At long last, Mission: Impossible! - Page 10

Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!

Watched the first few episodes of season four thus far and I am really enjoying it. The writing is still there, it's just a case of adjusting to the new character/s.

Yes season 4 is good, and for fans of martin landau it a disappointment, Ive seen allot of s4 on channel 56 here in LA . S4 is allot of fun Ive alway thought that most of the fan displeasure with Nimoy is he was replacing a wildly popular ML and at first made Nimoy character Paris a bit over the top the first few episodes, but it settles down and there great episode all though s4. Another knock on season four is no steady female lead, I know Im in the minority here but I honest didnt miss Barbara Bain in season 4 all that much except for the few episodes specifically written as a "cinnamon" heavy episode honest I dont think she ever bought that much to IM s1-s3. Honestly I think Lee Meriwether and Leslie Ann Warren were more attractive, just from the female eye candy side of the show. Season 4 is fun to watch and the second restart of the show buy it and have fun watching.

Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!

I picked up MISSION:IMPOSSIBLE Season 4 today at the local Best Buy. I haven't seen most of these episodes in years and look forward to them. I remember liking Leonard Nimoy in the Paris role as it gave the actor a chance to stretch from the usually stoic Spock on STAR TREK.

Being a TIME TUNNEL junkie, I also appreciate the work of Lee Meriwether in the episodes that she was in.

Yes, I missed Landau and Bain, but having other team members just made it all the more realistic.

Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!

Mine arrived from Amazon today. Watched episode one: The Code & Paris is as good as I remember him. Looking forward to the other 25 episodes & seasons 5,6,7 & ABC seasons 1 & 2. I can never get too much MI!

Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!

I just finished my set today and enjoyed it as much as the other 3 seasons. My favourite episodes were Submarine, The Code, Death Squad and The Crane. The only one I didn't really care for was Lover's Knot, not a bad episode, just the story and the love scenes didn't do much for me.

I really liked the addition of Leonard Nimoy this season, even though it took me about 7 episode before I stopped thinking of him as Spock. Other than that, he fit in really well. I never saw him as being over the top in his performance. Though I missed both Landau and Bain, I missed Bain more because the show needed a steady female lead. Aside from Lee Meriwether, who was great and my favourite guest star, I never felt like I got to know any of the women this season. I didn't get to care about them. Can't wait for Season 5

Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!

Well, everything was fine until the about 35 minutes into the first episode of disc #6. Pixellates & freezes in several spots so back to Amazon it goes. I hate when there are problems with a box set. They, of course will only exchange full box for full box so I will hold onto my set until the replacement set arrives & switch out disc 6 myself. Damned if I'm watching 20 one hour episodes over again just to make sure they are glitch free when I already know the first 5 discs on this set already are. Now, I'm watching disc 7 to find out if I need to switch 6 & 7 or just # 6.

Yea, I've always defended Season 4. Under the corcumstances it I think most people who haven't seen it for a while just assume it went downhill after Landau and Bain left, but usually end up agreeing with me after seeing it again.

I believe this is right before the studio politics kicked in and Prodcer Bruce Geller started getting kicked off of his own set!

Bill,

I estimate that I've done the 'mix and match' with Amazon.com sets about twenty-five times over the past four years. It's one of the things I like about that particular distributor.

Incidentally, if you check 'refund' rather than replacement, would they send you a refund -- esp. if the box is already opened? I've never tried that, since I've always wanted a replacement copy thus far.

Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!

Scott, you're right about Amazon (exchange policy). imo, it's one of the best out there. It's the reason that I buy about 95-98% of my DVD's at Amazon (except for that famous DD sale going on now )

Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!

I agree about Amazon as well. I was worried that they wouldn't replace my defective Outer Limits set, even though I had it over 90 days after I purchased it, but they did. I just swapped out the bad disc because I didn't want to re-watch the whole series again (I had bought the whole series in a bundle pack and Amazon re-sent me all 3 Vol.s) because of one disc in season 3.I'm very happy with Amazon. I've never had a problem with any Mission: Impossible discs.

Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!

Jeff and Ron,

Yeah, Amazon.com's reputation seems to be generally positive.

I own the first two seasons of Mission: Impossible!. They didn't go to flippers for subsequent seasons, did they? I don't often hear of disc freezing problems with non-flipper discs.

Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!

No flippers for any of the 4 seasons. Amazon is the main etailer I buy box sets from for the exchange reason. They are great, whereas DeepDiscount (even with a box set) makes you ship the set back first & then ships your replacement so there is no chance to swap out a lone defective disc.

Ouch! I won't be using DeepDiscount any time soon. Thanks for that info.

Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!

I'm glad to see season 5 is coming out October 7.

Mission: Impossible DVD news: Announced for Mission: Impossible - The Complete 5th Season | TVShowsOnDVD.com

It will be interesting to see Lesley Ann Warren and Sam Elliot on the show, I don't remember ever seeing these episodes. I didn't like reading that Elliot trades off Appearances with Peter Lupus. I really like the character of Willie and am always disappointed when Willie or any of the other main characters aren't in an episode. Anyways, I'm definitely going to pick up this set and I like the purple box art.

Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!

hopefully they'll wrap up the series before summer 2009. Then they can come out with the Complete Collection for Christmas with a bonus DVD containing all the stuff we were hoping to see.

Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!

I'm guessing we won't see CBS/Paramount release the final seventh season until autumn 2009, similar to the release of season five on R1. Season 6 in which Lynda Day George joined the main cast I think will be released around April/May 2009 (season four came out around that time this year).

I thought they would have put Sam Elliot on the front cover artwork for the fifth season boxset. And that image of Peter Graves looks like it's from the sixth or seventh season because his hairstyle is more like the bowl haircut look he had around the time of the last two seasons and in the film Airplane! in 1980. There's a season six/seven picture of Peter Graves on the front cover of the Complete Mission: Impossible Dossier book. His hairstyle looks like the one he has on the front cover artwork for the fifth season R1 boxset.

Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!

Having finished the INVADERS season one I am now coun ting on my MI sets to hold me over until INVADERS S2.

Right now I have 7 episodes to go in season onhe (just watched the one with Ricardo Montalban!). I never saw season one when growing up so these non Peter Graves shows are a treat!

Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!

Wow, haven't checked in here for a while. Gotta preorder at Amazon if S5 is available there now. Just got an email today that they got my return of the defective box. Disc 6 was perfect in the replacement set (& all the rest were perfect from the original set they sent). Amazon is the best etailer to buy box sets fom for sure. S5 comes out just before my birthday (so ya'll know what to get me).

Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!

I watched the season one episode THE TRAIN last night (final episode on disc six) and it's my favorite so far. Only four more episodes till Peter Graves!

Carabimero,

That's also one of my favorites. The fake train ride is quite convincing. I love the slip-up roughly two-thirds through the episode. I can't recall if it's when someone is seen through the window, or maybe it was when those pumps failed, but it was touch-and-go there for a while!

Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!

The only flaw I could see was when Bill Windom was sitting looking out the window--wouldn't he be able if he looked sideways to see that the perspective of the landscape didn't change as it should, or at the very least see the joints in the screens? But that didn't matter to me. I totally bought it. Loved it. Watching an episode a night right now and still haven't seen one I remember from childhood.

Carabimero,

Which episode do you recall from childhood that you have yet to see? BTW, I think my personal favorites are The Mind of Stephan Miklos, Operation Rogosh, and Live Bait. I also love so many others....

Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!

I'm not sure I can tell you until I see it. But I have only two episodes left before season two!

Glad there's someone here to chat about MI with.

Wasn't this an episode in Season 3?

Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!

I rented the first disc of season 4 with Nimoy from Netflix. Yea, something is gone, for me anyway. Try as i may, i just cant get into it after Landau and Bain left. The first 4 episodes of season 4 are not bad, but i have seen it all before on season 1-3. Add to that, dammit, i see Spock, not Paris. He even does the eye brow thing!

Rick,

Yeah, it's tough for me to get by Nimoy as anyone other than Spock as well. I watched an episode of Columbo (A Stitch In Crime, I believe it's called) recently. Spock plays a doctor (and the murderer) in that one. It's so hard for me to look past his Trek character, no matter how hard I try.

Off topic, but i love Columbo too. Only since i am in the medical field i had a "little' cringe moment with the ending.

I dont know if i have ever seen the last 2 seasons of M:I, as i never have made it past the Nimoy years. I might have to check them out, when they come out.

Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!

I'm about to go watch the last two episodes of season one; if I can stay up long enough I really want to watch the first episode of season two.

Rick,

I really appreciate those Columbo episodes where he almost did not solve the case. A Stitch In Crime (got the title right this time!) was one of those. He walks out of the office, and you think Nimoy has it won.

Even rarer are those times when Columbo solves the case and then lets the murderer go free. I can think of only one time this happened, although there may have been more than one.

Carabimero,

Did you watch these after all? Are you speaking of The Traitor and The Psychic? I love The Psychic.

Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!

Yes those are the exact two episodes I watched and yes, I liked The Psychic a lot too. Looking forward to starting season two tonight!
