Re: Taxi Season 4

Yes, silly me. In my upset about not hearing a release date, I forgot to thank Gord again..
Thanks Gord.
My bad..

Re: Taxi Season 4

I suppose all one can do if you like Taxi but are waiting for more is to go ahead and just buy seasons 1-3. I mean, enough people stopped complaining about wondering why we weren't seeing more Happy Days and finally bit the bullet and bought season 1 and now we're getting season 2. I think if every Taxi fan buys the available seasons, then Paramount will finally bring season 4 and 5 out. 3 out of 5 seasons is enough that fans should at least be reasonably satisfied, so the fans will be helping the show finish

Re: Taxi Season 4

Here's my "vote" for Season 4 and 5. I bought the first three sets the first week they were each released, so that's another vote with my wallet.

Me too!!

Re: Taxi Season 4

I submitted my vote just recently with an order for the first three seasons.

Where is Taxi Seasons 4 & 5?

Taxi has just won a TV LAND award. Though it's not an Oscar, it still should make the people at Paramount sit up and take notice. It is a classic. Period.
Why are we still waiting for two more releases??

I concur. However, my guess is that Paramount hasn't released the last two seasons of Taxi due to A) what they felt were insufficient sales numbers for the first three seasons, and B) there are significant music rights costs for a couple of episodes in the last two seasons. When you factor A + B, Paramount may feel that they won't get significant enough return to warrant a release of the last two seasons. My guess is that without the music rights issues, Paramount would have already bit the bullet and put out the last two seasons even without high expectations for sales.

I agree that it's a terrible shame that fans of the show who bought the first three seasons (including me!) have been left high and dry with only two seasons to go. I keep hoping that Paramount will change their minds in the not too distant future, perhaps when their other TV properties begin to dry up a bit.

Re: Where is Taxi Seasons 4 & 5?

Hopefully the TV Land award has given the first three seasons of Taxi a good sales jump.

Re: Where is Taxi Seasons 4 & 5?

I'd buy these in a second if Paramount would release them. I wonder if the regime change at CBS/Paramount did anything to shake up the thinking about Taxi 4 & 5?

Re: Where is Taxi Seasons 4 & 5?

If it shook up their thinking, it probably "shook it up" in the same way it did about Happy Days: cut corners, replace music, use old transfers.

We're lucky these shows come with boxes.

Re: Where is Taxi Seasons 4 & 5?

The only thing that would make sense is if there are music rights
issues with the final 2 seasons of Taxi. Why would Paramount
quickly release the first 3 seasons of any TV series if they were
unsure about sales figures of the series? They should have flown
a test balloon by releasing just the first season, then make the
decision to release the remainder of the series if they are satisfied
with sales. I also bought the first 3 seasons, and I'll buy the other
2 seasons of the show if they aren't altered or edited.

Re: Taxi Season 4

It's now been over two years since Taxi Season 3 was released, and we haven't heard a peep about Season 4.Seeing how the second seasons of Happy Days,Laverne & Shirley and Mork & Mindy were released, after a similar amount of time in limbo,I thought Taxi would follow suit. That doesn't seem to be the case, which is a major disappointment.I hope Paramount will release the final two seasons. It's probably to late to release them,in time for the holidays,so I hope for early(January,February,March)2008.

Re: Taxi Season 4

This is disappointing, indeed. What are the probable and common reasons?

1. Rights somewhere being held up.
2. Lack of purchases on any or all of the first three seasons.

Add any reasons to this list...

The rights to what? The Vienna Waits song by Billy Joel?Surely it can't take over two years to clear the rights for one song.Does Paramount even bother to try to clear the rights for songs used in their shows? As for lack of purchases,it's been said that poor sales were part of the reason why we had to wait so long for the second seasons of Happy Days,Laverne & Shirely and Mork & Mindy. So why would Paramount release further seasons of those shows if they didn't sell welll, and not release any more seasons of Taxi?

That was my reaction, too Dan when I got my hopes up after seeing the announcement of Cheers Season Nine, but no word on Taxi.

