Help on film

Never thought I'd start one of these...but, I need help...

Movie begins in bar, man at bar is down, he tries to make a call but no one picks up, he returns to his drink and drops his wedding ring into the glass of whiskey.

I know it's vague...but, can anyone help me?

Try Keeping The Faith with Ben Stiller. that could be it.

The film is "The Interpreter", with Sean Penn.
From last year?
He defintely does this....you may be thinking of something much older. Maybe "The Interpreter" is a nod to that older film?
