TNA Impact! - Page 15

Re: TNA Impact!

This is only slightly related to TNA but good god UFC was awesome on Saturday night.

Here is my live as it happened coverage of the show.

Here is the aftermath column I wrote once it was all over.

The Christian/Samoa Joe match was actually pretty good on Impact.

Re: TNA Impact!

It was a good show. One of those times when Russo's writing helps out.

So there's another surprise for this week's Impact. I wonder if he'll have a longer role with TNA.

In my write-up I didn't rant on how stupid this was nearly enough.

First, you have 2 guys having a match where they are fighting over a belt that neither is the rightful owner of.

Second, you have a match that they say isn't a match just a fight so that nobody's win streak can be ended. Then, in the next breath you have the explanation of how you win this fight even though winning doesn't count.

Third, you give away Christian and Samoa Joe in a ladder match away on free TV.

Forth, you have 2 guys who are supposed to be in a fight not a wrestling match, cause you know, the commentary and Christian's interview didn't beat us to death with this info nearly enough, and in this fight, they are trading restholds.

Fifth, you have this going on and then 4 other guys run out and start doing stuff. If anyone was allowed to run in and go for the belt why did those guys wait so long? Oh and if anyone could run in to take the belt where was Jeff Jarrett?

And just in case you think I read too much in to that segment, and that none of what I wrote matters in the grand scheme of things well...
1. People in WCW used to think the same way, look at where that got them.
2. Compare and contrast this with your basic set-up for a title match in UFC and then look at how UFC is doing on PPV as compared to WWE and especially TNA. Then look at how UFC did in males 18-34 last week for the Tito/Shamrock fight and how in those demos the fight beat baseball.
You don't need to out think your audience and confuse them to get them interested. That's the best way to get them to change the channel.

I'll tell you what I did like about impact. The Samoa Joe promo was good until we started setting up fights with no rules that had rules. Jeff Jarrett only being in one segment on the show and only having 1 line was a nice change. The LAX/Styles and Daniels brawl was also pretty good. There were other stupid things on the show, Hoyt/Killings Vs Diamonds, Kevin Nash, X-division jobber match but that main event stole the show for me. The match itself was pretty good but it had no business being on that show.

What did you guys think of the Angle interview?

Re: TNA Impact!

You're right. Things are just getting out of hand over there. That's too bad because this company and its roster has potential.

Angle sounded very sincere. The one thing I didn't get was his own hype about "if you think you've seen Angle before, you've seen nothing yet". I really don't know how much more Angle can give us. He gave it his all during his WWE days. Truly one of the few wrestlers whose intensity was incredible at every single match. Let's hope TNA puts him to good use.

Re: TNA Impact!

When I heard that comment from Angle, I got very afraid for the reasons you just gave.

Re: TNA Impact!

Just listened to Angle being interviewed by Bubba The Love Sponge on Sirius Satellite. Very, very interesting interview.

Among other things, he talked about how he tried to talk to Vince about some ideas he had to sell more of his merchandise in order to make more money. He refered to John Cena and Rey Mysterio making tons of money with their merchandise but Vince pretty much shut him down and told him that all the money he was going to make was going to be from his wrestling.

He talked about TNA going primetime sometime in November and how it was going to be the number 1 promotional wrestling company in about 2 years.

He also talked about being approached by UFC to fight for them. He said he wanted to do it and even TNA wanted to do it as a cross-promotion but Dana White (president of UFC) wanted him to be with them exclusively. Angle says he's still trying to work that out with them and said he'd be interested in fighting Chuck Ledell. He said he could take Ledell as long as he could bring him to the ground because he would have no chance trading blows standing with him.

Personally that'd be great to watch and would mean lots of cash for the UFC from such a PPV.

All in all, a great interview. Angle was very relaxed and very real. He wants to do a weekly interview with Bubba in order to promote TNA on Bubba's radio show.

Chuck Liddell would kill Angle six ways to dead.

Re: TNA Impact!

I didn't get to see the show this week but I saw the Joe/Angle segment online. It was really good. Angle's entrance is cool.

