I tried to get caught up with the thread, but I missed your earlier thread. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who finds it disturbing.

Also, I generally like the Geico ads, but this recent batch with the gekko saying things that don't make sense are not for me.

"Of course they want free pie and chips! It's pie. With chips. For free!"

The Geico gekko has a Brit accent, right? "Pie and Chips" would be meat pie and french fries, a popular lunch selection in less trendy eating establishments in old Blighty. No, I've never been there but watch a lot of BBC America (which runs about the worst commercials on TV).

It wasn't that I didn't know what they were, it's just that I'm hearing the thing talking, and it isn't making much sense. The message he's trying to impart about Geico insurance gets lost in the bizarre writing and delivery.

Speaking of this whole talking GEICO gecko. My uncles girlfriend was like "Did you see the Gecko is now talking!!!" - correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't he originally talk? way back when they first introduced him?

Remember the commercial where he's in the shower and the phone rings and he runs out to answer it...that was one of the first Gecko commercials and he talked. If I recall, it was a different voice.

I don't know if this was mentioned or not. The latest ProActive acne commercials are a complete ripoff of the old Progressive Auto Insurance commercials. (This is radio, btw.) A girl calls and talks to a CS rep and asks for "the catch". "There's no catch, ma'am." Blah blah blah, and at the end, "oh, I did forget one thing" "I knew it, a catch!" "No, it's free." Or something to that effect. Progressive had the exact same commercial a couple of months ago. Or it may have been Geico, I don't know. All I know is that I find plagarism in commercials highly annoying. Especially when it is so blatant.

The University of St.Arvin spots for the Mic a Mac cups or whatever the hell it is supposed to be for... nothing could be more repulsive than those slovenly types who are too damned lazy to feed themselves.

Kay Jewelers and other big jewelry chain stores - come on! There are more than just diamonds in this world. As a beginning jewelry design student, I find these "designs" so lacking in imagination and dull, that I cannot believe you have the balls to charge those kinds of prices.

I hear you, Lynda, those diamond commercials are the enemy of all men, I mean what's wrong with flowers and an evening out with dinner at a nice restaraunt? No, it must be expensive jewelery or it isn't good enough!

I hate that mentality.

I just saw one that I forgot to mention, it's a commercial for contact lenses and their slogan is "See the world in high definition.".

Okay, let's excuse the fact that people are throwing 'high definition' around too liberally lately because it's the "IT" thing right now, but speaking as a home theater nut myself, this commercial just irritates me.

High definition is either 720p or 1080i lines of resolution, and given that the human eye has FAR greater resolution than that, seeing in "high definition" would be a huge step down LOL.

We already see in "high definition" and then some, so take that shit elsewhere.

The bane of my existence during a lot of NBA games on TV now is this Nokia commercial where some guy switches on his Dukes of Hazzard ringtone and starts singing along with it. Now, I actually like the Waylon Jennings original version of that song, but WTF were they thinking when they made this commercial? There are two types of people in this world:

(1) Those who don't like that song (I guess those who don't know it could be grouped in here as well)

(2) Those who do like it, but don't want to hear some random loser trying to sing it (that would include me)

Leading me to conclude that there are literally zero people walking the earth who have any chance of liking that commercial, including a large number of people who have every reason to hate it.

Yeah, that's just one aspect of the commercials that irritate me, John. I am allergic to flowers, so a nice evening out would not be bad, neither would a simple Hershey bar.

I think the Beatles summed up my feeling about the way diamond jewelry is marketed:

"Can't buy me love."

Or, to put it into terms that an HTF enthusiast like yourself can REALLY sympathize with, it is like the equivalent of grainy, out of focus, badly edited, scenes deleted or altered for no reason, pan and scan ONLY DVDs in a world full of movies and TV shows that deserve widescreen, anamorphic, restored, director's cut releases. I THINK I covered the main gripes and wishes of the typical HTF enthusiast.

Oh, ANOTHER commercial that really bugs me: "Lowe's - improving home improvement."

Considering my experiences with them, I can only assume that means that it is because their customer service is so bad that they are driving people to places like Ace Hardware or McLendon's, where you can not only get what you need, but COMPETANT help to get it.

Love the Sprint commercial with Crime Deterrent
Loathe The BK commercials especially when he's in the bed with the guy also the Jeep Commander commercial when it comes out of the water. Though they place the Fictional disclaimer on the bottom, it's still a terribly misleading commercial. Finally I agree about the Skittles commercial with the bearded guy. That's just nasty.

One newer commercial that irritates me is the Dunkin Donuts one with the soccermom bringing her kids to all kinds of activities and they're all mouthing to the song that's part of the commercial.

Yeah, I hate that. The thing that kills me is the disclaimer. We need some kind of law that states that you can't present false information in a commercial (even if you do use that 'subtle' disclaimer at the bottom of the screen)!

Here's yet more, although I find them funny than anything else, it's the anti-drug commercials with the girls who are all squished down lol. My favorite of these is the one with the one girl laying all deflated and quiet on the couch while her freind sits in the chair saying "Since she started doing drugs, this is all we do."

All I can think is that the poor girl would be just fine if someone had a bicycle pump handy lol.

Those 2 new commercials for DirecTV that play off the movies Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Twister kind of annoy me.

The 2 that really do irritate like the Dunkin Donuts one are:

the commercial for the magazine The Nation. I have no idea why this one does irritate me, but it does.

The other one that I saw for the first time yesterday advertising about growing herbs where a guy says something about growing parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme.

Thank you so much, Burger King, for setting my gender back a couple of hundred years.

I'm referring to that new commercial that starts out with one guy walking out of a fancy restaurant singing about how he doesn't want "chick food" and is soon joined by an army of testosterone addicts who proceed to execute every male stereotype in the book! They march down the street with cheeseburgers in-hand, tossing SUV's off of bridges and slugging each other in the stomach all the while chanting "I am man!!!".

I shit you not if you haven't seen it yet.

I've seen it. Hated it. I hate just about all the BK ads now. I guess they know what they're doing, since it's getting people talking, but it doesn't translate to a visit to BK for me. I can't even remember the last time I was in.

Can't stand the "Coupon Bug" spot they run during the local news here. I guess it's a website where you can go and print store coupons. There's this guy dressed up in a bug costume- I feel embarrased for him.

You jewelry ad haters must really hate the Jared ads. This woman encounters three women at a party whose husbands went to Jared, and she gets madder and madder each time they say so. She ends up throwing something in her husband's drink and storming off since he didn't go to Jared. Plus, the "that's Jared!" jingle sounds like a snippet of a song off of the Footloose soundtrack. "That's Jared for the boys! That's Jared for the man, yeah, yeah."

There's an annoying sponsor spot during Wheel of Fish. It's for some kind of OTC medication called HeadOn, or something. They never tell you what it is. The first voiceover says, "I'm glad I found HeadOn at my local pharmacy!" The second voiceover says, "Should *I* know about HeadOn?" They have two or three sets of people saying this, with no clue what it is. I'd say it's effective, since it's making me talk about it, but I don't know if HeadOn is what it was or not.
