I hate those Nascar ads where they show digital cars jumping buildings, going through loop-de-loops like on a rollercoaster track and battle it out....you know how an 'entertaining' Nascar would look like.

Where's the disclaimer "Nascar isn't this exciting" on that commercial?

They all irritate me! But I was wondering if some lawyer is going to outlaw the mute button. It is the commercials that pay for the TV viewing. So if I mute the commercials or change the channel, am I stealing?

I record everything I watch (except for sporting events) so my exposure to commercials are minimal (if the ad looks interesting then I'll view it). What I hate are ads I see online and worst two offenders are the pop-ups and unders and what I do is keep a small word pad memo of products to avoid.

I'll click a link of a sponsor on a website I visit and do attempt to buy their product to help support sites I visit but there is a point where if you resort to force to make me have to take action to stop seeing your ad then I'm going to do everything in my ability to make certain that business never gets any part of my money. Just because we talk about an ad doesn't mean it's good news or that we'll buy the product, in fact we may even convince others not to buy it as well. I hope these companies realise that if they did simple traditional ads I might go to their business and participate but if you come across shocking then if I get the message the wrong way I won't ever go there. I hope others will take similar stands but don't expect it since some of these businesses are still around.

The lying in commercials is really starting to get on my nerves.

Have you seen the Mercedes SUV commercials? One where the SUV is in a wind tunnel and they are talking about how the suspension lowers at high speeds for more aerodynamics and then the back of the wind tunnel blows out....

At the bottom of the screen (in small type) it says "Exaggeration"

And then there's the one where they take the Kayak out of the back of the SUV...I didn't get to read what the small text said, but I'm sure it was the same "Exaggeration".


Why are they allowing advertisers to lie??? I realize they've been lying for years, but with all the FCC cracking down that's been going on, why can't they do something about the lying in advertising??

(i haven't read this whole thread but i did search it for the word 'pocket' and it came up empty so

there's a commercial right now (in Canada at least) for a financial institution/insurance co that shows its employees following people around with their hands in the peoples' pockets, with the song 'hands in my pocket' playing. so people are ust walking around in the street like normal, but these accuontants are following them with their hands in said pockets.
weirds me out everytime i see it

--okay just saw it again - it's a commercial for capitalone

One that i'm just plain sick of seeing, is the one where the guy is sitting the restaraunt with the two cavemen and he's apologizing for "offending" them in the last commercial. The guy orders his food but the one caveman tells the waiter "No thanks, i've lost my appetite." giving the other guy a look as if to say "Yeah that's right, it's because of you that i'm not hungry!"

I just want to smack that pompous caveman asshole, let bygones be bygones you hairy bastard!

I like most the Geico ads, though I am sick of that particular caveman ad. It's always been my least favorite of the three caveman ads for just the reason you mentioned. Unless Geico dude has a time machine, best he can do is apologize.

OMG! I laughed so hard I couldn't even read it aloud. I usually like that commercial and now I am going to be hysterical every time I see it thinking, let bygones be bygones you hairy bastard! Good one.

I also have to agree about the vonage commercials. I had to mute it every time they came on, that music is so annoying! I would never consider using their service, I hate them!

Another thing, I am jumping on the bandwagon to end all commercials dealing with personal hygine of the nether regions...some of thos commercials are really sick. Like, "Sometimes I feel sticky down there..."That is so friggin gross I can't believe they thought would sell anything. Or the commercial that used to be on showing all the nice butts shaking then all of a sudden it is about using adult sized baby wipes to make sure your ass is clean and I am feeling so dirty, like YU uck!

I am sure I will think of more soon.

Agree 100%. They don't make me physically ill, just completely piss me off. I guess I won't be seeing A Scanner Darkly.

I love the Geico caveman ads. The new talking gekko ads are horrible.

I hate the KY warming liquid commercials. Besides the TMI aspect, they feature an actress that I've seen in dozens of other unrelated commercials. Is the pool of talent that small in the commercial world?

I also can't stand those PSP commercials with the ethnic stereotypes (Mexican fuzzballs, black squirrels, etc.).

Oh, don't get me started on the smugness of Comcast ads.

That turtle commercial pisses me off because I've always hated Internet Cable's 'trickery'. They'll say something like "Comcast's Cable internet is 5X faster than DSL!" and then they'll put the tiny disclaimer "when compared to 512k DSL"

OUR customers? You don't work for AOL, you're Julia Roberts for Christ sake.

Greg, it's not that I don't find the turtles cute, they are, but it's the male turtles voice that irritates me, he makes it a point to say "This is my wife...", all I can think about is two turtles at the alter, one wearing a tux and the other a wedding gown and it freaks me out a little.

Comcast's smugness did bother me in the past, especially with those 5x claims etc, but now that I'm finally running full 8Mb/down and 756Kb/up I'm a happy camper.

I'm just happy to see that none of my local commercials that I've personally made have shown up in this thread....because I know they would. If it wasn't for personal dignity, I would list them myself. If you are in the Denver area, you can guess.

Kristian, I could not agree more. I think ANYONE who perpetuates commercials with TMI should be punished under TMI statutes, and forced to use a gallon of tobasco for a " not so gently warming personal lubricant" as punishment.

There's one out now that doesn't annoy me, but it does make me feel a little sick. It's the Mercury insurance ad where the truck in front of the guy loses its load, and the guy behind him can do nothing to avoid a bouncing TV. The other day, a construction truck lost its load of rock and a rock the size of a grapefruit rolled into the side of my car, leaving a nice little gash. There were so many 18-wheelers around that I never got a look at the offending truck (and thus, didn't get someone to whom I could send a bill), but it was pretty much the same kind of chaos as in the commercial, and the same sense of "well, here comes some flying debris, and there's nothing I can do about it."
