Whatever happened to 3001?

Sorry if there's already a thread on this movie. I did a search and the only thing I could come up with was the office space SE dvd thread.

Anyway, all signs pointed to mike judge's new movie (unofficially titled 3001) being released late last year but then it kind of dropped off the map. Does anyone know what the current status of this project is?

It's currently named Idiocracy, with IMDB having it on the release schedule for October.

Re: Whatever happened to 3001?

* Bump *

Idiocracy is apparently getting only a limited release this weekend. It'll be showing here in Houston, so I'll make an effort to see it (I was one of the few people that actually saw Office Space during its theatrical run). Unfortunately, it looks like most of the country will have to wait for the DVD to see this Mike Judge film.

I saw office space in the theater too but looks like I'm going to miss this one since it's not playing anywhere near Columbus and I doubt it will be getting an expanded release after this weekend.

Re: Whatever happened to 3001?

i thought this was going to be on the third book in the space odyssey series.
2001, 2010 3001.

was a pretty good book.

Re: Whatever happened to 3001?

3001 was the fourth book. There was also 2069 which was better than the lackluster 3001.

Re: Whatever happened to 3001?

2061, I thought, not 2069?

Was it to do with Halley's Comet? I recall it was to do with landing on Europa, which had been prohibited by The Powers That Be that Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
blew up Jupiter, turning it into "Lucifer" at the end of 2010. And did Lucifer go out (as in, extinguish) at the end of 2061 or 3001? Sheesh, can't remember; and I'm a Clarke fan. Time to check Wikipedia...

Re: Whatever happened to 3001?

I saw a poster for it a couple of weeks ago so I guess it will be coming here eventually. I was surprised to see Ethan Coen (or was it Joel?)...anyway, listed as a screenwriter. That perked my interest more.

I saw Office Space in the theater too, though I'm not really a fan.

Yes, a craft crashed on Europa and, if you ask me, all of the questions of the series were answered which is what made 3001 so trite and unnecessary.

Idiocracy does open in Atlanta this weekend for a short run. I expect the DVD soom.
