Report all forum software problems. Part I - Page 2

You might want to have a redirect for folks like me who have [had] bookmarks that lead directly into a certain forum. I would have had no idea the forum was back up except that, on a whim, I visited the root. My old bookmarks still say: "We are having major problems with the database server. We are working hard to get this resolved. We appreciate your patience in this matter while we work had to fix the problems."

BANNER CODE HERE error after every post.

I agree with Don. Try clearing all your cookies in your directory of for the browser you are using. Look for any from hometheaterforum.com and delete them. Then sign back in and check the remember me option next to your log in.

John,

I can certainly verify that the ignore list is not ported over.

That's not a big deal. However, I do want to be able to do favorites, and not favorite threads, but favorite forums. I could do that on the old user control panel, but can't figure out how to do it with the new one. Hopefully there will be a way.

edit: never mind, I figured it out.

If you haven't added me back to the ignore list, care to explain how we set up "Favorites" mode in the new version?

I too wanted to whine about how the page numbers on long threads just keep going to the right, and not wrapping around or doing something else (ellipses or other such things).

Kudos on an excellent job though guys, I can imagine you've had your hands full for the last few days.
Thanks guys, I'll see what happens now.
Nope. Doesn't seem to be working... I'll give it a shot when I get home to see if I'm having the same troubles. (I'm at my family's right now)

Ron and Parker have specifically asked in the past that members NOT do this as they would prefer everyone always enter through the homepage. I assume it has to do with counting "hits" on HTF, setting advertising rates, and all that sort of thing.

LOVE the upgrade, BTW. Much cleaner than the format of the last attempted upgrade.

there is no home portal page right now just the index.

besides going from that or the index is the long way of going to specific forums.

much easier to just click on the main page a few times a day or so.
Just a note for the guys requesting changes to things like the number of posts on a page, linear display, formatting options and email notification (this one got me) these are configurable in your control panel.
yes but still only shows 20 topics per forum not te 40 i have it set to.
You are correct. It sets the number of posts per page, not the number of topics shown in a forum. While I'm at it, I see no way to subscribe to a thread without using advanced mode and posting a response.

Now, I'll leave Parker alone.
use the thread tools drop down at the top of every thread to subscribe.

thats what i was referring to when i mentioned thayt you now have to go to several different pages to subscribe to a thread.

old forum, go to bottom and click, "sub to topic".

The forums do not come up in Mozilla firefox at all, just get a blank page, I hate using microsoft exploder, any idea why?
Is the intellitext advertising thing new and intended? I ask mostly because of that past script that snuck in somehow and was introducing the pop-up pages.

I noticed it in the Silent Hill quick review thread in the movies section just now.

I didn't set up favorites per se, but it amounts to the same thing (at least for me). You first go to the forum you want, go to the "forum tools" tab, and click on subscribe to this forum. Then, in your user control panel, only those subscribed forums show up.

That may not be what you're after, but it's what I wanted.
Ugh. I had a thought that was it. We went through that with the last time at this issue and there was a better solution. That does not give favorites mode. It's more of a "all or none" approach.

no quick edit yet, though?

On the other hand, you can [I think! haven't tried it] turn off email notifications, which makes it more like Favourites than Subscription.

OOh! In Edit mode I get smilies!
From the User CP>>Edit Options, the last option lets you select the Standard or Enhanced Editor. This will also give you emoticons and other controls when you do a full Post Reply.

Guys, if you aren't just particularly partial to the default icons, is there any way we could have the light bulb and dot icons back? That just seems like an easier way to tell if there's something new and if it's a thread I posted in than the current graphics. If it's too integrated, disregard.
Figured out my issue. All of my old posts look as though they were posted by "imported.Chris" while I can't edit them or do anything with them (which is OK, I almost never need to do that). I wondered for a while if my password/stuff would work. Turns out, it all still does!

Sure there will be hiccups, but it looks to me like you guys are working your tails off and it looks good for your efforts

Where's the old front page?

I had a bookmark for the forum's front page, the one with the list of new reviews on the right and news, and on the left, the latest studio announcements and the latest forum posts. Is that page gone and where do we find the list of the latest reviews, ect? Does anyone have a link to that poage or is it history?
Question! is it possible to change one's default font/size? There used to be an option, but no more [or at least I don't find it]. Also I think my Profile stuff has mostly disappeard — birthdate is there, but the text is gone.

Suggestion: Page x of y location

I know you are busy getting everything set up, and this is a minor suggestion, but could you left align the paging at the top and bottom of the forum and thread screens to the left rather than the right?

Right align seems to be a default of vBulletin 3 and I really find it annoying, because the thread links are all on the left side of the screen, so when browsing, you have to constantly move the mouse between the left and right side of the screen to enter threads or change pages.
Thank you for taking back off those text ads that appear on random words in posts. If there was anything that is more of a putoff than popups, it would be websites with those.
I am getting a lot of these vbulletin msgs when attempting to view different threads:

Unable to add cookies, header already sent.

Thread Starter
Guys,

Thanks for all the feedback thus far.

Here's the current situation...

Parker essentially worked 3 days straight with little sleep
just to get this forum back up. The last time we did this
upgrade it was pre-planned and he had weeks to accomplish
the transfer. After our database went corrupt last Monday,
he basically had to do the same job in an impossible timeframe.

This is why you don't see our main portal page (it has to be
rewritten for this software) or other features you would like.

This is also why there are browser compatibility problems as well.

All of these things you are reporting are issues that Parker
needs to work on. However, as you all know, we have day jobs
too, so these problems may take a week or more to fix.

At the moment one of our big concerns is the error messages
being reported in the above post. I'll see if Parker can look at
that today after he gets some needed rest.

Trying to access my HD-DVD player thread in the Hi-Def area I get this message when I click on that thread.

Parker, PM me your addy, I'll ship ya out a pound or two of Starbucks

In all seriousness, thanks for all your hard work.

FWIW, I am running Mac OS 10.4.6 and the latest Safari and have not gotten any of those error messages.

One thing that would be nice eventually is to get an email for each post in a subscribed thread, instead of just the first and then needing to return to the forum. I personally prefer it the way it used to be.

In the last attempt at the software upgrade a few of us requested this to return. I have a feeling it's not a software feature anymore, since other forums like AVS and DVDTalk have the same kind of email notification.
