I designed this poster out of sheer boredom. I'm still a PS noob so forgive me I'm gonna work on it more later on.

I had zero interest in this film until I saw the trailer. I have to admit that it looks like it has potential. It definitely reminds me of the TV series, in a good way, and I love Mann's work. I'm putting it on my 'to see' list for now.

Did he create the original series and direct that...yes.

I thought the show was created by some guy named Anthony Yerkovich...
Your right Jason, Mann was a writer and director for the show and came up with many of the concepts.
Actually Mann did not write or direct for the show. He was the Executive Producer, and was mainly in charge of the visual style and music for the show.
On television, the Executive Producer is the showrunner, the equivilant of Director in film. He was credited with atleast one script (episode 1.14 "Golden Triangle: Part 2"). The other Executive Producer, Anthony Yerkovich, is also an exec. producer on the movie.

I've started renting the series from Netflix. Just finished the Pilot and 2nd episode. I vaguely remember watching the show a couple of times as a kid, but it definitely wasn't a regular series for me. It's definitely dated, but still pretty entertaining, IMO.
I'm really looking forward to the movie, mostly because I really loved Collateral, and this looks a lot like that. BTW, I haven't seen it mentioned in this thread yet, but you can download the teaser in 720p WMV-HD from the official site. Mann definitely seems to be a fan of shooting stuff in HD video.

I've always thought that Michael Bay always got a bum rap. He fills the niche of loud dumb enjoyable action movies...
I didn't know loud dumb movies were a niche .

H - ok, he said enjoyable, I know. VERY arguable.

Not so much a "niche" as a "bottomless crevasse"

Re: Michael Mann's Miami Vice: Teaser online

New trailer and new posters.

Those villain posters are unique.

Re: Michael Mann's Miami Vice: Teaser online

I didn't know Gong Li is in this. Very nice!

Looks like it'll be good. Mann said the movie doesn't have much in common with the show and that it'll be darker.

Re: Michael Mann's Miami Vice: Teaser online

Beautiful trailer. Mann is certainly the best director releasing a film this summer, and that trailer was a clear indicator. Gorgeous to look at...can't wait for the film.

Awesome...can't wait. Thx for the heads up!

Re: Michael Mann's Miami Vice: Teaser online

I'm having trouble getting the trailer to play. In fact, I can't ever get Internet Explorer to play movies via the QuickTime plug in.

Re: Michael Mann's Miami Vice: Teaser online

I wonder if any of the original cast members are going to make cameos? It would be funny to see Don Johnson in it.

Re: Michael Mann's Miami Vice: Teaser online

I didn't care for the 1st teaser but the trailer looks good. Plus, it's Michael Mann, and aside from Ali, all of his movies are awesome.

That HD trailer is ridiculous. I'm convulsing on the floor. This is a ballsy advertising campaign. Clearly going for the more adult crowd. Great, great posters.

Re: Michael Mann's Miami Vice: Teaser online

I wonder if Vice will continue Mann's trend of adult action flicks(like Heat and Collateral) and be Rated R. The trailer looks fantastic!

Brent, it will be rated R, according to EW, which states that Mann specifically insisted on it.

Good to know- I was worried that with the huge budget the studio would insist on PG-13.

Re: Michael Mann's Miami Vice: Teaser online

Finally got to see the trailer---awesome. At least one nice homage to the series with the shot of Crockett and Tubbs in the speedboat. There is an episode from the first season--The Return of Calderone--where Crockett and Tubbs are in a similar speedboat (in the exact same seats, actually), so that was a nice homage.

Really excited for this one--are we still going to see this, Chuck?

Re: Michael Mann's Miami Vice: Teaser online

I gotta say Im kind of suprised by the negativity. I love Manns movies and personally I cant wait to see this.

"I didn't know Gong Li is in this. Very nice!"

Hopefully they wont cut her nude scene

Opening show. I have a friend who'll be with us. This is his #1 movie of the summer. It's certainly up there for me. Trailer was gorgeous.

Updated with MPAA rating: R, for strong violence, language and some sexual content.

I wouldn't say surprised but I was bit nervous that the studio might try and mandate a PG-13, especially considering the reported cost of the film.

Re: Michael Mann's Miami Vice: Teaser online

I wonder why they couldn't get Don Johnson to do the role. He was the essence of cool.

Nice poster Kain

Re: Michael Mann's Miami Vice: Teaser online

Last night, I watched the worst Miami Vice episode I've ever seen: THE MAZE.

The editing was so obviously bad that you had characters referencing events that would not happen until 2-3 scenes in the future.

HORRIBLE.

He was and may still be but he looks very old now and this movie needs a younger Crockett and Tubbs.
