If the item has indeed been removed entirely from the search results, then that's very likely due to another factor.

Well Dave, I guess you'll have to just contact Target and See heh? If the Toshiba's are not showing up at the Costco website either, then it is likely a supply problem. Look, why would anyone seriously think Target has dropped HD-DVD when they CLEARLY stated in their press release that their website will carry the HD-DVD players? Honestly, since Brett first raised this issue, he really should've contacted Target first before stirring the pot.

Good Grief!?!

Reggie,

the minimum-wage worker answering telephone calls at 1-800-Target is hardly the source to trust for information about Target's HD DVD/BD policy.

"Good Grief"

What I said was perfectly reasonable... that most online retailers don't entirely remove products from their on-line catalog just because stock runs out. I didn't propose any hard-conclusions, just pointed to some possibilities.

And one could argue this thread is in no small part (all) about pot stirring.

It seems to me that as the third gen Toshiba players are coming out in 2 months that the second gen players are simply becoming no longer available. It's a discontinued item. The same thing happened last year with the first gen players.

Aha, so it's as simple as a discontinued model soon to be replaced by a new model?

That would make perfect sense.

Re: Blu-ray / HD DVD War...the end is near:

It could be a lot of things. But this is plausible because stores like Target and Wal-Mart have the kind of pull to ship unsold stock back to the manufacturer, which would explain their complete disappearance from the Web site seemingly overnight.

There is no reason to believe Target's HD/BD policy has changed since Sony purchased their "endcap" two weeks ago. That "minimum wage worker" may be able to tell you why the Toshiba's are not CURRENTLY listed on their website. They don't have to know anything at all regarding HD/BD policy.

I really think people are reading FAR to much into this.

New here? Seriously though, this situation should sort itself out in due time.

My friend Isaac pushes carts and works the Food Avenue section.

Do you want me to call him up?

Or does anyone want his number personally? I'm offering.
