Re: Harry Potter & The Order of the Phoenix discussion...

ACK!
DAMN!
that picture of the DA just made my entire day, want a teaser now, not with Eragon or some such.
freakin' sweet.
Ginny looks like a badass with the ponytail. and thank god the weasley boys all got haircuts, the mullets of GOF were kinda meh...

Re: Harry Potter & The Order of the Phoenix discussion...

Whoa, Harry aged 5 years between GoF and OOtP Scratch that, they ALL seem to have aged 5 years, especially the Weasley twins and Dean Thomas. Ginny looks very cool, but Luna looks far too "normal".

LOVE the shot of the DA, but I'm not too keen on Umbridge. She looks far nicer than I'd pictured her. Nothing "toad-like" about her.

Ah, screw it. As if anything could temper my excitment for this one

On a spoilery note...

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
It looks like they've moved Sybil's dismissal outside the castle

Re: Harry Potter & The Order of the Phoenix discussion...

I know Umbridge was described as foul pink clothing but I always picture her as a nasty mixture of purple black and puce, someone that awful in bright colors was just not a mental picture that gelled. I always pictured Umbridge as more saggy an wrinkly, come to think of it, my mental picture of Umbridge was a combination of Imelda Staunton and a sixth grade english teacher who sent you into the hall for yawning in class.

I just watched Goblet of Fire and don't think Radcliffe looks all that older in these stills. I just hope he sticks around for movies six and seven, as I think all the rest of the cast definitely will.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
I love that the most vile person in the series (Voldemort is the most evil, Umbridge the most vile) is a teacher who teaches like NCLB is trying to force every single teacher in the USA to teach. I love that the students WANT to learn, and that the Ministry of Magic doesn't want them to learn because it's easier to control and indoctrinate them--it's easier to break their spirit and independence. It makes me think that despite how loony some of John Taylor Gatto's claims are, he does reveal some truth to how our system operates, even if it's not implemented with conscious malice, it's definitely what it causes.

Umbridge never looked mean. She is described with unkind adjectives in the book because that is how Harry sees her. She is like Nurse Ratched, the sickly sweet type that kills you as she smugly smiles.
Even though everything in that office picture is straight out of a Grandma's Pie Shop, the overall effect is subtly menacing. And I think her expression in the Trelawney photo is very, very Toad-like.

Re: Harry Potter & The Order of the Phoenix discussion...

I also love the shot of the DA.

And whether she looks the part or not (a little sweet for me), I'm thrilled about Staunton.

The haircuts are also better.

I was worried about Ginny because of the Book 6 plot points, but now that she appears older than 12, it's no worries She was still looking quite young in GoF.

"The haircuts are also better."

Nah I like the GOF 70s hair.

Anyone know how to enlarge these photos in Firefox? I click on them, and FF wants me to download a file.

From her interview, which was posted earlier in this thread, she seems to have the right personality for the role. I buy her.

As for Umbridge, I think she looks right for the part. From those pictures, she exudes an air of order and restraint. One who lives by a strict set of rules and never deviates from them. Sounds like Umbridge to me.

Jason,

You have to click on the yellow bar above each image, not the image itself.

Anyone see this article? Miss Watson is having some doubts over whether she'll be back for the last two.

They said she made the same noises before signing on for movies four and five. Probably holding out for more money since her acting career will end at the finale of her last HP film. Of all the main cast, she'd probably be the least missed if they did have to recast, IMO.

Re: Harry Potter & The Order of the Phoenix discussion...

Maybe she's just genuinely struggling with commiting the next 3-4 years to the series. The author makes a good point about college, as well.

I hope she sticks around, recasting one of the leads after they've carried the seires for five years would be terrible.

Re: Harry Potter & The Order of the Phoenix discussion...

Two new pictures. Going to use HTML since the VB code made the other pictures huge:

First let me say after two virtually monochromatic films, it's nice to see some promo shots with COLOR again. Second let me say that Luna has radish earrings which makes me absolutely thrilled. God is in the details.

Have you heard the actress talk? She has a really high-pitched yet very soft voice. Even talking normally for interviews she seems like she's half day-dreaming. A lot of the quirkiness for the character will come from that voice, and her rather unusual body language.

