GROSSE POINTE on DVD - Page 3

Re: GROSSE POINTE on DVD (postponed? canceled?)

I've already alerted those closest to me about 90210/Melrose, so this will be my birthday gift to myself. The three of them should keep me busy well into next year.

Re: GROSSE POINTE on DVD (postponed? canceled?)

It is apparently going to be an Amazon exclusive.

Re: GROSSE POINTE on DVD (postponed? canceled?)

Has any TV-show-on-DVD ever been an Amazon-exclusive before this? I know there've been other series like the Canadian series Edgemont that were exclusive to their home pages, but as far as I know this is a new thing for Amazon. I hope it doesn't become a regular occurence. Then again, if it's the only way that lesser-recognized shows are able to see release, then maybe it's a good thing, or at the very least necessary.

Also wondering whether Amazon.ca will be able to sell it, or if it'll only be available on the American version.

Re: GROSSE POINTE on DVD (postponed? canceled?)

Yes, Amazon.ca has the set as well. I think this is the first time Amazon has had an exclusive like this, though Best Buy has had a couple of Fox titles that eventually went to retail months later.

Re: GROSSE POINTE on DVD (postponed? canceled?)

If it helps get the more obscure, or short, cancelled series on dvd, then bless amazon for giving this show a try. Maybe it's easier for them to sell it this way; it's easier for them to gauge the demand, based on pre-orders. I pre-ordered mine the second I saw the blurb on tvshowsondvd.com.

Re: GROSSE POINTE on DVD (postponed? canceled?)

After waiting for this series for so long and considering how much I loved it...yeah, I guess I better pre-order and support it ASAP too. Usually I wait for the day of release to phone and/or look around and see who has it for cheapest (HMV, despite being one of the most expensive DVD stores regularly, often has great sales the first week of release, beating out even Amazon sometimes. Zellers and Wal-Mart are also good to check out, especially for smaller sets like cartoons and comedies). I also like to wait and not pre-order in case I'm having an on-a-budget period by the time the thing ships and they charge my card. Can always wait a month or two after release to buy, I'm patient. But since Amazon's the only option this time and I really wanna help send the message that releasing these smaller shows is profitable...

Grosse Point (Amazon exclusive)

I pre-ordered it as soon as it was announced. No shipment.

Did anyone receive theirs?

Re: GROSSE POINTE on DVD

Uh-oh. I was ready to order this, but I'm not budging until somebody gets their copy first!

Re: GROSSE POINTE on DVD

I pre-ordered it as well. It was supposed to come out yesterday, and amazon is in the habit of sending you an email when they ship their products. Was it delayed? Gord? Anyone?

Re: GROSSE POINTE on DVD

I also had pre-ordered it and had the Amazon Prime 2 day shipping on it's order. So, when I placed my order, it showed an expected delivery date of November 9th, two days after the release date of the 7th. Thus, was kind of surprised I hadn't seen any ship notice for it. When I checked Amazon, it still showed an expected date of November 9th for delivery, but the actual Grosse Pointe page on Amazon showed estimated delivery of 1 to 4 weeks if ordered now. Finally got an e-mail from Amazon yesterday about an item I ordered being delayed and to check the site for more details. Well, now it shows an estimated delivery date of November 15th for my Grosse Pointe order, so it should ship next Monday. Hope it does actually ship next week.

Re: GROSSE POINTE on DVD

I got the same e-mail; I guess it was just delayed a week. Ugh! As if the damn thing hadn't been delayed enough!

Re: GROSSE POINTE on DVD

Any reviews for this set yet? What about the music replacements?

Re: GROSSE POINTE on DVD

I doubt you'll see reviews since Sony didn't send copies out to anyone.

Oh, okay. Guess that I'll have to wait until it's a non-Amazon.com exclusive.

Re: GROSSE POINTE on DVD

Looks like it's been delayed again. The current best guess is mid-January.

Re: GROSSE POINTE on DVD

On the other hand, Amazon now (still?) has:

"Availability: Usually ships within 1 to 4 weeks. Ships from and sold by Amazon.com.",

which suggests that it's in stock or at least deliverable at the moment.
Any indication otherwise?

Re: GROSSE POINTE on DVD

I have no idea where Venice got his info--amazon says it's in stock now. Usually they put "in stock" the day before a dvd comes out, and this is the day before (Monday, Nov. 13th). Hopefully by the end of the day I'll get an e-mail that my copy has shipped--

But seriously, Venice, where did that come from? Don't freak people out without listing your sources--

Re: GROSSE POINTE on DVD

Its not a rumour. I got this email earlier today.

