Re: TNA Impact!

I liked the Kevin Nash segment. The dude can actually be funny.

Re: TNA Impact!

Kevin Nash had a few segments when he went to WCW in the mid90s that I remember being absolutely hysterical.

Re: TNA Impact!

Good main event. It had a special big feel to it that TNA doesn't have often with its matches.

Is it fair to say Nash is the funniest wrestler ever? I can't really think of anyone else right now.

While you can make an argument for Nash, I would also submit The Rock and Mick Foley for consideration and given enough time, Eric Young.

While Nash is definitely funny, I would argue that his humor has not always been the best thing for the feuds he's in, IMO his treating the X-division as a joke is a really bad thing.

Rock and Foley could be funny but knew when to take their opponents seriously, wrestling to Nash is one big joke, and while that makes him funny it also brings with it a certain amount of harm.

If you want another example, look at it this way, Nash is supposed to be the heel in this X-division feud. He acts like a heel, he attacks downed opponents but because he cuts promos saying that he's never heard of any of the X-division wrestlers and because he treats them all as a joke, at Slammiversary, he was cheered and Chris Sabin was booed. That's not the way this angle should have ever gone and why I went from thinking it wasn't horrible to thinking that TNA needs to stop this angle before the whole X-division is rendered a joke in the eyes of all of the fans, and if you think that's an extreme thought, I point you back to what I just said about the Nash Sabin match.

Re: TNA Impact!

I forgot about The Rock, but I never really liked Foley's humor. I don't think Nash ever got to be funny in WWE, unless you count that time when he returned from his injury and reinjured himself that same show.

I didn't mind Sabin being booed at the PPV. He was given time to talk during the feud, and unfortunately, wasn't able to deliver at all on the mic, thereby making him look really weak against Nash.

That Rhino video was awesome. Love the passion he's showing in TNA.

Austin Aries is back. I hope he avoids any more problems with TNA, as I think he could be one of their biggest stars.

^ I was very happy to read that Aries is finally coming back after his never-ending suspension. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Roderick Strong is done with TNA, which is a pity.

Strong is finished? What happened? I really enjoyed watching those two guys wrestle.

The contracts of Aries and Strong expired, Aries chose to re-up and Strong decided against it.

Even if Sabin had cut 0 promos he was going to get booed because Nash portrays himself as something cooler than the whole x-division. BTW, saying Sabin had promo time and didn't use it is hardly fair, he had 1 thirty second promo whereas Nash got to cut a promo or have a backstage segment every week, it was hardly even.

Nash could've acted in a way that would get Sabin cheered, he chose not to do so. Nash hasn't acted even remotely threatened in this feud, its all been funny ha ha with the jokes, but its coming at the expense of an entire division and one of the stars of that division.

In some other TNA news, the push of the Naturals may end before it begins. TNA wanted to give the team a completely new look which included new ring gear and haircuts. Andy Douglas (the dark haired Natural) balked at cutting his hair and it is not known how this will be resolved.

The woman with AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels will go by the name Sirelda.

Homicide has signed a long-term contract with TNA.

Bound for Glory will be billed as TNA's biggest event to date, it will air 10/22 and could be the first monthly PPV outside of Orlando, likely in Detroit.

Bobby Roode and Traci Brooks may be put together soon.

SoCal Val, TNA's ring girl has been asked to pose for playboy she is mulling over the offer.

Projected Line-up for Victory Road
*Road to Victory Match: Sting Vs. Christian Vs. Samoa Joe Vs. Scott Steiner
Winner will face Jeff Jarrett at the Hard Justice PPV, not later in the evening as originally proposed.
*Americas Most Wanted & Gail Kim Vs. AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels & Sirelda for the NWA World Tag Team Titles.
*Team 3D Vs. The James Gang & Abyss
*Kevin Nash & Alex Shelley Vs. Chris Sabin & Jay Lethal
*Hair match: Raven Vs. Larry Zbysko
*Homicide Vs. Ron Killings
*X-Division Title: Senshi Vs. ??? (possibly a multi-man match)
*Diamonds in the Rough Vs. The Naturals

I'm not a fan of this line-up necessarily. Its not that I think this will be bad, but there is not enough singles matches on the show. The X-title match, the 6 person tag and Homicide/Truth should be good. The 4-way should be ok, the Team 3D match should have some crazy spots, and I'd rather it be Devine and not Nash in the tag match but this feud must continue for some bass ackwards logic.

