Guillermo del Toro's film Pan's Labyrinth is on it's way & I am excited, the teaser is up over at deltorofilms.com...this looks GOOD!
I'm extremely interested in this film as well.
Oh COOL! This is one I'm looking forward to seeing.
I'll see it, but I can't wait for Hellboy 2 to get made.
I liked Hellboy a great deal but I'm kind of ambivalent about seeing a sequel. I'm sure it'll be fine and I'll be happy to see it if it comes out, but Del Toro's one of those guys I prefer to see doing different things. I'm almost more eager to see him do Halo than Hellboy 2

Re: Del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth

I haven't been able to see any of the trailers or concept/ad art for this yet- can someone clue me in as to what this movie's about?

It's a "bookend" piece to Del Toro's The Devil's Backbone, set in Franco's Spain and following a young girl as she descends into a dark fantasy world.

Re: Del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth

I think it's spanish with subtitles, right?

Re: Del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth

whatif benecio&guillermo work together... it aint a REAL del toro film

Re: Del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth

The film is in Spanish, so there will be no dialogue in any American ads. Don't want the anyone to think they might have to read

I'm very, very, very excited about this film

Re: Del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth

Great looking trailer; creepy yet beautiful. I'll watch anything Del Toro makes for the visuals alone, but he's also a very cerebral filmmaker (just listen to a commentary of his). Hopefully this will have the modern allegories and emotional depth I've heard it has.

Looking forward to it.

Re: Del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth

Advanced reviews for this have been excellent. AICN had some awhiel ago and everyone loved what they saw.

Heres another glowing advanced review...

This movie is going to rock.

Re: Del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth

Well, I saw this film earlier today and it was a huge disappointment.

An awkward mishmash of two different stories, neither of which really complimented each other, I found the film to be completely uninvolving from beginning to end.

I'd suggest lowering you expectations quite a bit!

Re: Del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth

Every last review at Rotten Tomatoes had been glowing, it has a 100% rating....odd.
In fact Ray Bennett over at Hollywood Reporter said:
Quote:
As Ofelia faces these challenges, her mother struggles with an increasingly difficult pregnancy and the captain devises ever more gruesome ways to torture captive resistance fighters. The girl's adventures are as real to her as the surrounding horrors and Del Toro's great accomplishment is in weaving the two together so convincingly.
....I will see it nonetheless and judge for myself, but I have high hopes in spite of myself (rather pessimistic at times).

Bill,
Great looking sig pic

Re: Del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth

For what it's worth, my friend hated the film even more than I did and we're both fans of Cronos, Mimic and Devil's Backbone!

To be fair, many in the audience did enjoy the film and gave del Toro and his lead actress a standing ovation.

Your mileage may vary...

Review from IGN:

This is an amazing work of cinema by any estimation, and is by far one of the most original and memorable films in recent memory.

I'm certainly curious.

Re: Del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth

First I thought the title said Del Toro pans LABYRINTH.

As in a negative review of the movie Labyrinth.

Looks interesting.

Re: Del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth

I definitely need to see "Devil's Labyrinth" (and "Pans Labyrinth" of course). While I found "Blade 2" and "Hellboy" enjoyable enough, I've never seen anything from Del Toro to warrant the geek crown that the community seems to have bestowed on him. Sounds like his Spanish language films are where his heart really lies.

Re: Del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth

Kevin,
His "non-commercial" films are heads and shoulders above his Hollywood stuff. I enjoyed Hellboy and Blade II. Both were above average for what they were. They both have some great moments.

Check out The Devil's Backbone. You won't regret it in the least. And if you like it at all, you'll like Pan's Labyrinth.

I also love (LOVE) the tagline:

Innocence has a power evil cannot imagine.

The film completely earns that tagline.

Re: Del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth

Thanks, Chuck. Will do. Am I remembering incorrectly or is "Pans Labyrinth" related to "Devil's Backbone" plot-wise?

Re: Del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth

The only thing that connects The Devil's Backbone to Pan's Labyrinth is that both films are set during the Spanish Civil War.

Re: Del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth

There are also thematic connections and similar tone, but there are no narrative connections.

Well then, that would have been Del Toro PANS Labyrinth instead of the possessive PAN'S Labyrinth.

Is this movie out already? Where can I find it?
