to Sirius in the morning, when we wake up, (Howard Stern), then in the car, on the way to work. Then I plug my Sporster in the cradle, and I listen all day while at work. Of course I listen on the drive home too.

I wish Sirius would break the mold, of separation of oldies, classic and new Rock music, and just give it all to us as one giant channel...

Re: Sirius Needs A Beatles Station !!!

These channels are partially sponsored by the bands and labels that are featured. The Who are touring now, as were the Stones, and Pink Floyd basically bought a week on The Vault when Pulse came out. Given that, I doubt very much you will see a Beatles channel, since as far as I know they have no new projects and haven't toured much since the late 60's.

PS - I know this doesn't explain the Elvis channel, but who really can explain it (and I personally enjoy Elvis)?

Re: Sirius Needs A Beatles Station !!!

Interesting take Jeff. I never considered the mighty dollar was deciding the play list for each channel. I just figured the big wigs in the company, made all the decisions.

Is yours an assumption, or based on fact?

Howard Stern mentioned it on his show. It was right around the time he had an interview scheduled with Pete Townsend and Robin ruined it by bringing up the child porn scandal while Pete was listening on hold. Howard said that the interview was made possible because Sirius was featuring The Who on one of it's channels as part of their world tour.

Re: Sirius Needs A Beatles Station !!!

I believe there is an ongoing sponsership deal with Sirius and Graceland hence the 24 hour Elvis channel.

Myself, I like the the idea of an artist channel but only for a shorter time. I am a HUGE Stones fan (and yes, they did go deep into their albums) but after a year of it...well, I was ready for a change. I think it would make more sense for Sirius if they dedicated a channel for "artist of month" at 30 days at a time.

Imagine:

The Beatles
The Grateful Dead
Frank Zappa
Bob Dylan
The Band
Aerosmith
Bruce Springsteen

Anybody with a large body of work would be great in my opinion.

A friend of mine who has Sirius and I were discussing this yesterday. Elvis has a station, the Rolling Stones have a station and the Beatles don't? Like someone said, it's probably about money in the form of royalties or licensing.

The Beatles are the most popular entertainment act of all time. In spite of the fact that they broke up in 1970, they were the number on selling artists of the 1980s, the number one selling artists of the 1990s and the number one selling artists of the 2000s.  How can that not merit having their own station. They "officially: released appx. 215 recordings, but as someone else already pointed out hundreds of alternate takes, rare live recordings, and demo cuts exist today.

I don't think that playing only the hits would satisfy most Beatles fans, and that is primarily who would be tuning in. I am obviously a big fan and associate with a lot of other fans. Personally, I prefer to hear the stuff that you don't hear that often. The Beatles had so many great album tracks that would have been number ones or at least top tens for other bands. They just could put everything that they recorded out as a single. It has already been mentioned that so much of their material, even the ones that weren't hits is so recognizable. Many people probably don't realize it, but I Saw Her Standing There, one of their most recognizable and requested songs was the B side of I Want to Hold Your Hand in America.

Anyroad, for the child that posted, "The Beatles Suck" that's his opinion and he's entitled to it. As he matures, he will see how immature and silly posts like that are. The bottom line, in my humble opinion is that there are millions of Beatles fans of all ages around the globe who would love and all Beatles station. For those of you who are not fans, or who believe that the Beatles suck, simply tune in another station. Isn't that What Sirius is all about?

The thing is that there seems to be an unlimited amount of space for specialty channels? Just because there would be a 24/7 all Beatles channel doesn't mean that there couldn't be any of the other channels that people are suggesting.

If you don't want to listen to the Beatles or Elvis to the Rolling Stones all day, all you need to do is to change the channel. Go to your all 60s channel or whatever else you want to go to.

With the ongoing popularity of the Beatles, there would be plenty of people listening to an all Beatles all the time channel at every hour of the day.
