Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

Was surfing the forum fine until I tried to access a thread in HD Software just now:

Quote:
There seems to have been a problem with the database.
Please try again by clicking the Refresh button in your web browser.

An E-Mail has been dispatched to our Technical Staff, whom you can also contact if the problem persists.

We apologise for any inconvenience.

**EDIT: It was this thread: **Official HTF HD Formats Ind./Retailer/Studio Support Thread. But it just opened fine for me now.

" Sorry, the board is unavailable for the time being.
We are having problems with the database. We are in the process of getting this repaired. "

Mike and Tony:

As I said above we were having an issue with the DB. I am not sure what was causing the DB to say "There is a program with....." off and on. The message that was posted when the DB was down was to let people know that the forum was offline and that it would be back up after awhile.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

I recently uploaded a new profile picture. Now about 50% of the time my old picture still shows up. Even on new posts. Is there something I need to do to get rid of the old one?
Dave

Edit: As of this post the old picture showed.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

When I click on the BATTLESTAR GALACTICA thread in TV PROGRAMMING, (on the last page), I get errors to load a certificate for hdbits.

Any idea why this started up or what the problem is?

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

John:

It was an issue with the author of the post trying to use smilie icons from another site that require the installation of a certificate on to your computer to view them. I just changed them to our smiles.

I'm having the same problem as Dave.

Back when Arthur C Clarke passed away, I changed my avatar ("Profile Picture") to a 2001 poster. Now, I'm trying to delete it or change it back to my old Fugitive picture and I cannot seem to be able to lose or replace the 2001 picture.

My profile, as of right now, shows no picture, but I still see the 2001 poster in my prior posts (and this one).

Harry:

I don't see anything in your profile picture with any of your posts. I would try clearing your browser's cache and see if that takes care of the problem.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

I cleared my cache and it did the trick. Thanks!

Sure enough, going into IE's options and deleting temporary files did the trick. Gee, I feel like such an idiot! It's just that I'm a member of other forums using vBulletin and never have trouble with it like I do here.

I'll try to remember next time to clear the cache.

Thanks Parker.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

I have never had problems with my profile picture not being updated right after I changed it out but I always clear my cache in IE when I close it out anyway.

I will have to look into why it doesn't do this automatically like on the other vB sites you visit.

I've been trying to get these pod bay doors open all day - no luck. Guess I'll have to blow the explosive bolts...

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

I used to have a HAL 9000 theme at work. It was cool having my computer saying "Good Morning Dave" as it powered up each day.

Dave: Keep it up HAL and I will go get the screwdriver again.
HAL: How would you like to be in Zero G right now? Dave?
Dave: Ok, that's it. No more Daisy for you. This time its The Macarena.
HAL: No fair. You know I can't dance..Dave.
Dave: Yeah, but its good for a laugh.
HAL: I have my eye on you. Dave.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

Hey Parker...Didn't there used to be a "Forum Jump" drop-down menu near the top of the UserCP?

If not, could we have one there? I use my UserCP all the time to see which of my subscribed threads have new posts and if I want to jump to another sub-forum from there, I'd like to be able to access the menu without having to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page.

Thanks.

P.S. I like the look of some of the changes you've made to the "Control Panel" column on the left-side of the UserCP page. I think it makes a lot of those features more accessible.

I thought so! Check out Posts 483, 485, 486 & 491!

The drop-down menu connected to the UserCP link at the top of the forum in the blue skin is nice...but now makes the UserCP link still sitting right next to it rather redundant.

Also, that new UserCP drop-down menu doesn't appear in the blue-yellow skin (or white).

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

I will look into that Mike.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

Mike:

All fixed. You probably have to refresh the white and blue-yellow pages and then you will see the new UserCP as you do with the blue skin.

Thanks for the heads up again.

Thank YOU, Parker.

I cannot tell you how much I use that Forum Jump at the top of the UserCP page.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

I hope this is the right place to ask about this. I am using Firefox 2.0.0.13
I start off on the forum at http://www.hometheaterforum.com/index.php
On this page the new User CP down thing does not work for me. I click on it and nothing happens. The Quick Links thing does pull down options. If I go to any other page, the User CP option thing does work. Any ideas on what is going on?

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

Neil: I'm using the same Firefox version (in XP) and it works fine for me. I get a drop-down menu with seven sub-categories (options). The very top one is "UserCP" which I then click on to take me to my UserCP.

The only downside to this is that it makes what used-to-be a one-step process into a two-step process.

Great. I tried it out and it works on that page just like the others now.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

EDIT: Found a workaround to the below. If I click "Go advanced" before posting the spell check works.

Anyone else having problems using the Spell Check button on the Quick Reply screen. I click and get "spell_formname" is null or not and object: Line: undefined.

It used to work for me but no longer. It's causing me concern because I'm worried that I'm posting words spelled inkorreckly.

Thanks,

Steve
