"Friday the 13th PART 11"!! Friday October 13th! - Page 4

another pic

and another

There's some more pictures that show that his hand shows damage, so hopefully the head will too. I can't imagine that it wouldn't considering they've already released a part 3 Jason, whose head is essentially the same as TFC's version. As for the exclusive, there will more than likely be one, I hope it's the corkscrew.

Also, McFarlane is coming out with a Friday the 13th 3D poster in September.

I forgot about the split hand! I like that they're finally making the figures with individualized hands, instead of the generic "GI Joe" hands used for the earlier figures. It always seemed like a shortcut to use the exact same bodies, arms and legs, while changing only the head and clothing. Jason's body size and type changed from film to film; so should the figures'.

Yea, I can't wait till Jason from part 4 goes on sale. I've got them all and so far FvsJ is my fave.

As for the movies, I have no problem with Bay working on them. I enjoyed his Chainsaw remake. It was raw, gritty, great deaths and didn't cheap out on the gore.

My favorite SS Jason is probably part 7, or the one from JGTH. It's a shame that the JGTH is the coolest looking Jason (IMO), but we only see him at the beginning and end of the movie.

Another thought about the movie: if this one does take place before part 2 or whatnot, Jason won't have his mask; I wonder how they'll market it in that case. At this point, Jason is pretty much defined by the mask.
As far as I know, SS has released Jason figures from the following films:

2, 3, 6, 7, 9, and 11 (FvJ) (and Mrs. Voorhees from Part 1). Figures from Part 4 and Part 10 are coming. The version from Part 10 is the traditional looking Jason from the beginning of the film. SS is obviously planning on a "double-dip" on Part 10 by releasing a "Cyber" Jason figure later.

That leaves Jason figures from Parts 1, 5 and 8. I can see them releasing a "mongoloid" child Jason figure from Part 1. (Sorry for the non-PC term, but Jason's condition was never technically identified). I'm not sure about a figure of the "impostor" Jason from Part 5, except for the hockey mask variant. And the Jason from Part 8 would be almost identical to the one from Part 7.

They couldn't expect many sales from Parts 5 and 8, but I'd bet a mongo-child Jason figure would sell well. The figure would be more difficult to design, since it would have to be smaller than their normal figures, and would reveal all points of articulation, since it would have to be clothed in nothing but swimming trunks. Another option would be to have him be just the upper body portion, arms oustretched as he flails in the water; sort of a diorama of the drowning scene. (They could even have a canoe be the exclusive bonus accessory!) It would probably be the most controversial, and non-PC, figure they ever released, being a mongoloid child who drowns. It is, however, a famous and well-known scene in the history of horror movies.

What do you think?
I think it would be a cool figure, and it could happen. I mean, they've discussed doing Yoda and droids for the Star Wars line, so the fact that it is a non-traditional mold might not hurt its chances. They're also doing Hobbit figures for LOTR too, so those would be smaller figures. I wouldn't expect it anytime soon, but who knows. The diorama you mention sounds like a job for NECA.

I would actually expect a Roy (imposter Jason) from part 5 though. I'd buy it. And I'm sure a lot of people would too. I would rather see that before they make a part 8, which they'll probably make. I mean, part 3 and 4 are very similar looking, and they made both of those. Part 8's Jason's head is also a lot different, so there's another reason you'll probably see it made.
I'm guessing they will do Parts 5 and 8, for the sake of completion (and to make a few bucks). They know their collectors are mostly completists. I'm less optimistic for Part 1's mongo-Jason, but you never know.

You're right: NECA would definitely have the balls to release it in diorama form, and probably in scale with their 18" figures.
I'd buy a Roy figure in an instant. I'd likely pass on a Jason from Part 8 though.

To be honest, I never really cared for the SS Jason figures, they have that "dolls body" look that Matt was talking about, almost as if they simply dressed a Ken Doll up as Jason. I appreciate that they use real cloth for the clothing, but the bodies are way off.

