Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!

I cannot believe Paramount didn't release this to coincide with the MI:3 release. Unless, they are doing a butt-load of extras and releasing it to coincide with the MI:3 dvd release.

Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!

Not quite that simple. Yes, he left the lot at sundown on Fridays (even in the middle of a scene), but producer Bruce Geller wanted him so badly that he was willing to accomodate his religion. CBS might not have wanted Hill, but Geller did, and Lucille Ball backed him up.

The reason Hill was let go was that he became progressively more difficult as the season wore on. He became so dlfficult, that he more or less "forced" Geller to let him go. A good article about the whole affair can be found here: http://www.podengo.com/apocrypha/fall00/hill.html

Actually,at the time Hill was replaced, the "official" version that was being floated was that Hill was fired because his portrayal of Dan Briggs was described as being too "wooden"...

You're right about it posted at Play.com but the "artwork" box is blank for me. "not available" message. Also, the release date's strange...here's the caption from Play.com

our price: £47.99 Delivered
availability: Due for release on 02/10/2006

If it's released this past Feb, I wonder why it's implied for a future release? Is there a typo at the site? Do they mean, Feb '07?

Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!

The Brits (and most of the rest of the world) write dates as day/month/year. So 2/10 would be October 2.

Please, don't give Paramount any ideas. I wouldn't put it past anyone to digitize Tom Cruise into S1 and digitize Steven Hill out.

Maybe before the flop of MI:3, but I doubt they would now

And it would bomb in sales.

Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!

Tom Cruise couldn't be digitized into those episodes. The vast differences in film stock between 1966 and the present would make it too inconsistent.

Cool artwork!

I disagree. The "floating head" montage is okay, I suppose, but I really dislike the use of the "modern" (i.e. movie) logo. It's almost like the studio is trying to hoodwink the "young-uns" more familiar with the films into buying this, too.

On the whole, I think the art department could do better, but at the very least, I feel they should've used the proper "vintage" logo. Still, it's not what's on the outside that's important, etc., etc.

I agree - the whole typed MISSION: followed by the IMPOSSIBLE stamp image is pretty distinctive.
The logo they have on the covers at the moment, with the capitals and the line through them, is just awful - and also reminds me of the Airwolf logo.

Also, can anyone explain to me why they felt the need to explain that this is "The Complete First TV Season"? What other type of season could this be? I guess they may be trying to cover people who think this is the movie, but is that really likely.

A local video store has a couple of tapes with the first four episodes from this season. I've watched the first three so far (the pilot with the warheads in the safe, and the two-parter prison break with the travelling carnival) and I've really enjoyed it. I was a child of the 80s, so only knew the New MI, and it has been cool to get to see the original show. It is a great show, and I look forward to getting the series on disc.

There are TV series that are released in partial seasons, Matt, such as Combat!, Lost in Space, and Wiseguy. A "Complete" season has all of the episodes in one set.

Here's a question that wasn't asked: Is the author of this topic James Landau somehow related to original Mission: Impossible series co-star Martin Landau?

Jeff, Matthew was referring to the word TV, not complete. It's as if Paramount doesn't want this product to be confused with "other" season set formats, such as radio, movies, or novels.

Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!

Are you sure he meant that, Matt?

I don't see how anyone not familiar with the old series finding Mission: Impossible on a Best Buy shelf in the TV section (with different actors on the cover no less) could possibly confuse this show with the modern feature films with Tom Cruise!