I think I'll order the PPV tonight. The lineup doesn't impress me, but it is an eventful show.

Re: TNA Impact!

Well, if it makes you feel any better, LAX Vs. Styles and Daniels should be awesome in all kinds of ways, and you should get another confrontation between Samoa Joe and Kurt Angle.

Roundtable Preview Bound for Glory 2006

I think its one of the better previews out there and not just because I wrote 1/4 of it.

As a reminder, I will be doing live coverage of BFG for those not interested in ordering the show but want to keep track of it.

Now that its in the books see my thoughts

Those are different than the live updates I did.

The short of it is that I liked a lot more on this show than I didn't, and a lot more than I have on recent TNA PPV's.

Re: TNA Impact!

I didn't like the show much, except for the tag title match, X-Division title, and the Angle and Joe segment. The rest of the show just felt really off. Things weren't clicking at all. They need to get rid of Russo, even his little things can ruin a show.

Re: TNA Impact!

Well, the X-gauntlet match was not as bad as I feared I'll leave it up to the reader to decide what that means.

The 4-way tag match was symbolic of all that is wrong with TNA.

Monsters Ball...well, the less said about this match the better.

Larry Z Vs. Eric Young, at least it was short.

Joe/Angle confrontation: Well, this started a turnaround for this show.

Senshi/Chris Sabin: My new match of the night, this was fantastic from bell to bell. They started out slowly and built up and they had a tired crowd at the start and they were hot by the end, big thumbs up for this.

Rhino/Christian: Main thing I didn't like was Christian's no-sell or very-little sell of the piledriver.

LAX/Styles/Daniels: Well, this was a weird match. I really liked this match on initial viewing but there is a lot of silliness that took place. They had a straight tag match, inside a cage and when weapons were used Don West was talking about the ref not seeing it. Then it broke down to a 4-way with no rules enforcement. I don't know what the explanation for that one is but in a way I can't fault them too hard because the match itself was pretty good but the question of why this played out the way it did is unanswered.

Sting/Jarrett: Not good, until the last minute. That was the right finish and it was a perfect finish and its about freaking time.

TNA iMPACT Spoilers

This may be the greatest day of my entire life all because of these spoilers. I seriously can not wait to recap these 2 programs.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Just to watch them complicate a tournament well beyond my wildest imagination will make it worth while.

Re: TNA Impact!

Watched the PPV replay last night and I agree with you guys. The X-division match and the LAX/Styles-Daniels match were the best of the night. The main event was a bit slow but it was good to see Sting with his old makeup, in better shape and trying his best.

And yes, it's about time he got the belt.

OCC iMPACT recap 10/26/2006

This was an awful show. Terrible on every level, I may never recover from that tournament.

Re: TNA Impact!

After last night's iMPACT I got an idea and this is the result. I'd very much like for you guys to check it out and give me feedback good or bad. I want to see if I am more creative than Vince Russo.

Re: TNA Impact!

Well, TNA released the horribly named Best of the X-Division Vol. 2 on 10/31. Its horribly named because its the third volume, don't ask.

Anyway, I of course picked it up and realized that I had a lot of TNA DVDs that I haven't watched yet. I also realized that people seem to enjoy my reviews of TNA stuff for some weird reason.

So: take a look at the list and leave your votes I hope that in the coarse of a very long period of time I cover them all.

Re: TNA Impact!

TNA iMPACT for 11/02/2006

This is a downer of a recap but that's not really TNA's fault. On a different day and under different conditions I might've enjoyed this show a little more or at least parts of it.

Re: TNA Impact!

What's up with Styles winning the X-Division title like that? I mean, don't get me wrong, A.J is da man and it's very cool that he has a belt but they should've reserve that to a PPV or something.

The rest of the show was just ok.

Well, if you didn't like that then you're probably not going to want to click the spoiler box.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
AJ Styles is expected to drop the title in a match taped tonight that will air on the Prime Time debut on 11/16. He will then in all likelyhood face Christian Cage at Genesis

11/09/2006 iMPACT recap

Not a great show, not a bad show, it was just sort of there. In other words it was my least favorite kind of show.
