I was initally slightly disappointed too, but with the documentary, behind-the-scenes video and interviews, 10th anniversary reunion footage and essays in the booklet, I think there'll be plenty of cast input anyway.

Re: Dazed And Confused: Criterion?

Just had word from Criterion in response to my e-mail query that this release will have Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 soundtracks.

Re: Dazed And Confused: Criterion?

I have a sample of the Dazed And Confused packaging here and it's very nice. It's a digipack style case with an outer sleeve (similiar to Mr. Arkadin). Inside there's the folded collectible poster and the 72-page book.

Re: Dazed And Confused: Criterion?

Oooh! Can you give us a full rundown of the booklet's contents?

Re: Dazed And Confused: Criterion?

Just one month to go. I would think we'd start seeing some reviews pretty soon. That booklet sounds like it's going to be a good read and I'm glad the Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 tracks are included.

Does it really feature all of the cast members? Even Joey Lauren Adams?

No, it doesn't have everyone. I don't remember Joey Adams being interviewed. She may have been in there, I'm not sure. I can't remember if Parker Posey appeared either. Most of the major actors are there like Jason London, Wiley Wiggins, Anthony Rapp, Adam Goldberg, Sasha Jensen, Rory Cochrane, Marissa Ribisi, Nicky Katt. It's been a while since I saw the documentary so I can't remember exactly. I'm really looking forward to seeing it again though. "Making Dazed" is one of the few making-of documentaries that I could see myself watching multiple times. But that may just be because I'm a big fan of the film and of Rick Linklater.

Speaking of Dazed and Confused hotties, wasn't Catherine Morris a babe? She played Julie, the sophomore that Mitch hooked up with at the party. As I recall, she appears in the documentary too. I think she's a lesbian. Or maybe she just looked like a lesbian...

Re: Dazed And Confused: Criterion?

Joey Lauren Adams was at the 10th anniversary reunion though, of which there'll be footage on the disc.

Wiley Wiggins posted a pic of what the interior packaging looks like. Pretty sweet.

Today's the day. Anyone else got their hands on this? Mine is set to arrive in a couple of days.

Re: Dazed And Confused: Criterion?

I picked up the only copy at Best Buy during lunch. I was kind of surprised they didn't have any more.

Re: Dazed And Confused: Criterion?

Got it, though I was a bit concerned. Before I left earlier to check my local BB, I checked their online availability and it was listed as "UNAVAILABLE" to all surrounding locations. But I decided to go anyway and thankfully there was a copy, though it was the only one. This happened to me before where the new edition of "Cross of Iron" was listed as unavailable but was actually there.

Re: Dazed And Confused: Criterion?

I think whenever Best Buy's in-store inventory is down to 1 or 2, the website says "unavailable". This is to cover their a$$es in case the 1 or 2 in store are unlocatable, then people don't drive all the way to BB just to find out there isn't any in stock.

It's happened to me for numerous other titles, the website says unavailable yet when I go, I find 1 copy of the movie I was looking for.

Re: Dazed And Confused: Criterion?

Best Buy had one copy when I got there. And none when I left.

That also occurs when someone orders a title for in-store pickup and the BB employee who has to go fetch is too lazy to look for it. They'll say the item couldn't be found at the store and the website will mark it as "Unavailable", since the local BB essentially is saying their inventory is wrong. That has happened to me numerous times. I'll end up stopping by anyway and find the item sitting on a shelf.

Finally a DVD of Dazed that has the approval of both Rick Linklater and Wiley Wiggins. This is the one we've all been waiting for. Mine should be arriving in the next few days.

Re: Dazed And Confused: Criterion?

Can anyone verify what is or is not missing between the CC and the "Flashback Edition"? I'd hate to sell of my "Flashback Edition" if some of the special features did not make it over to the CC.
Thanks.

Thanks.

Bob, all nine deleted scenes on the Flashback DVD are on the Criterion set (I checked), plus an additional eight deleted scenes. (17 total)

As for "what is on the Flashback DVD, but isn't on the Criterion set?"
  • The Blunt Truth - Side-Splitting Institutional Filmstrip On The Dangers Of Partying
  • Retro Public Service Announcements

Though I doubt anyone is going to miss those.

Re: Dazed And Confused: Criterion?

Scott, thanks for the clarifiaction. I did however find those 2 extras to be entertaining. Think I'll hold onto my Flashback Edition as well.

Re: Dazed And Confused: Criterion?

The Crying Chief PSA is on the disc, although you have to use the "Party at the Moon Tower" random play all feature on disc 2 to see it.

Re: Dazed And Confused: Criterion?

Mine arrived yesterday. Can't wait to set aside some time next week to watch both discs. The 72 page book was also very impressive. If only all dvds were this lavishly presented

Don't really see the point of the poster though - is any adult seriously going to put it on their wall?