I really don't understand Paramount's apparent extreme antipathy to releasing the last two seasons of this show.

Re: Taxi Season 4

Paramount is apparently releaseing S9 of Cheers to coencide with S1 of Becker (both Ted Danson shows). Maybe someday they will release S4 of Taxi to coencide with a S1 release of Dear John (both Judd Hersh shows). Unlikely, but one can hope.

Nevertheless i'm sure we will get the last 2 seasons of Taxi at some point.

Neither do I.What I also don't get is the secrecy around this show and it seems Taxi is the only title that Paramount are like that with.

What are the chances of Paramount releasing Dear John?I'd say slim to none.I hope you're right, though, that the rest of Taxi will be released,at some point.Let's hope that some point isn't too far off.

Re: Taxi Season 4

So I am still wondering what the holdup for Season 4 is if the reasons are not rights issues and poor sales.

Heck, there was a tie in with Numbers: Season 3 with an episode where Judd Hirsch's character Alan Eppes says there's a classic TV show on and the theme to Taxi plays.

There are between 1000 and 2000 votes at TV Shows on DVD. Is that enough interest? The rank is 364 right now.

It's been almost 2.5 years since Season 3. My son is 2.5 years old. I've been keeping myself busy with him, but...

Any word or reason, Paramount?

Re: Taxi Season 4

I hate to say this, but I've started to resign myself to the fact that Paramount won't be releasing the last two seasons of Taxi, which is unfortunate. Were sales of season 3 that bad? Were they that bad compared to Happy Days,Laverne & Shirley and Mork & Mindy, which had more seasons released after a couple of years in limbo? For some unknown reason,Taxi seems to be the red-headed stepchild of the Paramount family.

Re: Taxi Season 4

knowing Paramount, never say never. They brought Happy Days, Laverne and Mork back from the grave when we had counted them out (and now they're halfway through L&S and almost done with Mork), whose to say that Paramount might not surprise us with Taxi s4? I mean, Cheers s9 seemed unlikely and came out of nowhere.

I am almost certain though that if we get seasons 4 and 5, they will be in the amaray cases with the silver discs

I wish I had your optimism,Jay.

So am I.That seems to be the way that Paramount release all their shows now.

Re: Taxi Season 4

I faithfully bought all the seasons of All In The Family as soon as they were released (for top dollar)....that was my "vote" for that show...and now it seems they are leaving us high and dry on that one (not Paramount...) -so I am NOT buying S1-3 of Taxi only to wait 10 years for S4...if ever.

Re: Taxi Season 4 (PSYCH!)

Okay, I just glanced at the home page of TV Shows on DVD and saw "Taxi" in the title columns and my heart skipped a beat! But the summary of the news was just that a very special heartwarming episode will be included on a Holiday Treats DVD with other classic TV shows.

There is no word on which episode but if it's from Season 4 or 5, there is hope!

C'mon Paramount ... we want Seasons 4 and 5!

That got my hopes up to there for a second. That news item should have been listed under "site news" IMHO.

Gord and I discussed this (via instant message, since he's in Vegas at the EMA show). We decided that Taxi fans would mostly kill us if we didn't point up that at least one episode, possibly new-to-DVD (but we don't know that yet), was coming out this year.

And if it turns out this ep is from the first three seasons, we'll join y'all in wanting to shoot the studio in their collective foot!

Re: Taxi Season 4

I just read the news item. What a major disappointment! One episode(which I say will be the "Full House For Christmas" episode, from season 1)on an eight episode Christmas themed DVD.Even if it's an episode, from seasons 4 or 5,what good does that do the people, including myself, who've bought seasons 1-3?Paramount should have announced season 4,for October 7,instead of this.Just goes to show how little they think of Taxi.

Re: Taxi Season 4

there we go, javascript issue.

So: It's November 2008, and it seems that Taxi seasons 4 & 5 will never make it out on DVD. Boohoo. The missing seasons would have made a terrific gift for Christmas or Channukah. It's a shame to have left a great show like Taxi incomplete in it's DVD release.
