Report all forum software problems. Part I - Page 14

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

Are page loads still not working along with the back button? What ad appears to be slowing things down? Is it at the top of the page or the bottom?

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

Sorry I can't be more helpful Packy, but my Back button on Safari almost always takes me back to the previous page I'd visited before HTF. No matter how much I surf around HTF, it usually doesn't take me back to the previous HTF page I've been to, it takes me back to the last non-HTF page. Really odd behavior which I don't think is tied to an ad because I've gone multiple pages deep into HTF with different ads, and Back still takes me out of HTF.

EDIT to add:
What's really odd is after I posted (using quick post) when I hit back it takes me back to the previous HTF page properly, but then hitting back again takes me out of HTF (and I know I've navigated 8-9 pages around HTF).

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

Same here with the Back button issue. PowerBook G4, Safari 3.0.3. No matter how deep I go into HTF, one click of the back button kicks me back to wherever I was before entering HTF. Even the Safari History menu will only show one HTF page in the history, no matter how many pages deep I go. Weird.

I really don't know what could be doing this. If there is a particular thing that you notice that isn't loading let me know.

i cant tell what isnt loading.

what i can tell is that the blue bar fully finishes in the address bar, indicating the page is done loading.
but the tab indicating were you are has a spinny thing that never stops spinning.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

I have been having issues the last few days with the site's pages not loading. All I get is the top "HTF" graphic and one ad in the top right. Nothing else on the page displays. It says "done" in the bottom left corner of the browser. This is happening both at work and at home. If I hit stop, then reload, I can get the page to fully display sometimes.

This problem is not all the time. It sometimes (like now) seems to work ok. But then when traffic is high (lunchtime, primetime) it gets real bad.

It seems like one of the image links is not working and the browser is waiting for something before it displays.

I am using IE 7.

Also, for the record, I get the same sort of thing happening at another site. It is the Weather Underground site. WeatherUnderground

Maybe they are using one of the same ad sites. It might help you figure out which one is is causing the problem if you compare it to yours. Both sites are working fine right now, but I have seen the issue on both sites. In fact, on both that site and this site it happens right after the top 2 images are displayed.

Pages still appear to be not loading completely in Safari. I don't get the little spinny thing in the upper right corner, but to the left of the URL bar, where there's usually a circular refresh icon, it's still showing an "X," even though the progress bar shows that the page is fully loaded.

I've got the same page up in Safari and in Firefox, and they look very different. In Safari, I'm not seeing a Best Buy banner at the very top of the page (above the HTF logo), nor the Tivo or "filmstrip" ad on the right, nor the "Visit Our Sponsors" section which is currently showing two Blu-ray ads. As far as I can tell, the rest of the page looks the same.

Hope that helps....!

Oops, there's one more that isn't displaying on the Safari side: The "Sponsored Link" for an Optoma HD projector that's just under Parker's messasge.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

the spinny thing is in the actual "tab" that is near the top of the page and just below the address bar.

Ah, I don't have tabs turned on, hence why I didn't see it. Thanks for elaborating.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

I'm still having problems on my intel iMac as well. OS X 10.4.10; back button takes me right out of the forum to the previous site I visited. Safari and Firefox both exhibit the problem.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

Holy Cow, the HTF suddenly looks different!

However, this problem with the back button while using Safari seems to still be fighting the forum software and Safari. Interesting to read a user is also having the issue with Firefox. I tried using a PC with IE for grins and it was okay.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

I'm using multiple Macs running 10.4.10 on each, using both Firefox and Safari and have encountered none of these problems.

And I dig the facelift.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

Great new look! Unfortunately still having the same issues with OSX 10.4.10 and Safari 3.0.3 as I previously described. One thing I've noticed that might help Packy diagnose: my "reload" button never activates. The page is no longer loading (the status bar is complete). On Safari, as a page is loading the address bar acts as the status bar with blue going from left to right to indicate the % of page loaded. So even though the blue has gone away (indicating page completely loaded), the Stop Loading button doesn't turn into the Reload icon. Clicking on it does nothing. I have to hit CMD+R to reload.

Not sure if that little bit of info will help or not...

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

Cameron, your set up must be different if you're not having this issue.

I just noticed more recently that the problem has extended to beyond the HTF. It happens sporatically on other sites, but not consistantly like it does on the HTF.

I am running Mac OS 10.4.8 and Safari 2.0.4(419.3) on a G5. On my Powerbook, I'm on OS 10.4.6 and the same verison of Safari, it also happens there. I did reset Safari on the G5 and it didn't make a difference.

Re: the safari loading issues which I am still seeing like everyone else. For some reason...the following page here at the HTF loads correctly every time and the loading indicator in the safari tab stops when this page is done.

http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htf/...d.php?t=262606

Maybe if the code or ads of this page can be compared to the other pages...we can determine what is different about it and why it seems to be loading correctly and stopping when all the other pages are not.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

Brian, I'm afraid that page doesn't work for me, I still can't use the back button.

I have gone into the HTF several pages on several occasions, then clicked and held down the Back button so it will show a list of all the pages I had last visited and the HTF pages don't show there! I have not found any obvious or common factors to cause this.

Well, it's obvious that is just one, very-high-quality thread page!

In the Upload Images page, the page reads

Max image dimention allowed

Perhaps you meant "dimensions"?

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

This is the error I get when I load the home page on Safari:

I think this is causing the problem.

Quick Links drop-down menu comes up short

When I click on "Quick Links" on the home page after I log in, the drop-down menu gets cut off, not showing all entries. I also scrolled to make the link appear at the top of my browser; the menu gets cut off at the same place. The problem is that it seems to be "hidden" by the news "Flash" below it.

The other thing I notice is that the Quick Links entries on the home page's drop-down menu are different from Quick Links drop-down menus on other pages.
  • On the working drop-down menus, there are 14 lines to get to "Miscellaneous."
  • On the home page's drop-down menu, there are only 9 lines.
I don't know if that was intentional or part of a problem.

I am using Firefox 2.0.0.7.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

I will look at this over the weekend Keith.

As far as Safari goes I am not sure what would be causing that problem.

Thanks for the heads up.

Quick Links drop-down menu

Thank you, Parker! You and the rest of the HTF staffers do a great job, as always!

However, all the links under "User Control Panel" give me a "404 Not Found" error.

All the links under "Miscellaneous" (except "Links Page") also give me a "404 Not Found" error.

Thanks again!

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

Parker-

Since you can't seem to find the problem for us Safari users, I am beginning to believe it's a creeping type of problem with Safari.

The loading problem has been happening at other sites more. Nothing really consistant. And I do found 3 times if I leave a page loaded from the HTF for a while, 10 to 20 minutes, the back button will work and the reload icon appears, but not consistantly with any page. But recently, more often then not, both the forward and back button remain greyed out and the reload button never appears. It's strange.

FWIW, I have only encountered the "back" button problem with HTF (running Safari 3.0.3). Also, Safari works fine with other forums (which may or may not be running software similar to HTF).