I wonder if they tore down the main stairway set? I don't remember seeing it since Chamber of Secrets.

I think Bonnie Wright makes a perfect Ginny Weasley. She tall for a girl, which allows her to carry the formidable aspect of the character, but not so tall that she'll dwarf Dan/Harry in HBP. Her, Robbie Coltrane, and (sadly) Richard Harris are the three characters that look closest to how I imagine them.

Sorry about that. The images were supposed to be thumbnails that linked to the high-res shot but since HTF upgraded software it does all sorts of things I haven't been able to account for yet.

Exactly. She's perfectly buttoned down which makes perfect since because she's the most Muggle-like of the Wizarding World. She all of the worst parts of Cornelius Fudge.

I've got to agree. Part of the magic of this series is that with the unavoidable exception of Dumbledore each film have evolved fluidly from the previous one. It's got a similar fascination to it as Apted's "7 Up" series. Replacing any of the kids that have been through five films now would severely ruin the magic of it. Give Watson whatever she wants.

Why do you say this? She's the one I can most see having a career after the HP movies are done.

I see the radish earrings! Consider my earlier complaint about Luna null and void She looks perfect in the new pic

Re: Harry Potter & The Order of the Phoenix discussion...

considering the films will surpass the gross of the six star wars films in only five films I think Watson will probably get what she wants.

From the Article:
Quote:
College must be on her mind, not to mention a career,

Why? to be status quo? Because her current career isn't 'real'? Are they telling the boys to get a career now they're all growed up?

And why College? College, like most school, is a joke anyway; done now more for cultural reasons than educational. Kids from a certain class agree to go to college to get drunk and laid, from another class to mysteriously be allowed a slightly better job than Wal-Mart manager. Neither results in acquiring an education, but both satisfy society's expectations, semi-equally. I imagine she's had more of an education working as an actress than most people her age get in their next twenty years. Good for her, whatever she decides, I don't know why she'd want to step back into kiddy-jail with the rest of the schmucks.

But it's all moot because the interview isn't really an article as much as it's a negotiation tactic by her agent to get her to have a new contract equally lucrative as Dan and Rupert are getting.

From the article:

Watson scored near-perfect grades on her national exams. College must be on her mind, not to mention a career, and she's not sure acting is in the cards. "Daniel and Rupert seem so sure," she says, and looks sincerely plagued that she isn't. "I love to perform, but there are so many things I love doing."

She says she's not sure about acting as a career, so why the outrage?

If so, good for her. Shouldn't the third lead make as much as the second? Or should she take less money because she's a girl? Frankly, I am certain she'll stick around for the last two. She's just waffling a bit to enjoy the idea of freedom. Considering the job the three kids have done, pay them all VERY well for the last two, and move on. They've made enough money for Warner Brothers. As for college, maybe she likes to learn. I doubt she's trying to land the "right job" to find success I think Emma has done a fantastic job as Hermione.

The casting has always been spot-on. It continues to be so.

I think the outrage comes from Malcolm's comments before yours, that she'd be the least missed.

Of the three main actors, I think she's probably done the best acting job. But, it wouldn't surpise me if she did take a break and do school for a bit. After making this series a large part of your life, it wouldn't surprise me if doing something different was in the cards.

BTW, a lot of snark from Jeff Wells about Harry Potter:

Re: Harry Potter & The Order of the Phoenix discussion...

It's kinda nice to see Jeff Wells' head-up-the-ass disease is not restricted to the LOTR films. The fuck, man? Is he seriously contending that because the "Harry Potter" series features family-friendly, slightly sanitized teenagers and because it apparently doesn't allow Radcliffe and Watson (why leave Grint out of it? After all, he is the oldest of the three) to reflect whatever stereotypical teenage turmoil he imagines is going on in their lives, it's a"charade"? The crazy wino near work could come up with a better argument against the series.

Also, Americans who say "shite"? Posers.

I 100% totally agree. They haven't missed a beat. I didn't really care for Gambon the first time I saw POA, but I've warmed up to him considerably since then.

I think Jeff was trying to say subtly that he wants to get into Emma's pants.
