HTF REVIEW: Batman Begins - Two Disc Deluxe Edition (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED). - Page 10

Mike, in what way are they faulty?

Gear mentioned in this thread:

I read on another forum that the rumour is that the comic is the problem. A licensing issue. At first that seems odd if they planned in advance to purposely add the comic...they would have handled this beforehand. Then again the Punisher ran into licensing issues for Canada and couldn't be included with the movie at the last minute.

This would nicely explain why new/future copies of Begins will be sans comic, and why suddenly Warner has seemed to have stopped shipping the old ones out.

This seems more plausible than the rumour about the missing commentary.

As an aside, for those in Toronto, the Future Shop by the old Stockyards at Keele St and St Clair West still has a _huge_ stack of the two disc versions, nicely displayed by the front door. I figure that there were maybe 40-50 there all told.

still listed at columbishouse. dont know if it'll ship tho'

Why hasn't any DVD site said anything about the shortage? I am surprised that not a one has said anything.

I purchased mine on release day at Borders near where I live. Only cost me $22.99 and was the same price over at Circuit City after trying there first. Haven't watched it yet though but will when I get around to it. The comic has a little paper denoting the correct credits for the mini-comic. Maybe they're just recalling it so it's actually in the comic and not a little blurb thing?
The actual printed credits in the mini-comic are accurate to the credits published within the comics themselves. However, there seems to have been an additional uncredited writer on the original Bob Kane Batman story, and the card was included to address that. Since they got the card into the initial pressings of the set, I find it hard to believe that the studio would recall the whole batch just to reprint the thing with revised credits. I took a trip around town during my lunch break today (searching in vain for the three-disc 'Wizard of Oz'), and i saw only ONE copy of the two-disc at a local record shop. The whole thing is certainly a bit puzzling.

EDIT: Amazon does indeed look to be transitioning from the "Special Edition with Comic" to a "Two-Disc Special Edition." I smell an unforeseen rights issue.

I just bought the last copy of the 2-Disc version WITH THE COMIC at my local Wal-Mart. Life is Grand.
Just an update: Last night at my local Wal-Mart, they had some copies of the deluxe edition still on the racks....
I lucked-out when I got mine. It was the last copy of the Deluxe Edition with the comic and the (very nice) lenticular cover at my local Best Buy.
Are the two discers that hard top find? You think sotres would have ordered more of the two-disc set than the one disc alternative, especially if they would be charging the same price in the majority of stores for either copies.
I think the two disc was $4 or $5 more at most stores (the Best Buy and Wal Mart in my area had the one disc for $16 and the two disc for $20) so I'm sure the one disc outsold the two disc.
If you go into a store that has a separate "New Releases" section and you don't see the Deluxe Batman be sure to go look in the normal Action/Sci-Fi/Whatever section under "B". That's where I found mine at Best Buy after noticing it was missing from their main Batman/New Releases displays.

Most stores fill up the New Releases rack then put the overflow back in the section where they'll eventually end up.

I was just at Costco at lunch, and they had plenty of them.

two issues :

1 they are selling sealed copies that when opened are covered in scratches.
Really deep and frequent scratches on both discs im guessing there is a fault with the amrays.

2 the glue that holds the 2 layers has seeped thro the second layer i saw this on my brothers copy and my 2 of my friend's
my friends copies also were scratched.

upon return one friend made the assistant open 12 copies all faulty until he found a mint one.

Thanks Mike. Ouch. I hope it doesn't happen over here. I still haven't picked up my copy yet.

Mike - just curious:

where in sw UK are you located?

I've been to England 5 times in the last 7 years, and most of the time was spent in the southwest... gorgeous!!!

Thanks!

DVDAficianado and dvdlist both list it as now Discontinued.
I couldn't find a copy of it at a local store. I will have to keep trying.

Max: FWIW I was doing my DVD shopping in the dregs of the TO burbs last night, and I did not see a single copy of the Deluxe, nor a space for it in the places that still had special BB displays. Apparently many FS elsewhere in real TO have it (useless to you), and amazon.ca still offers it, whether the comic is included is unknown.

Yippee--I'm one of the lucky ones. I bought a single disc dition at Walmart the other day and then discovered -oh damn-that's not what I wanted--I wanted the deluxe set. When wifey returned it for me they wanted to just exchange it--lucily pukemart wa sout of widescreen editions and had no deluxe--so a refund was had.

Returning from my mountain bike outing at Timberline above Makakilo today, I decided to stop in at the Borders in Waikele--eureka! I got the last deluxe set they had--$22.95.

Mine also has the comic with the "revised credits" paper slipped in the back cover.

My Best Buy street date Deluxe Edition with lenticular has no additional piece of paper in the comic or anywhere else.
I work at my local Shopko part time, and they still have several copies available, 2-disc with comic book, and its still on sale at $20.
I just checked at my local Best Buy, and they were well re-stocked with the 2-discers, sans comic book or slipcase (lenticular or not). So, the issue of contention seems to have been the comic book. My question is, how could there possibly be a rights issue with anything Batman coming from Warner?!? Since they own DC Comics in the first place, don't they already own all the rights?
maybe no rights issue but possibly they don't want the added expense of including the comic book

That's my take on it. First come first serve on the special book.
So it's true then, the comic book is coming out of the set. I noticed a couple local places restocked on the Deluxe in the last few days, and they still have the comic ("bilingual" package) but at a highish price...luckily it's easy to see the comic.

Ugh. What a horrible movie.
