Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!

Now look at season three (I've only checked disc four as a random sample). When the star's picture appears, notice that the film grain dances around the way it's supposed to, making it more natural in appearance.
I'm happy about this, as the freeze frame video technique always bothered me a bit. |
Great observation, Harry. I'll have to look more closely at that tonight. The main thing I noticed was that the shot for Barbara Bain is more flattering in S3 when compared with S1-2.
The last episode I watched on this set was "The Execution" and though quite riveting, I'm not sure I would rate it as highly as the author of the companion guide to M:I. For one thing, writer William Read Woodfield, who had prior written a book focusing on a death row inmate, "stacks the deck" rather strongly where his views on capital punishment are concerned.
A bit of a disagreement on the season by season quality thing. I still prefer S1 as it just seems more stylish and less sluggish where pacing is concerned. I especially enjoyed how missions were often tailored to 2 or 3 individuals (excepting Briggs). Steven Hill's somewhat stodgy persona nonwithstanding, I've still not seen anything that quite lives up to "Operation: Rogosh", "A Spool There Was" and "The Carriers" (though S2's "The Town" and "The Seal" were quite spiffy). But I must confess I'm greatly looking forward to "The Mind of Stefan Miklos" in S3.