If I had to guess at Senshi's opponent/opponents, I'd say Sonjay Dutt for sure will be involved, probably Petey Williams as well, outside shot for Austin Aries and Puma, Eric Young would be fun as well.

8 matches on the show, with 1 of them, probably Raven's going short makes me wonder if we won't see something between Monty Brown and Rhino either an angle or match as neither are currently booked to wrestle on the show.

In other notes, TNA has talked of bringing back Frankie Kazarian to team with Matt Bentley once again.

As an aside comment, I really like what TNA might have for a strong tag Division if they keep things up.

Champions: AJ Styles & Christopher Daniels
Top Contenders, Americas Most Wanted, Team 3D, The James Gang
Second Level Contenders: LAX, Diamonds in the Rough, The Naturals
New Teams: Sabin/Lethal, Shelley/Devine & possibly even Dutt/Killings.
A power team of A-1 and Lance Hoyt wouldn't be the worst idea.

Looking at the heavyweight division, you've got:
Champion: Jeff Jarrett
Top Contenders: Sting, Christian, Scott Steiner, Samoa Joe
Second Tear: Rhino, Monty Brown, Abyss, Ron Killings, Raven
Future Potential: Bobby Roode

In the X-division
Champion: Senshi
Top Contenders: Sonjay Dutt, Chris Sabin, Alex Shelley, Jay Lethal, Petey Williams
Second Level: Matt Bentley, Austin Aries, Puma
Re-introduced to the division: Eric Young, Johnny Devine, Homicide
Good for a squash match: Shark Boy, Jerrelle Clark

You can periodically toss AJ Daniels and Joe in to that mix, but those 3 are being booked out of the X-division for now.

Re: TNA Impact!

Casey, I understand your point of view.

The thing that stood out about the Naturals when I first saw them was their look.

I'm not interested in the next PPV that much either. The match I'm most interested in seeing is, surprisingly, Team 3D vs. James Gang and Abyss. Jon, you might want to skip this PPV.

As I mentioned in the past, I love how strong the divisions in TNA are.

TNA has the unedited video of Rhino on their site: http://www.tnawrestling.com/fullnews.php?home=742

"I forgot about The Rock, but I never really liked Foley's humor."

I found the reverse to be true. I tired of the Rocks routine really quickly.

I always found Kurt Angle to be funny when he wanted to be.

A fav I remember from him was when Rey Mysterio pinned him on Smackdown and during the post match interview he stood there with a look of amazment on his face and blurted out "I just got beat by a freakin 12year old."

Re: TNA Impact!

In the Observer I got this evening, I read about how TNA isn't happy with the Sabin/Nash thing either because Sabin isn't getting over to the degree they expected. Meltzer's exact words? "Gee, I wonder why?" There is talk of shifting the focus from Sabin to Alex Shelley and having him do something with Nash down the line, but it is just talk at this point.

Shelley is doing well enough being alongside Nash.

Re: TNA Impact!

Austin Aries, when he returns to TNA will be using the name Austin Star. This is so TNA can have ownership of the name and use it as they wish, and so that Aries can still have ownership of the name he used to make a name for himself on the independant scene. TNA may start to do this with other talent as they have already done with Senshi.

Re: TNA Impact!

A couple of news bits.

Apparently, the promo and segment with Rhino tomorrow is a must see. Why do I think it will lead to a discussion of whether its a good idea to do what they're going to do? That's ok, as I'm all for a discussion.

In other news, related to Sunday's PPV according to Mike Johnson of PWInsider Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Frankie Kazarian
will be returning to the company to reunite with his former tag team partner in TNA Matt Bentley.

Good show.

I really liked the PPV hype. The videos with the wrestlers were nice and I wouldn't mind seeing them continue doing that for the pre-PPV Impact.

Senshi looked really good.

My recording missed the begining of Rhino's segment. I thought it was good and I'm digging this new Rhino.

Good but too short.

Great but short. I thought AJ was really impressive, he was performing all these moves and had this really great flow going.

Any other matches between those two? They worked as well together as any two can.

They worked each other at the Genesis PPV last November in a match that was probably better than the Victory Road match.

They along with Chris Sabin worked in an Ultimate X match at the Final Resolution 2005 PPV which was ****1/4 or higher.