Their Pamela figure isn't too hot, either, the 7" one that came with the NECA diorama is a much more accurate representation of Betsy Palmer's likeness.

I'm all about accuracy and likeness, for me to buy a figure not only does it need to resemble the character in dress but it also needs to resemble the actor who played him as well, even if they are wearing a mask the body language needs, in the case of their part VI figure for instance, to resemble CJ Graham as Jason. That's why I love NECA, they usually always get those details right.

My all time favorite Jason figure is NECA's 18" part VII figure, it is a dead-on representation of not only how Jason looked in that film but Kane Hodder as well.

Dressed up Ken doll??? Riiiiiiiiiight.
I much prefer NECA and McFarlane's figures to SS's "dolls". They keep calling the NECA/McFarlane product "action figures", when they're really just statues with very limited articulation. They are always able to nail the essence of the character with a great pose. I hardly ever display the SS figures, because, as John said, it's as if they simply dressed a Ken Doll up. I can never get a likeable pose from them. While the cloth clothing is nice, it's hard to look accurate when it's reduced to a 12" figure, since the buttons are too big. It can't help but looking like a doll. They do look nice in their packaging, however. Much attention is paid to their presentation. The fact that SS markets a limited edition figure that usually comes with an "exclusive" weapon or prop is a nice bonus for the devoted horror geek in me.

I have a friend who has several of the SS figures. He took a few Ken and Barbie dolls and "customized" them to look like Jason's victims. A little exacto-knife slash here, a limb-removal there and a liberal splattering of red paint. (And in keeping true to the F13 series, Barbie's clothes were removed and she was "physiologically detailed"...for accuracy, of course.) And my aunt thought I was sick!

One of the reasons I am fascinated by the SS series is, well, it just seems so wrong for a company to market a line of "dolls" based on a series of violent, bloody, R-rated movies. Every time I buy one I endure an intense emotional war between elation and guilt.

The SS are not my favorites in my collection, but I still feel compelled to collect them. As I stated before, when it comes to these horror icons, I have no will power! I really wish they'd stop making these damn things! That way, they wouldn't exist so I wouldn't have to buy them. It would be much easier that way; taking all the pressure off me!

I think my DVD collecting is similar to the collecting of these figures. (BTW, shouldn't we be calling it hoarding, and not collecting?) In a way, the studios and companies are to blame for my addiction. Much like "Big Tobacco" is responsible for marketing their product to children, these companies market their product to the inner child in me -- the part of me that is incapable of making a responsible decision to "just say no".

These companies are responsible for countless adults being trapped in "eternal adolescence" by continuing to market product that should rightfully not appeal to them...at least not anymore. How dare they tempt me with DVDs and figures of beloved characters from my childhood! They are using them against me like a "Joe Camel"!

The psychological implications are tremendous, yet where is the public's uproar? Why aren't we portrayed as "victims" in the media? Where are our advocates? Why is there no "12 step" program for addicted hobbyists?

There. I feel a little better, now that it's off my chest. But seriously, I collect them because they're pretty frickin' cool!

Hey, they aren't dolls, they're collectibles. Says so right in the company name. Sideshow Collectibles.

I say by the time you're paying for something to just sit and be displayed, it becomes a collectible rather than a toy.

I've never really thought of Sideshow's figures as just being dressed up Ken dolls; I think that's a dis-service to the detail and quality. I mean, I compare the 12" Star Wars figures from Hasbro, which are about $30 cheaper than Sideshow's stuff, and it really shows. Maybe the body's aren't exact likenesses of those in the movies, but they are pretty close. Really, the only thing is that some of the Jason figures end up looking a bit too thin, but that's forgiveable really.

Action Figures.

You could get beat up pretty badly calling them dolls lol.

Right. In fact I would go so far as to say that they suck, actually, just my opinion. They may be better than Hasbro, I won't dispute that, but they still are not what they should be coming from a reputable company like SS.