Hello from Amazon.com.

Unfortunately, an unexpected delay from our supplier may prevent
us from delivering some items in your order placed on November 05 2006 02:20 PST
(Order# 002-9185065-9543235) by December 24. Other items that may be in
stock will still ship separately, with no increase in your total shipping
charges.

Please visit the Order Update page in Your Account at the address below to
approve the delay for the unavailable items:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/css/order/e...**************

By approving the delay, you are letting us know that you still want
us to ship the unavailable items to you as soon as possible, though
they may arrive after December 24. If we have not received your approval
by November 20 2006 and the items are still not available, we will cancel them
from your order.

We are sorry not to have met your expectations for this important order.
We do value your business, and hope that you continue to favor
Amazon.com for your online shopping needs.

When I clicked on the link it said the expected ship date is 14th Jan 2007.

Click on your order details and see if it says the ship date is Jan 2007.

Amazon asked me to confirm that yes, I still wanted to keep the order intact even through the delay. So I still have it on order, but the other DVD has been shipped.

Apologies for causing a tempest in a teapot.

Maybe not, but as the link in your subsequent post makes clear, it sure sounds like an Amazon glitch.

I did that as soon as I saw Venice's post. On my order, nothing had changed, and it still hasn't. Shipping estimate for Grosse Pointe is between Nov. 12 and 19, 2006.

Just rechecked my order with Amazon. My estimated delivery date has now been changed from November 15th to January 17th as well.

In fact that's a totally standard e-mail. I got it once or twice in the past year.

In one case, my ordered items simply appeared to be delayed less than two weeks, in a much worse case I got the message twice (after the firstly mentioned time had passed), and finally a note saying the item (a book) was no longer available.

The new shipping date may, or may not, be specific for the item. They tend to "cover" themselves, is my experience.
Except in the one case mentioned above, when they couldn't deliver at all, all such items arrived long before the date they mentioned.

(Which in turn doesn't prove a thing about the case at hand in this thread.)

Re: GROSSE POINTE on DVD

There is a potential upside to this. Maybe Sony will think twice in the future about giving Amazon an exclusive.

My order still shows shipment between Sept. 12 and 19. Just to see what would happen, I called Amazon's customer service number, and the rep. said her screen shows that they have received sets and that the sets are on their way to the fulfillment center.

As a further example of how little regard one should pay to Amazon's emails, immediately after my inquiry I received the following email:

Quote:
Thank you for contacting us at Amazon.com.

I apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced as a result
of our policy that restricts the shipment of certain items to APO/FPO
addresses.

We hold all U.S. military personnel in high regard. Many Amazon.com
employees are former military or dependents ourselves, and we
personally know how difficult it can be to be stationed away from
home.

Unfortunately, we are not able to ship all products offered at
Amazon.com to APO/FPO addresses. Please know that we do consider
all customer feedback, and we appreciate your taking the time to
contact us regarding this matter.

Thank you for shopping at Amazon.com.
Like Amazon, I hold military personnel in high regard, but I am not now, and have never been, in the military.

Re: GROSSE POINTE on DVD

Ooops: I got the message too. It says:

Items not yet shipped:
Delivery estimate: January 18, 2007 - January 20, 2007 1 of: Grosse Pointe - The Complete Series
Sold by: Amazon.com

But on the Grosse Pointe page it says "

Availability: Usually ships within 1 to 4 weeks. Ships from and sold by Amazon.com. "

Brother! I'm not going to sleep, nor am I going to be able to relax until the dvd is in my hand. Maybe they should ship a copy of Mel Brooks' "High Anxiety" along with it.

Re: GROSSE POINTE on DVD

I'm sure the five of us who are still interested have read the latest news, so I won't bother quoting it. I'll just comment that Amazon is now showing "usually ships within 4 to 7 weeks", but my estimated ship date hasn't changed.

Goodness knows when the thing will finally ship for real. Maybe we should start a pool...

Re: GROSSE POINTE on DVD

Well well. It looks like Amazon has finally found those missing boxes, because my copy has now shipped. Perhaps others will have theirs shipped also. Check those orders.

Re: GROSSE POINTE on DVD

Mine's not shipped, but it's being prepared for shipment. So yes, they obviously found the inventory.

Re: GROSSE POINTE on DVD

When did you all order it as my order is stuck and will not ship for a while still ?

I guess I ordered too late to make the 1st batch of orders.
