Report all forum software problems. Part I - Page 4

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

Youve done a mans job, sirs.* (in getting HTF back up)
Anyway
1.I dont see any "first new posts" in threads
2.even though I have my settings for a week of posts,
I still only get about 20 on the first page-I used to get 40-50 easly before having to turn a page...
3. Yes it would be nice to edit a threads title as we all sometimes muck them up-hence we dont have to nag you mods, or look illit--llirtra-, oh well, dumb.

Their subscription systems are the same - it emails the new post since a user's last visit but no further until you visit the site again. It has the same language in the emails of "There may be other replies also, but you will not receive any more notifications until you visit the forum again."
Hey, it seems like this has been fixed! The language is gone from the emails and I've been getting all the posts. I'm curious what you had to change Parker. And thanks!

The "first new post" function is now the blue, down-pointing icon next to the thread title. And the number of posts per page can be changed in the User Control Panel under the options.

EDIT: The hiding of the language was actually Gmail's doing, but I did get multiple notifications.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

I mentioned this earlier, but I think it got overlooked because of a merged thread...

moving the paging from the right to the left.

Paging is the snippet that says...

Page x of y < 1 2 3 4 >

It would reduce unneeded mouse movement during quick browsing because right now the thread links are all on the left side of the page, but paging is on the right side of the page.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

If possible I would like to have the 'View Top 30 Posts' link back. Unless I'm looking for something specific I always use it to get an overview of what's going on here at HTF.

Thanks for all the hard work you guys do in keeping HTF up and running, it's much appreciated

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

Threads are disappearing again (you open them up and there's nothing inside)...

Examples:

http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htf/...d.php?t=233086
http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htf/...d.php?t=233523
http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htf/...d.php?t=233494

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

Steve, I just ran into the same thing, but I did notice that if I click the "Post Reply" button, the thread shows up below the area you enter your response.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

I had this happen twice today in 2 different threads in the Speakers section. I click on the thread title, and the thread would seem to load. But there was nothing there.

OK, I see some other people have mentioned this.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

Just came from "Murder On The Orient Express" thread in HT Software http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htf/...d.php?t=186987 It said there were 12 replies, but none are visible.

Also the thread "HTF REVIEW: Capote" http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htf/...d.php?t=232232 . The first page with the review is missing.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

It happened in this thread right after I edited my post to it:

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

Make it this thread:

http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htf/...d.php?t=233529

I'm not going to edit the previous post in case that what the cause of breaking the thread.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

Yeah. I'm seeing the same thing. Lots of threads are empty.

Not all. But some.

EDIT** I am using Firefox 1.5.0.2

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

What happened to the option of only viewing the threads since your last visit?

It is the "New Posts" link in the blue bar near the top of the page.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

I clicked on some threads in firefox and they were blank as others have reported, but I bring up IE and the threads are fine.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

I'm getting empty posts, too. My web browser is Safari 2.03. However, I can read the posts in the source code, and it seems to work with lynx, and Internet Explorer 5.2 for mac .

It also does not appear to work with Firefox 1.0. Hmm. Buggy stylesheets, perhaps?

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

Looking at the source code for the page, I think I see the problem. There is a comment tag in the code that isn't closed.

IE just assumes you forgot the close comment tag and sticks it in. Firefox parses the HTML exactly as it is constructed.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

It happened in a thread I posted in immediately after I edited my post, so I wonder if using the edit function causes a bad snippet to be inserted somewhere.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

They're blank in my Netscape 7 & 8, but ok in IE 6.

p.s. I'm running WinXP Pro.

p.s.s. This thread is fine in Netscape

It's Broken Again

Anytime I click on a thread I'm either taken to a different thread, or something showing no posts at all. ARGH!

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

"Lee, the only problem we have with posts counts is the
handful of members that abused it.

Members were posting frivolous messages just so they
could increase their post count and brag about it."

That's cool Ron. I understand if the abuse on post count has been bad.

There is one thing I might add is the addition of "quote buttons" to the quick reply box that add QUOTE and /QUOTE with text. Steve Hoffman's board uses the same software and a similar design if you want an example.

Overall I think you guys have done a great job and I really like the new look. Thanks again for all the great work behind the scenes.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

Yup. I'm using Firefox 1.5.0.2.

I tried to simply edit my post above to reflect that...but it wouldn't let me.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

Weird. Double post.

AND, I find out it DID let me edit that earlier post. I just saw it now. When I tried to do it, it kept timing out.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

I'm also getting blank threads very frequently, which is pretty frustrating. I'm using Firefox 1.5.0.2. Hope this issue is worked out soon.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

I think this either has something to do with the embedded ad boxes, or Travis Hedger's signature.

In Firefox, this thread:

http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htf/...d.php?t=233075

is missing the popcorn machines ad. It just shows an empty box. But Will_B's message is intact, as is the rest of the thread including the HDTV ad.

In Opera, the popcorn machine ad, Will_B's post, and the Free HDTV ad is intact, as is the rest of the thread.

In Safari, the popcorn ad is gone, Will_B's post is gone, the free HDTV ad is gone, and Travis Hedger's post is partially scrogged starting in his signature.

It sounds like some web browsers are more forgiving of others in the HTML department, and that there is something in the HTML causing this that is either fixable in 1) the ads or 2) Travis' signature.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

Guys,

The blank posts that are coming up today are being
brough to the attention of Parker.

They are happening to me as well when using Firefox,
but appear normally when using IE.

Hopefully Parker will be able to find a fix for this shortly.

Problems viewing posts on Firefox

When I click on a thread on Firefox, the page is completely empty and cannot read any posts. I don't have this problem with IE. Anyone have this problem?

Re: Problems viewing posts of Firefox

Me too.
To read Richard's post just now I had to go to his profile and click on his posts. Of course, that only gave me the first line....
This does not happen in all forums, Testy come up just fine.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

I noticed in the Hardware for sale section that I can see the thread titles, but when I click on the threads, no message comes up. Everything is just blank..