I don't know why SS can't do a decent Jason, everything else i've seen from them rocks, go figure.

Matt,
your friends a beast! I love it!

Figure is up for pre-sale

Cool exclusive accessory, although I would like to have seen the corkscrew.

If they really rush this into theaters for October 2006, it's going to be one crowded month with horror sequels: "Friday the 13th 11," "Saw 3," and "The Grudge 2."
And the Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel.

Not sure about the latest news.

Platinum Dunes is supposed to be making this now... meaning it's coming from the people who've brought us TCM'03 and The Amityville Horror.

It's not that those movies were the worst of all time or anything, but I'd like someone original to come out of these guys. Remakes don't have to be compete rip-offs of everything we've seen before. The TCM remake felt more like an homage to the typical 80's slasher, and not the remake of one of the most intense and terrifying films of all time.

** FRIDAY THE 13TH: The Fangoria web site talked to Platinum Dunes' Brad Fuller, who's co-producing the film with partners Andrew Form and Michael Bay. "We don't know exactly what it's going to be yet; it's definitely not going to be set after FREDDY VS. JASON or JASON X,” Fuller tells Fango, addressing their film’s place in the FRIDAY universe. “This was such a juicy title, we couldn’t pass it up. So we’ve been talking to Wheaton, and we’re figuring it out. Jason didn’t really start killing until FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2, so this isn’t a remake of the first one - Jason’s definitely going to be killing people in our movie. He didn’t wear the hockey mask until the third film, and our Jason is definitely going to wear the mask - so this is how we’re going about it right now.
www.gorezone.net

Once again, it's clear these guys aren't exactly artists.

As with F13th, like their previous films... they are doing this remake purely because of the title.

I wouldn't mind if these guys just wanted to remake the film, but it just sounds like they operate from a marketing thought-process as opposed to an artistic one. They're remaking F13th because they know the title is easy and effective to market as a horror film.

This should be interesting to see play out...

I'm totally confused now, just what the hell is this movie going to be?

Friday the 13th: In Limbo

or...

Friday the 13th: Lost in Translation
Friday the 13th: Part doesn't matter, cause you're just here to see Jason kill people.

Friday the 13th: Naked Teenagers Get Killed.
Possible considerations:

FRIDAY THE 13TH XI: MR. VOORHEES'S OPUS -- Jason stars in a musical production of his murderous exploits.

FRIDAY THE 13TH XI: JASON VOORHEES'S DAY OFF -- Jason takes a day off from killing to enjoy some of life's simple pleasures.

FRIDAY THE 13TH XI: JASON TAKES PARIS -- The title of this chapter takes on a double-meaning when Jason learns of a secret sex video of him and Paris Hilton. Releazing the damage this would do to his image, he sets out to destroy Paris. (Ironically, Jason is viewed as the hero in this installment).

FRIDAY THE 13TH XI: JASON GOES TO BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN -- While moonlighting as ranch hands, Jason and Freddy "curiously" discover their ability to "impale" each other in a loving manner.

Freddy...
"I wish I could ki...I mean quit you."
If anything, this sounds more like a remake of Part 3 than anything else.

Maybe it's like Friday the 13th 1-1/2 explaining the story again. Then shifting into part 2-4 with references to the sack mask, but Jason killing in the tone of 2-4.

Will this pull an H20 completely ignoring the last half of the series? Seems so. Not that this would necessarily be a bad thing IMO after the distasterous destroying of Jason's character that has been done in the last 20 or so years. I seriously just don't know what these writers were ever thinking.

Will he run? Maybe he should run again. It's more realistic when he used to run after people.

P.S. Yes, this film will make money (Platinum/New Line is excellent when it comes to marketing). It will also look the best next to FVJ. That's almost guaranteed as it will hae some form of budget. But, I feel this will just be a cash in lazy movie.

