I had to laugh at the part of the article when McG said "This asshole who did Charlie's Angels, and what kind of cock calls himself McG?'" Maybe he's been reading this thread... or any other one on the internet.

Not one for gossip but this has got be heard to be believed. Not being there, I don't know if it was warranted or not but let's hope that Bale puts that much energy into the role.

Bale has no right to treat anyone like that. It's obvious that Bale controls that set and McG is worthless as a director. Can't control his actor and leaves his DP hanging. Even if the DP was being stupid and ruining shots Bale can't say that, it's McG's job to say it.

Christ what a jerk. I'd like Bale to do a film with James Cameron directing, THAT would be a fun set to be on lol.

Yeah, screaming at some lunatic that got arrested (but not charged) for verbal abuse against his mom and sister is the best way to handle the situation. A sensible person would let him vent. It doesn't undercut McG's authority, it just lets Bale make a total ass of himself in front of a couple hundred people on set and very few of them are going to be understanding of his POV in the situation.

On the surface Bale looks like an asshole for doing what he did; however, we weren't there so we have no idea of all the circumstances that occurred.

For all I know all those people could have already put in a twelve hour day and that scene may have been the subject of numerous takes. Bale may have been getting frustrated with the number of takes. The one where he blew up might have been the keeper and it gets ruined by the guy walking into the shot because he was not paying attention. Bale blows his stack. He is only human and I'm sure that every one has had a bad day at work and has been pissed off.

It also sounds like it wasn't the first time that the guy he was yelling at had ruined a shot by carelessly walking into the frame. Once is one thing but the man is a DP. You would think a DP would know better.

It doesn't undercut McG? He or an assistant is calling for a minute break to let cooler heads prevail but Bale is refusing and demanding they re-do the scene immediately. Yeah, McG is in REAL control there.

The only one I hear screaming is Bale. It's not like everyone else gets to go home early and he has to stay late and work. No, pretty sure they all have to stay.

Even if the DP sucks and can't do his job, why wasn't he fired and replaced? Look at Aliens; Cameron fired his DP because he refused to meet Cameron eye to eye. Cameron was still fresh and not fully established. Gotta take control the director and producer have to(Yoda speak) and not let the star dominate. That's when bad things usually happen.

What Bale says the DP did is unprofessional, and if it's happened more than a couple times I could see why he wouldn't be hired on future films. I have a friend who is all of 5.0 feet tall. I know if a guy like Bale talked to him like Bale was talking to that DP my friend would have cold-cocked him before he got the second "fuck" out of his mouth. This friend of mine really dislikes guys who pick on women or animals.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not defending the guy for doing what he did. There are better ways of handling situations like that. I'm just saying that we don't have all the details on the occurences that lead up to a major outburst like that.

I've always gotten the vibe that Bale is a major prick from his interviews and I think this clip pretty much confirms it. Don't get me wrong, he's a helluva actor and something like this won't prevent me from seeing Terminator or the next Batman flick, but someone really needs to put him in his place.....ASAP.

I'm a strong supporter of going off be it with cuss words or a middle finger. I personally can't blame anyone for getting "pissed" but there's a line you cross that's just downright wrong. Belittling someone like this in front of people just makes me cringe in embarrassment the DP must have been going through. He certainly took the high road by not reacting at all but then again, had Bale not been a movie star then I'm sure things would have gone differently. In fact, I've known some downright crazy nuts who are now in prison but I don't think they would have gone that far. It's obvious this guy is nuts so yeah, perhaps someone putting him in his place would help.

I wouldn't have mind had Bale thrown a fit, threw a few f-bombs and then went back to work. Going on and on and on like he did was just wrong.

No, McG wasn't in control but that's because Bale was so out of control. What's he going to do? Punch him in the face so he calms down. Screaming at him would just escalate the situation. I really doubt anyone walked off that set that day thinking "Gee, McG is such a pussy", they were all thinking "Batman is a real dick."

EDIT: Like others have said, I don't know the circumstances of the situation (everybody has bad days and who knows what else was going on before that) and Bale is a phenomenal actor but he seems like a real jerk.

I like how he wants to redo the scene immediately and then goes on for like another 2 minutes.

I can see why Bale was angry. I don't know if he's a full blown method actor but he obviously goes to very great lengths for the roles he plays. It is obvious he takes his acting very seriously. And it must be a somewhat difficult job in the sense that much of the time he's probably acting around stuff that hasn't even been put in the film yet. And then the DP ruins the take. And like has been said, it could have been a paticularly grueling day. But yes, that tirade does certainly seem excessive. And there is a point in that audio where there is some noise that makes it sound like it almost got physical.

And as far as controlling him. With some people, you just have to let them rant and blow it off or it will just escalate the situation.

And these blowups on the set like this don't seem to be uncommon either. There was some video that made the rounds a little while back with David O. Russell flipping out on Lily Tomlin on a set. Maybe after they finally got the take, Bale apologized to the DP and everything turned out fine. Watch, on the DVD special features, Bale will be praising the DP for what a great job he did.
