Re: Bewitched Season 3

Yes. I hope she recovers quickly.

Anyway, I have what may be a stupid question. One of my favorite episodes is the one where Samantha is writing a play about indians I think it was and the characters sort of come out of her imagination and help her write it out. I think this was a 2 parter. Anyway, my question is...what was the show's title and which season was it in?

Thanks!

I can't remember the name of the show but it was a one parter on in the second season

Re: Bewitched Season 3

Tabetha, it was a one-parter in the second season entitled, "And Then I Wrote."

Re: Bewitched Season 3

Thank you. I have the second season set but I don't remember seeing it when I watched the set. Interesting. Oh well. Will have to watch that episode soon.

Re: Bewitched Season 3

I am just going to repost what Mark Simpson aka The Bewitched Collector posted over at Harpies about Kasey as he puts it so well:

Quote:
I must convey the very sad news that our dear Kasey passed away this afternoon (July 6) at approx. 3pm PDT.
The damage to her brain from the stroke was found to be so extensive that her family felt it best to remove all life support and let nature take its course, as that is what Kasey would have wanted.

Let us all pray for her one more time and remember all of the love and joy this wonderful, beautiful lady has given each and every one of us.

We can take heart that the struggles she has fought so hard to conquer over the past 2 years are over and she is at peace.

I am so sad about this...I really thought she would make it but I am also quite happy for her that she no longer has to endure such struggles. She was a marvelous lady and I am so blessed to have met her last year.

Re: Bewitched Season 3

A co-worker told me about it this morning and I was so surprised, as the latest news had been so encouraging. But as you said, she no longer is suffering. My condolences go out to all her family and loved ones. I'm going to have to watch Strangers on a Train this weekend in her honor, as well as some select BW eps.

Re: Bewitched Season 3

I have to admit that after watching the first two disks, I just bought the set at Target for $20, I was disappointed in the first colorized episodes not to mention the writing. The series even lost that magical spark that I loved when watching the first two seasons.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I wish the producers had stuck with the same writers as well as keeping the series in its black and white format.

Re: Bewitched Season 3

I just thought that I would mention that Timothy Rooney, who guest starred as a smart aleck hippie teen in the episode "My Friend Ben" passed away this past Saturday. He was 59 and died from complications due to a disease he suffered from for the past five years called dermatomyositis. He is one of Mickey Rooney's children.

Re: Bewitched Season 3

Oh man. That is WAY too young. My heart goes out to Mickey Rooney. No parent should ever have to bury a child, no matter what their age.

I have to agree with you Mark. I have just finished watching the 2nd season, and eagerly started watching season 3. But I found the story lines not nearly as good as the first two seasons (too much emphasis on Tabitha's newly discovered power), and not nearly as many jokes. The only exception was the episode where the Steven's are trying to get rid of the Tates, and Samantha makes Larry act like he's had too much to drink. That sequence was really funny...and could have easily come from any episode during the first 2 seasons.

Granted, I've only watched the first 6 or so episodes from the 3rd season. I'm hoping that maybe the 3rd season just started out slow...

Pretty much after those first 6 or so episodes the focus of the show reverts back to Durwood and Samantha. I don't think the writing slipped at all (with the exception of the "Ho Ho the Clown" episode....the most IRRITATING episode from the whole series)...they just had to integrate the new baby and I think it brought a lot of opportunity for more episodes.

Re: Bewitched Season 3

I also don't think the quality of the writing slipped in the 3rd season. That season had some of the best eps in the series: I'd Rather Twitch Than Fight, Charlie Harper Winner, and I Remember You Sometimes to name just 3. There were some sub-par eps that year, but that was also true of the 1st & 2nd seasons as well. Two HORRIBLE eps: George The Warlock (Season 1) and My Grandson the Warlock (Season 2). (Blech!)

To me the real decline came in the second half of the 5th Season, when they scrambled to create a lot of Darrin-less eps. There was a SHARP decline in quality then, and they never recovered.

I agree with everything you said, John, except that part about "George the Warlock"...I LOVE that episode cause it involves the Raven of Edgar Alan Poe fame, Danger O'Riley was the HOTTEST of all the other girls that went after Durwood and George seemed to me to be the most believable of all Samantha's former warlock boyfriends...all the others seemed too wimpy for Samantha to even bat an eye at....

I like George and Danger, and I thought they were cute together. But the dialogue in that episode is really stilted, and to me it just doesn't fit. I like the premise and the cast, but the writing just sets my teeth on edge. But I do love when the Raven whistles the BW theme!

I do have to agree that the dialogue in that episode does seem rather weird...and I always thought that the Raven whistling the theme should've caused some sort of collapse of the universe for how would it know that song w/o having seen the show from which it is on?? LOL

Re: Bewitched Season 3

Victor Mascaro, webmaster of Vic's Bewitched Page, has recently posted a rare Quaker Oats sponsor opening to Ep. #97: "I Remember You...Sometimes".

Bewitched 1967 Quaker Oats/Ken-L Ration Opening

The animation features Samantha setting a kettle on the stove rather than a frying pan and instead of animation promoting the product after the smoke clears, there is footage of a real dog (this was for Ken-L Ration Dog food).

It goes w/o saying that this should've been included on the DVDs.

The link also features video of the ABC commercial that features EM, Judy Carne of "Love on a Rooftop" and Marlo Thomas of "That Girl" sitting in the 1164 living room promoting their respective shows.

Doesn't the narrator talking about Bewitched second season for Bewitched?

He says something about ABC's second season, so I'm not sure what he meant. The style of EM's hair plus the couch are from the third season.

I have this in my collection. I think the reference to "ABC's second season" was because a couple years ago they were calling themselves "The New ABC". I saw it at the end of a Patty Duke Show I have with all the network and sponsor tags intact. The ABC tag read "The new ABC"

Re: Bewitched Season 3

Thank you for your explanations about that. It does makes sense.

Re: Bewitched Season 3

No -- here's what it is.

Back in those days, the new season began in September, and in January the flops were cancelled and some new shows started (and some shows changed time slots.) They would refer to January as being "the second season." It wasn't just ABC -- CBS and NBC did it, too.

And, indeed, it was in January of 1967 when "Bewitched" moved from 9:00 EST to 8:30. This promo was strictly to tell people about the new schedule for the "second season."

Nowadays, it seems the very concept of "seasons" is long gone, with shows coming and going all the time.

Re: Bewitched Season 3

I am sure you are correct Joe. Love On The Roof Top only lasted one season and since the show was already on the air per the promo, this is definitely
a January promo.

In the 60's ABC was known as the 13 week network as so many of their shows were cancelled after 13 weeks. In those days the minimum order for a new show was 13 weeks and the networks ran all the shows produced. There may have been a few exceptions to this but shows were allowed to run longer before being pulled off the air.

Yes, shows were given more of a chance back then. But I can tell you one, at least, that was pulled quicker than 13 weeks, and that was "The Tammy Grimes Show" in 1966 -- on ABC, of course.

What "gets me" about today is that a show will be hailed as a great success with a rating that back in 1966 wouldn't get it past 13 weeks.

Even a "Top 10" show today has a rating that would be considered mediocre back in network TV's prime.

Re: Bewitched Season 3

Mark Simpson aka The Bewitched Collector recently discovered an awesome RARE promo from the Third Season concerning Liz hosting the Tournament of Roses Parade.

Take a look at it here: YouTube - 1967 ABC Tournament of Roses Parade RARE Promo

I think it's awesome how "new" promos or 'extras' always seem to pop up...too bad Sony never includes them*

*With the exception of EM's "Sisters at Heart" intro/closing.
