HTF REVIEW: Batman Begins - Two Disc Deluxe Edition (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED). - Page 9

Well, in the Chappelle's Show example, Pretty much all the online retailers, including Amazon were out of stock as well.

This seems to indicate an actual shortage of product in the pipeline rather than a retailer ordering issue.

Yes, but the amount of copies that WB runs depends on how much they project that they are going to sell. Or perhaps their first run could have been based on actual orders from retailers.

If it is a case of underprojected demand (which, obviously, I am betting on) I wonder who screwed up, WB or the retailers underordering.

It will be interesting to see if similar problems happen with "The Wizard of Oz" Three disc set this week.

Gear mentioned in this thread:

Since we're talking literally dozens of different retailers, I'd be willing to bet that it was WB who missed the mark. Chances are pretty slim that all of these different businesses would come to the same conclusion and make the same ordering decision on the Deluxe Edition.

I wouldn't say that is necessairly so. I would imagine that the puchasing depts. of many of these retailers are run in a similar manner, by similar types of people. No reason to think that sales projections made by one retailer, and thereby actual orders would be vastly different from another.

But then again, I don't know exactly how the purchasing/manufacturing process works. Do studios run production based on orders from retailers, or do studios do their own projections on how much they believe titles will sell and run production based off that?

I don't know the answer to that question either. Maybe someone in the know will chime in and enlighten us.
The brief answer to that question is it is a little of both
the studios have their initial projections and then as retail orders come in they can gage where they are going to wind up.

I don't want to make any assumptions but looking at what I have seen/heard in the market makes it hard to believe that WB didn't choose themselves to allocate a larger amount of stock to BB b&m (who was doing a cover exclusive) and a larger amount to Amazon for online sales

Retailers must be savy enough to know that a major release such as this would demand that they come in heavy for the DE
especially when the difference in list price $28.98 single disc/30.98 2 disc set is negligable. Unless there was some massive discount given out to retailers for the single disc version there is no reason there should be so much of that version sitting at retail.

More might be known if and when restocking of this title happens at the stores that ran out. But almost a week after street and not having seen replenishment makes one wonder if no more is coming.

Deep Discount DVD doesn't even *list* the Deluxe Edition.

I got mine delivered from Deep Discount DVD last Tuesday, so they must have pulled the listing. I'm really curious as to what is going on. The quality of the film was fine; perhaps it's the poorly thought out ergonomics of the bonus disc.

someone just posted the following at dvdtalk

Quote:
The 2-Disc Edition is out again with a new UPC [012569746923]. I can not verify if this one has the comic book or not....

The new listing for this at DVD Planet states that the comic book is not included.
might be a sign of things to come
shows an 11/8 coming soon street date (sans comic as mentioned above)

i found the comic book very poor.
Only one chapter of the long Halloween ????
Interesting, MatS--thanks for relaying that info.

I wonder if Warner planned the comic book as a limited edition supplement all along, or if this is another Warner rights snafu a la the Deluxe Limited Edition Shawshank . . .?

C'mon, the full book is close to 400 pages.
Yeah, the comic book was meant to entice you to go out and buy the full sory of The Long Halloween. NO way will WB reproduce a 400 page book and give it away.

Just watched the movie last night and even on the laptop I had to view it on it was fantastic. Beautiful picture. Absolutely flawless.

I can't wait to put this on a real tv.
I don't have time to go through 9 pages of threads. But, is their a reason it was pulled?
I can't speak for other Best Buy locations, but the one near me had restocks of the DE on the shelves this morning sans lenticular image on the slipcase.

My assumption is that the copies with the lenticular image had a very limited print run and/or were under-ordered by the B&M locations, and were sold out rather quickly (at least in central Ohio).

Does anyone have a complete list of easter eggs found on the second disc?
Although they'll prolly talk more about The Weather Man, figured I'd mention that Michael Caine is skedded to be on Charlie Rose tonight.

"Neva,"

P.S. - Bob Wright is also skedded--maybe he'll talk about GE's possible acquisition of DreamWorks.

Trippy.

Amazon still has it listed.

Wonder if I should go buy multiple copies at Costco.

Is it only because the comic book isn't included anymore?

On a previous thread page somebody said that was an official studio "limited" item. As opposed to the lenticular cover which was "non-studio" (i.e. retailer-specific, BB and affiliates).

Would make me careful to order this online, I notice lots don't mention the comic, but also lots do...(use a trustworthy site, those in Canada know who I don't mean...).

Well I ordered the 2 disc with Book from amazon. Kinda pissed because it went up from 15.99 to 19.99 but still not bad.
Whew!! Boy, I'm glad I bought mine. Even though I gave my business to Wal-Mart.
It was listed backordered on CC website the day it was released. Also, bestbuy.com doesn't have it listed anymore either. What the hell is going on?

btw, sure glad I picked my copy up on the street date...
Already have mine too but just did some looking and no one appears to have it either. I checked dvdpricesearch.com. Looks like this was either "limited"...for sure or retailers ran out...or was pulled. Captain obvious there.

I put in an order for it last night. Added two-day shipping so that they would hopefully ship it out before they ran out of copies.

A couple of minutes ago I checked the Amazon.comwebsite and now it's no longer available. My order says it's preparing to be shipped, but they charged my account already.

I am very curious as to what is really going on.
I went to Best Buy today, and I noticed that aside from the BB 2 disc edition being sold out, the Wizard of Oz 3 Disc edition was also sold out.

I'm guessing that in both instances, Warners underetimated the demand for the deluxe editions for both films.
They are releasing a 2 disc set sans comic book with a different catalog number from what I've figured. Glad I got my order. They shipped yesterday.

the uk still has the 2 disc with the fancy slipcase but only in hmv but many are faulty
post #270 of 436
Nick: I don't see that the title is no longer available from Amazon. -p
