Report all forum software problems. Part I - Page 9

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

I'm not sure if moderator warnings are supposed to be visible to persons other than the the person who was warned off, but they are. Bug, or scarlet letter? You decide.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

Starting today, I've seen a "warning" label beside a poster's name. It said "Warnings: 1. Warning level: 5." Is that something that will be permanently attached to our names if we require a reprimand from a mod?

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

Every time I do a Quick Reply, it sends me to a page saying that I can only make one post every 30 seconds with a countdown timer. I finally figured out it's because the software is automatically trying to submit everything twice, as my post is already on the thread when this happens.

Using Firefox 1.07 on Windows 2000.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

I don't get the option to "paste" when I right click in the reply box, only page controls ("back", "reload", "bookmark this link", etc.). Seems it's treating the reply as a page and not text. This is with either IE or Firefox in XP Pro.

Jack:

I was able to copy and paste in IE, Firefox and Opera just fine.

Hey Parker!

It's been two months since the upgrade. Seems like two years, right?!

Congratulations on a terrific job. I can only imagine how you must have dreaded the idea after the earlier problems.

Any chance of seeing any of the following requests?:

--A notation for each post which would designate its place in the thread (eg: "Post #79 of 534").

--A return of the "blushing" smilie? :b (I wonder if there's a blushing banana?)

--A forum jump at the top of each thread page? Currently the forum jumps are located at the top AND bottom of the forum index pages...but only at the bottom of the thread pages themselves.

--and, probably the most useful of my list...a way to include all the sub-forums in the forum jumps? Currently, only those sub-forums we have not excluded as "favorites" on our custom index page are available in the pull-down forum jumps. This, for all practical matter excludes us from visiting those forum areas which we don't select as "favorites". (I wonder what's going on in those places?! )

Thanks.

Any suggestions? I've never had this happen in other forums. I even woofed my cookies and it didn't help.

When I want to quote, I have to hit the "quote" button on that post and delete what I don't want, I can't just copy it into my reply.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

Jack you can also use Ctrl + V on your keyboard to paste, that's what I've been doing for the past 10 years, you get used to it. Ctrl + C to copy.

Keyboard shortcuts, what they're there for.

That works for me, Steve...thanks. Still can't figure why it's happening, though.

Does the "Mark all posts as read" option now exist anywhere? It used to be on the main page.

Crap. Was just surfing around the HTF and realized that the Forum jump had an increased amaount of items in it and thought "Cool! Parker figured out the hack or work-around!"

Sadly, though, my "excluded forums" in my Edit Options section all just disappeared instead. This has happened to me a couple of times now. Maybe I'll just keep everything "included" until I hear there's some way around the problem.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

Is it possible to see html in subscribed emails? If someone quotes a lot in a post it makes for some weird reading.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

Seem to be missing posts. I was looking at a thread about HDMI 1.3 specifications being confused with Toshiba's 1.4 update. There was a quote taken from a post that, apparently, is there but I cannot see. I also was able to see several posts in the "end is near for Blu-ray/HD DVD war", but those posts have also disappeared. What would cause a problem like that? I do not have an active ignore list.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

Please disregard my previous request. It appears the poster used a quote box to post a non-sequitur statement that made little sense. There was no post from which the quotation was derived. Thanks.

1. --A notation for each post which would designate its place in the thread (eg: "Post #79 of 534").

I haven't been able to get this done yet. I am still working on it.

2. --A return of the "blushing" smilie? :b (I wonder if there's a blushing banana?)

Already done.

3. --A forum jump at the top of each thread page? Currently the forum jumps are located at the top AND bottom of the forum index pages...but only at the bottom of the thread pages themselves.

Done.

Hmm...I will have to check into this. So are you saying when I add a new forum area you have to go back to the control panel and include them from there for them to show up in the forumjump and they aren't automatically added to your list?

Nope. I'm saying that when I go to my User CP, click on Edit Options and at the very bottom "exclude" certain forums from appearing on my custom Index page...those same excluded forums do NOT appear in my forum jump menus. I like the convenience of having my index page contain only the forums that I frequent...but if they are excluded also from the forum jump menus it almost becomes like those parts of the forum cease to exist for me because there's no way to get there.

For example, if I exclude the "Polls Area" from my Index page, I also don't see 'Polls Area" on my forum jump...and therefore have NO practical way to get there unless I go back and "unexclude" it.

Thanks for your continued efforts into making this place run so smoothly. The new forum jumps at the top of the thread pages are VERY cool.

I'm glad this guy is back, too. There's too many times when I've got to use it!

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

I've noticed people having a name under their name today, so I looked in my UCP and found that it's now a "required field." Will there be a point where old members will have to enter this--perhaps as a requirement for changing profile information? Is the board going to change to allow screen names? If not--and I kind of like it the way it is--I don't see the point of having your name in two places.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

Last weekend all my settings under "Forums To Exclude From View" were lost, so when I clicked on new posts, it showed the new posts from all forums. I went into the user control panel and reentered my forum exclusions, and while everything looks fine again on the main page (i.e. only the forums I want are displayed), clicking on "new posts" still shows new posts from all forums, even the excluded ones. The same happens with the "today's posts" search. Any ideas?

Parker: Don't know if this is significant in your view of things...but this has happened a few times to me, too...including once around the same time period as described by Christian. The forums I select to be excluded from view on my own index page suddenly reappear and I have to go back and re-enter them. It has probably happened 4 or 5 times since you instituted the feature.

Same thing has happened to me, but with the added wrinkle that now if I try to set up the exclusion list again, I get nothing in either the "new posts" or main forum views. I had all but four or five forums hidden, which worked up until last week sometime, but now it seems to be all or nothing. Anyone else noticed this?

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

Just thought I'd update the issue I'm having, since it looks like there were some software changes (nice preview update BTW). Still noticing that if I try to exclude forums, the new posts link shows all messages, and the main forum view is empty. Am I the only one seing this behaviour? I'm running Firefox 1.5.0.5.

strange problem with my PM inbox

i logged into my account only to see that i have 65535 new pm's in my inbox!
i know this is incorrect. when i click on my inbox it shows the correct number of messages (4) but it still shows me as having 65000+ new messages no matter what i do. i've tried logging out and back in several times and it's still the same.

anyone else have this problem?

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

I was surprised to see Real Player pop up a couple weeks ago. My preference would be not to have to deal with Real Player unless I choose to do so. Doesn't look like anyone else cares so I don't anticipate any change. I want the fewest programs in my start-up as possible.

With all due respect, I simply close Real Player as soon as I see it.

If there is any other way to avoid Real Player I would be most appreciative if someone would tell me how.

Thanks

Arthur: What are you talking about? When does RealPlayer pop up for you?

I obviously can't speak for anyone else...but I have never had any RealPlayer "incidents" here on the HTF. Maybe your issue is related to something else. That might be why you've seen noone else report problems.

no real player popups for me

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!

it sounds like Arthurs Real player has taken control over some kind of MIME file. How about uninstalling Real? I've never had Real Player pop-ups, but I also don't have it installed on my systems either.
