KITT just got shredded in that episode (IIRC, they introduced that "super pursuit mode" in Part II. )

An update on the Region 2 version of Streethawk: The Complete Series. A new news article has been posted today on DVD Times, about Region 2 TV and film releases in March and April. Streethawk is mentioned towards the top of the page. No front cover artwork yet unfortunately, although I haven't checked Amazon.co.uk and Play.com to see if they now have a pre-order listing up for the boxset. The extras sound great, including an unaired version of the pilot. The URL link to the news article is below:

TV and film Region 2 DVD releases in March and April - DVD Times news article

Streethawk: The Complete Series is being released on Region 2 on Monday 22nd March (same day as Mission: Impossible: The Seventh and Final Season, and Hawaii Five-O: The Seventh Season).

Checked on Amazon.co.uk and Play.com and they both have pre-order listings for Street Hawk: The Complete Series, along with front cover artwork for the boxset.

Just seen a new thread for Street Hawk when there was an existing thread already.

TVShowsOnDVD posted a new news article on their website yesterday for Street Hawk, regarding the Region 1 release date and DVD extras in the set. The URL link to the news article is below:

Just checked the TVShowsOnDVD news article I posted above, and yes Shout! Factory are distributing Street Hawk on Region 1.

Automan: The Complete Collection, being released by Fabulous Films (this title has been mentioned on their Facebook page), is available for DVD pre-order on HMV.com and Play.com, with a UK release date of Monday 30th April (release date subject to change).

If I'm not mistaken, Automan had an episode guest starring Laura Brannigan. I think she even sings in the episode. Such a shame she is gone, but I will get the series for that alone.

What's with the use of a hyphen in Automan? The series never spelled it that way:

Sorry, but it's a pet peeve with me when people mis-spell movie and TV titles. tongue.gif

Also, I won't get excitied untill I see it listed on Amazon UK. Untill then, it's wait and see.

I think he was spelling it to illustrate the way that Ernie Anderson said it on those ABC promos (as two separate words).

Well, what I hear is Automan. Not two seperate words. Ernie had a knack for putting emphasis on words in the oddest places. "Stay tuned for the Loooove Boat" is one I remember fondly.

Whatever. It's silly to argue about something so trivial. I DO agree about "Streethawk", Ernie really did say it as one word, not two. smile.gif

I do hope the series is coming to DVD but I remain skeptical untill I see an Amazon Uk listing. Play.com does not deliver to America so I need Amazon to step up so I can place my order.

Keep in mind that the Laura Branigan episode is wall to wall with her songs and if anything holds up the release it'll be the music rights for that episode.

Let's keep fingers crossed!

Oh, that preview reminds me how much I liked Masquerade! I would LOVE to see that come to DVD!

Re: Laura Branigan -

She had four major hits and a number of other recordings that made the Top 40 or Hot 100 lists in various countries, and was nominated for two Grammy Awards and an American Music Award. Gloria, Self Control, Solitaire, and How am I Supposed to Live Without You? (co-written by Michael Bolton, who recorded a hit version years later) are her best known songs. The problem is she was at best co-lyricist for most of them. (Gloria and Solitaire were reworkings of hit songs originally recorded by others in Italian and French, respectively. The English lyrics are less translations than new songs set to the same music.) So it isn't just Branigan's estate that would have to clear her music, it is whoever owns the underlying publishing rights to the songs today.

As a actor, Branigan appeared in a number of independent films and a bunch of TV shows in several countries. In the US she sang on a number of shows (including SNL) but only did three guest shots on dramatic series - Automan, of course, CHiPs, Knightrider (apparently she had a need for speed) and the syndicated horror anthology Monsters.

Regards,

Joe

Well I wish it was another company besides FF releasing Automan. I've bought 3 of their releases: Tales of The Gold Monkey, Street Hawk, and Airwolf: the Movie. Gold Monkey and Airwolf suffer from the dreaded PAL "speed up" audio on their Region 1 sets.

You mean Region 2, surely? I'm assuming you made a typo, as "Street Hawk" and "Monkey" were released by Shout Factory in R1, not Fabulous Films. It would be highly unusual for an R1 release to come from a PAL master source (except in the case of the Filmation library, where the original films were mostly thrown away).

Unfortunately, you have to make one of two less-than-ideal choices: buy the R2 edition, knowing ahead of time it's likely to have PAL speed-up (unless they were working from NTSC videotapes instead of the 35mm prints)--but at least you'd get to own it now, or wait, hoping that a R1 release will happen at some point, though you risk it never coming out in R1 in the first place.

Nope, I have Region 1. Gold Monkey and Street Hawk were put together by FF and only released though Shout Factory here in the states. The FF logo can be found on the slipcases. The UK "don't copy this..." disclaimer is even intact on those sets. They did right by Street hawk, but totally ruined Gold Monkey and Airwolf.

I think in my head I could deal with the PAL audio if I was purchasing a Region 2 set. However it just seems sloppy to me releasing a series on Region 1 that sounds like that.

Still nice to see that Automan is going to be released.

Sounds like Shout! is at least partially to blame, here, in not demanding true NTSC masters from the film elements, rather than what (by your description) simply amounts to a standards-conversion of the R2 masters (which makes the R2 sets superior to anyone with a multi-system setup).

Yep, I agree about the R2 being superior in this case if one has the set up to view them. Had I known I just would have bought the R2 to begin with.

I may do that with Automan.
