Batman Begins' sequel: The Dark Knight (Merged) - Page 12

Re: Batman Begins' sequel (Merged)

Ledger never entered my mind either. He's a good actor. So I don't feel the need to worry.

Re: Batman Begins' sequel (Merged)

Another old rumor (even discussed here) is Harvey Dent. Could the BB team be giving the hard (or soft) sell to Hugh Jackman (a perfect candidate in age, talent, and looks) on The Prestige??? I hope so.

Now that Ledger is basically confirmed...I'm pretty happy with that choice. Actually, I'm very happy

Re: Batman Begins' sequel (Merged)

Man, Hugh Jackman would be an excellent choice for Two-Face.

Re: Batman Begins' sequel (Merged)

I'm still holding out hope for Clive Owen as Two-Face. He'd bring more pathos to the character than Jackman.

Re: Batman Begins' sequel (Merged)

Very true, Patrick. With you guys throwing out so many good possibilities, I'm glad I'm not the one making the decisions.

Re: Batman Begins' sequel (Merged)

Kind of surprising about Ledger...but he is a good actor. The way Nolan directed BB, I'm sure he will get the Joker the way he wants it to be.

Ledger is a GREAT choice.

Re: Batman Begins' sequel (Merged)

this would be awsome if they did have the name as maroni in the next batman because my last name happenes to be maroni so ill b in a movie...hahaha

Re: Batman Begins' sequel (Merged)

I had concerns about how the Joker would fit into the more low-key, grounded atmosphere created in Begins. The casting of Ledger has greatly alleviated those fears. In Nolan I trust.

Liev Schreiber appears to be the current hardcore geek favorite du jour for this role elsewhere on the 'net right now, and I can't say as I'd disagree.

Re: Batman Begins' sequel (Merged)

I'd like to see Liev as Two-fAce, Either way, they would both be good.

Re: Batman Begins' sequel (Merged)

I heard Nolan likes what Singer did by having Supes Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
have a kid. So Bruce Wayne will have a kid whose mother is either some woman he fooled around with before he left the country... Just kidding! Sorry, still trying to deal with the nonsense that was the kid put into the Superman movie.
Sorry to those who liked the idea.

On a serious note. Here is the rumor regarding the Two-Face/Joker for the next movie.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Joker is the main villain. Harvey is the DA. At the trial of Joker at the end of the movie. Joker throws the acid at Harvey. Thus setting him up as Two-Face in the 3rd movie.

Hey, Bruce did have a kid in the comics, with Talia, Ras daughter.

At first, Ledger seems like an odd choice. But he is a very good actor, and I trust Nolan. I can't wait for BB2.

I had the same feeling about most of the casting decisions that Nolan made in the first movie. Look how great those turned out. I have total faith in Nolan.

The more I think about Ledger as Joker the better it sounds to me. He's tall, skinny, big wide grin and best of all he can act. I think he will own the role.

Re: Batman Begins' sequel (Merged)

I don't care who they get, just as long as they don't cheese it up like the Burton/Schumacher films did.

Devito, Swartzeneger, Carey = CORNY

I would like to see a much more serious villian, and based on Begins, I think we will.

Re: Batman Begins' sequel (Merged)

From Batman on Film, CHUD.com, and MCN, the official title of the Batman Begins sequel is THE DARK KNIGHT. Ledger is officially the Joker.

The Dark Knight title is just plain FIRE......I love it!

Re: Batman Begins' sequel (Merged)

So is it officially announced? I still haven't heard WB commit to a sequel. There's been a lot of talk about it...but no commitments.

I'll buy Ledger as the official Joker (happily) when WB announces the fricking film.

Chuck,

Comingsoon.net has the story as well. The OFFICIAL press release on the sequel will be tomorrow morning in the TRADES. It's a done deal....

Press Release:

Quote:
BURBANK, CA, 31 July 2006 – As a follow up to last year’s blockbuster Batman Begins, Christopher Nolan is set to direct Warner Bros. Pictures’ The Dark Knight, written by Jonathan Nolan, based on a story by Christopher Nolan and David Goyer. The film will be produced by Emma Thomas, Charles Roven and Christopher Nolan. Additionally, Christian Bale will resume his role as Bruce Wayne and Academy Award nominee Heath Ledger has been cast as The Joker. The announcements were made today by Jeff Robinov, President of Production, Warner Bros. Pictures.

Christopher Nolan revamped the Batman franchise in 2005 with the immensely successful Batman Begins, starring Christian Bale in the title role, which chronicled the early years of the superhero. Nolan first garnered attention from critics and fans in 2000 with the groundbreaking drama Memento, which he wrote and directed. He went on to direct the thriller Insomnia, starring Al Pacino and Robin Williams, and recently wrapped production on The Prestige, with Hugh Jackman and Bale.

Bale was most recently seen in the ensemble cast of Terrence Malick’s The New World. His other credits include Little Women, Portrait of a Lady, Metroland, American Psycho, Laurel Canyon and Steven Spielberg’s Empire of the Sun, which was his first starring role.

Ledger most recently earned Oscar Golden Globe, BAFTA and SAG Award nominations and won the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Ennis Del Mar in the award-winning drama Brokeback Mountain. His other credits include Casanova, Monster’s Ball, Lords of Dogtown, The Brothers Grimm and The Patriot.

“Chris’ unique vision is what made Batman Begins such an outstanding film and we could not imagine anyone else at the helm of The Dark Knight,” said Robinov. “We also can’t wait to see two such formidable actors as Christian and Heath face off with each other as Batman and The Joker.”

“I'm excited to continue the story we started with Batman Begins,” added Nolan. “Our challenge in casting The Joker was to find an actor who is not just extraordinarily talented but fearless. Watching Heath Ledger's interpretation of this iconic character taking on Christian Bale’s Batman is going to be incredible.”

Re: Batman Begins' sequel (Merged)

Great title. I'm glad they're geting away from "Batman _______" titles.

Re: Batman Begins' sequel (Merged)

Me too, Matt.

Just another example of how they are trying to break with the past, and strike out in new directions. For this particular franchise, it's the right choice.

Re: Batman Begins' sequel (Merged)

Nice title. I hope it stays that way. Just keep in mind that there is PLENTY of time for it to change to "Batman: The Dark Knight" if some suit thinks it is important enough to keep the "Batman _______" format.

Wasn't Spider-Man 2 originally going to be called "The Amazing Spider-Man" before it was changed to the generic title? Or was that just early speculation?

Anyway, really looking forward to "The Dark Knight"!

Re: Batman Begins' sequel (Merged)

Wow, fantastic news! Great title, great casting, great plot rumors flying about. The original was my favorite film of 2005, and it's good to finally see the ball rolling on this one. After the disheartening genre entries this summer, this and Spider-Man 3 can't get here fast enough!
