Report all forum software problems. Part I

Thread Starter
Per our announcement, please post all problems you are
experiencing in this thread. Parker will be checking this area
daily to address all reports.
I am still unable to access my user control panel
post #3 of 737
I can access my user CP but the ignore list is blank and there is no "favorites" listing.
spoiler code doesn't seem to be working - v important!!!
There's no "My Posts" button.

Also, are smilies working?
One quick thing - not a problem, but a recommendation. The Thread "Display Mode" should default to Linear Mode instead of Threaded Mode. That is how it used to be on the old software. For people not familiar with the new VBB software, at first glance, Threaded Mode makes it difficult to view replies to topic. Make sense?

On a side note, thanks so much for all the hard work on getting things up and running Parker, Ron and everyone else involved. I know it had to be a royal pain doing something of this magnitude unexpectedly. We (the members) truly appreciate all your efforts!

Glad to see you're back. The format is a little different and will take some getting used to, but it's nowhere near as unappealing as the last time the forum was remodeled for a couple of days!
I second everything Zack said, Default = Linear, & great work guys.

Also want to thank Zack, as I had no idea you could change the display mode or how.

Links to old HTF posts are out of date now. Is upgrading those going to be part of the upgrade as well--though I can understand that it wouldn't be a very high priority, with lots of other stuff being more important to take care of first--or should we go ahead and update them ourselves?

Hey Parker! I know appearances can be deceiving, but things from our perspective are looking like they are going pretty smoothly so far! I hope, to some extent, they are going well for you.

I echo the sentiment about wanting a "favorite thread" option so we don't need to scroll through the listing of every sub-forum on our index page.

And, it appears that, as of now, when you post to a thread...the only way to navigate back to the sub-forum you are in is to scroll all the way back to the top of the page to click on the link which tells you where you are. There used to be a parallel link at the bottom of the thread page.

The drop-down menu is at the bottom of the page if you want to navigate to another sub-forum...but if you post in software/high-def and want to go back to software/high-def you have to climb all the way back to the top of the page and click on software/high-def.

Congratulations, dude.

EDIT**: Well, a little experimentation shows that the drop-down menu at the bottom of the page WILL now allow you to select software/high-def and click "GO" and take you back to the sub-forum. That didn't used to work that way with the old software. "Never mind."

Looks like you also need some kind of a "wrap around" feature for threads which have a large number of pages. Multiple pages are listed on a single horizontal line. Threads with lots of pages cause the horizontal scrolling bars to kick in and kinda screw up the look of the page.

I assume the 'subscribed threads' are history?

Glad you're back and hope everything goes smoothly getting back to normal.

It's great to see HTF back up and running!

A few things I noticed on the new software:

1. Before I logged in, all posts in each thread were listed individually instead of each thread containing multiple posts per page. This may be the same thing that Zack R is talking about:
Quote:
The Thread "Display Mode" should default to Linear Mode instead of Threaded Mode.
This was not an issue after I logged in.

2. The html tag icons (i.e. Bold, Italics, Underline, etc.) and smile icons do not appear in the reply / post section.

3. '\' marks have appeared in several users' signature lines (check-out George Kaplan's and Mike Frezon's for examples on this page).

Again, it's great to see HTF back up and running. Best of luck over the coming days and weeks as you guys continue working on the software upgrade and implementation. Your hard work and efforts are truly appreciated!

As far as the favorites and ignore lists are concerned, I have a feeling they may not have made it over in the change. I was looking at my stored PMs, and they are there, but they are blank. My unsolicited opinion is that those are not very crucial issues. People may just have to redo their ignore and favorites lists and not bother Parker with it.

I'm actually surprised to see the forum up this quickly. I can only imagine how difficult it must have been.

You probably intend to set special permission to access the reviewer's area, which hasn't been done as I write this.

Here's one. When you use the quick reply, it appears to automatically subscribe you to the thread. All previous subscriptions appear to have been lost. Probably nothing to do about that.

The problem, John, is that there is no way that I can find right now to compile a Favorites list. I'm not asking for my old one back. It would only take a second to make up a new one...if the function was there.

Also, Parker, when replying to posts in threads, none of the text formatting features seem to be present.

EDIT**: ooops. I see Jeff Meyers beat me to that one a couple of posts above:

Can we increase the number of threads/page? I think it was around 30, now it's around 20.

any way to remove forum descriptions?

is there any way to remove the text descriptions from the forums? they might help out a new user, but anyone who has been here for longer than a couple weeks doesn't need a paragraph of information about each forum before it's clicked on. if there's an option somewhere that it can be turned off, please let me know. thanks much.

The "First New Post" feature on each thread's listing on their respective index pages was useful too. It would take you right to the first new post in that thread since your last visit to the forum.

EDIT** Again...never mind. I found it. It's that small little blue arrow located just to the left of the thread title on the index pages.

Old mind...new software...

The "Forum Jump" drop-down menu would also be nice to have back at the top of each page, too.
Definitely wrapping page numbers is a must. This affects not only long threads, such as the current HTF Anime Discussion, but also the Forum pages themselves. Also it was nice having Forum Jump drop-downs at the top and bottom of the pages, both; and the "preview" function [hovering over a link to a thread and getting a brief summary] would be appreciated.

Thanks for taking suggestions.
I was about to post the same thing Christopher. Wish i had a spell check. Or do i, and i just dont know how to use it? Between my typing skill, and spelling i NEED it.
Private Messages seems to be wrong. All PMs are blank, and it says I have 65529 unread messages. Also I have some PMs from "imported_Parker Clack".

Overall though, congrats on getting the forum up and running again. I'm sure we'll all benefit from using the new advanced features in the latest version of vBulletin.
And while we're at it, is there a way to have a page that displays only the forums we use?
Oh, and it seems to have logged me out without any reason.

now i have to click subscribe and then go to another page asking me if i want to subscribe.

"imported Carlo Medina"

shows up in my previous posts. Am I the only one who sees this (because none of the other poster's names say it, and I assume they're all imported too)?

Thanks for getting us back online though (and yes, it does ask me to log in multiple times as well)!

Can't Stay Logged In...

For some reason the forum doesn't recognize my details and prompts me to log in upon each visit, despite me clicking the "remember me" box.

Hope this is just a small glitch that'll get smoothed over.

I think this is the first time in about 2 years that I've been logged off the forum. :}

Try clearing your cookies maybe? I've been able to stay logged in, but I did need login to this version of the software.