Re: TNA Impact!

Tonight's PPV was definitely a show. This post may contain spoilers, so read at your own risk.

This was an interesting PPV in terms of how I feel about it.

The good: The booking made sense, the right people went over, all the finishes were clean, we only had interference in 1 match and it didn't lead to the finish immediately. These are all positive things about this show.

The Less than good: The Team Canada fairwell could've been shorter and saved for Impact, the PPV contained no outstanding wrestling. Let me say that the wrestling on this show was fine, perfectly acceptable in a lot of ways, but it lacked that 1 awesome match that makes a person say to their friends, you need to get a replay for this match.

The main event was good, the 6 person tag team title match was great when it was the guys and not so much when the women were in, they drug it down but not to the point of it being horrible.

I give the show a slight thumbs up. I liked last month's show better because while we got more interference and the booking wasn't as logical, there was some better wrestling and I say that not really being a fan to the finish last month.

The booking earns a thumbs up, the wrestling gets a thumbs in the middle and so that leads to a thumbs slightly up.

Re: TNA Impact!

Sounds like a thumbs down show to me.

Team Canada segment sounded good to me. I read Eric Young was really good.

How was Steiner? I read he messed up on a few moves but he did something like an elbow through a table.

This segment was the low-point of the show, it went way too long. Eric Young was good, but this could've been a lot shorter and on Impact.

Yes, Steiner did an elbow through a table.

I think I need to reconsider my best match, as it was probably LAX and Killings/Dutt. Hernandez especially looked good.

I can't give this show a thumbs down because the right people went over in every match, and yes that includes Sting.

Here's why it was better for Sting to win than Samoa Joe.

Everybody wants to see Samoa Joe as champion, this is true. But, what do you do after you put the title on him? So, sure they could've had Joe win this match and beat Jarrett next month for the belt, but then that's not much of a chase and the money is in the chase.
Sting went over last night, then next month you can have Sting beat Jarrett for the title, or have Christian turn on Sting and cost him the title. I prefer the second scenario actually.
Then in September you do Sting and Christian and do something to make it clear that Samoa Joe gets the shot at Bound for Glory in October. Now, if you didn't see the PPV last night, they announced that BFG would be in Detroit making it the first PPV to be held outside of Orlando. This is important because now they can charge admission to the show. So, you get people to pay to see Joe chase the title and you send them home happy with a win. If Joe were to have won last night and won the belt next month, then BFG would be just another title defense for him and ask yourself what's the better draw? Joe challenging for the belt for the first time, or Joe defending the belt for the second or third time?

Now as for why it had to be Sting, it is because if it were Steiner then you can't do Joe/Steiner 2 next month. If it were Christian you'd be taking away all his reasons for turning heel. So Sting was hands down the right choice last night.

only Sting could agree or turn that offer down. Sting came out and said that TNA is the top promotion and he wouldn't give Christian an answer because
he had to think about it.

Xplosion:

*Sonjay Dutt & Chris Sabin defeated Senshi & Petey Williams.

*Ron Killings defeated A1.

Re: TNA Impact!

Just got a chance to watch last week's IMPACT and I must say that Rhino promo is one of the best I've seen in years. Such passion and best thing is how he directed all his comments at McMahon and the WWE. I don't believe anyone from TNA has ever done this right?

What do you guys think is going to happen now that TNA is acknowledging the WWE directly? Will we have another "war" similar to the one they had with WCW?

Re: TNA Impact!

I don't see this turning into any kind of a Monday Night Wars repeat and for TNA's sake I hope it doesn't because they don't even have 1/4 the resources WCW had and WCW died as a result of that War.

As T said this is not the first time that TNA has taken shots at WWE, Turning Point 2004 featured skits where Vinny McDaddy and "The son-in-law" were backstage looking for a video tape that TNA had made when WWE was in Universal Studios doing a shoot for the 2005 Royal Rumble commercial and then TNA aired the video which contained general whackiness and TNA guys stealing the food from the WWE area. If I made this sound lame its because it kind of was but it was also kind of funny, especially when Vinny McDaddy got stretchered out due to an assault from a midget with a cookie sheet.
If not for Elix Skipper and his cage-walk rana and if not for the awesomeness that was that match as a whole those skits would be what I remember most about Turning Point 04.
