After many months, I finally purchased this set even though I already had some of the episodes in my collection. It ended up being released by Mill Creek Entertainment, the successor to Treeline Films but, as Brian:C correctly points out, the episodes were assembled for this collection by Synergy Entertainment whose logo is seen at the start-up of the disc. As far as the audio/visual quality of the episodes are concerned, they're strictly of the public domain variety . . . the prints are unrestored, though watchable (think Alpha Video and you'll get the picture). The introduction by Christopher Lee is the same one that appears on Madacy's collection of episodes from the same Sherlock Holmes series. It's a very "generic" introduction of the character Sherlock Holmes and I doubt that it was done specifically for this series, regardless of the releasing company (it, too, may very well be in the public domain since it's been used by more than one company).
In addition to entertaining shows and performances from the leads, the major reason to get this set is the fact that it has all 39 episodes of this 1954-55 syndicated series. No other collection of episodes from this series can make that claim. While I suppose it's possible that this series may one day get the restoration treatment, I hold no great hopes that any major restoration will occur and so this set may end up being the best we can hope for.
The 39 episodes are distributed over five DVDs and it has a suggested retail of $14.98 (I was able to pick this up at Best Buy for just $9.99). To see cover art and a little more information, go to Mill Creek's website (Scroll down):