I would have really liked to see someone try to make a good Friday film for horror. With it's impact on the industry, it just deserves to have a good film.

If anything, this reboot was a good opportunity to do so. The extreme rush just doesnt get my hopes up. I know I can't say anything until I see it, but it just seems like something being made to do nothing more than to cash off of the Freddy vs. Jason box office three years later.

P.S. I bet this movie is not done in time for October. I would expect to see this in the Summer or Fall of 07.
more considerations...

FRIDAY THE 13TH XI: MY MOTHER THE CORPSE -- Mrs. Voorhees is resurrected and must make up for lost time with her son. She teaches him in proper hockey mask-matching apparel, the importance of roadkill in a well-balanced diet, the rule of homework-before-murder and the virtues of waiting for the right girl...before killing her.

FRIDAY THE 13TH XI: FRIDAY AFTER NEXT FRIDAY THE 13TH -- It's "kill-kill-kill ma-ma-ma" meets "chill-chill-chill yo-yo-yo" when Jason trades in his hockey mask and machete for a do-rag and some bling in this comic-adventure in the 'hood! Special appearances by Chris Tucker and Ice T. Featuring the chart-topping hip-hop soundtrack by F13 composer Harry Manfredini.

FRIDAY THE 13TH XI: EVERYBODY LOVES JASON -- Jason's overbearing mother moves into the shack across the deer-trail and causes all sorts of domestic distress for Jason. She surprises Jason with his long-lost, loud-mouthed father and the older brother he never knew -- who suffers in the shadow of his younger brother's psychopathic achievements.

Shhh, Matt, not so loud, they just might run with one of those ideas, I wouldn't put anything past them at this point.

I think that this is basically a remake of ALL the "Friday the 13th" movies rolled into ONE. Basically it's suppose to be the ultimate Jason movie. Not really any continuity, just all the things we love to see in a "Friday the 13th" movie.

Though it wouldn't seem that logical, you have to consider how long New Line held out for many years and through many scripts to get the right one for FREDDY VS. JASON. So I think they might care more than you'd think.

They held out for nothing. It had the go-ahead many times over the years, just other stuff took the front-burner. After DeLuca left they greenlit the first script that came along.
My last few suggestions. Seriously, I mean it this time:

FRIDAY THE 13TH XI: FIRST BLOOD, NEW BLOOD - JASON VS RAMBO -- John Rambo, decorated war veteran and expert survivalist, settles down in the woods of the long-abandoned Camp Crystal Lake. It isn't long before he discovers he is not alone, as he had hoped: famed psychopath Jason Voorhees, his territory threatened, is stalking him. Rambo responds by setting elaborate traps for Jason. The tables are repeatedly turned, as each hunter becomes the hunted in a deadly battle of survivalists.

And in case they do another TV series:

FRIDAY THE 13TH presents SURVIVOR: CAMP CRYSTAL LAKE -- Friday the 13th returns to weekly television as it joins the "reality" show craze with its latest offering. In the show, twelve willing contestants are sent to the actual Camp Crystal Lake site to fend for themselves against the famous psychopath, Jason Voorhees, for a chance to win $1,000,000. Unlike other Survivor shows, the contestants are not teamed up or "voted" off the show. It's everyone for themselves and survival of the fittest. They are armed only with the knowledge that Jason is out there...somewhere. The clever, or lucky, contestants may find hidden weapons or tools that may aid in their survival against Jason. Each contestant has an electronic GPS pulse-indicating transmitter that informs show producers when they are killed. The winner of the contest is determined when there is only one active transmitter remaining. The winner will be located by GPS and rescued, hopefully, before Jason finds him/her. The event will be captured by numerous remote-operated cameras, cleverly hidden within the woods. (The rehearsal went poorly when several cameramen, mistaken as contestants, were killed by Jason). Fans of F13, as well as fans of The Running Man, Surviving the Game, and Battle Royale, will want to tune in to Survivor: Camp Crystal Lake.
