Batman Begins' sequel: The Dark Knight (Merged) - Page 9

I like Weiz for Talia, and agree, it would make a great angle to set up Raz for a return in a 3rd movie.

I think Angela Bettis from "May" would make a good Harley. She can really pull of the crazy vibe and be threatening, while maintaining a girly inocence.
Ugh! I hope that rumor is false. Rachael Weisz was in that b-movie Constantine.

She was also in that AAA movie "The Constant Gardener" and will hopefully earn a Supporting Actress nod for it. Weisz is a great actress who also doesn't seem opposed to doing genre work and I'd love to see her in a Batman sequel (agree on her being an excellent choice for Talia).

I can't see Nolan using Harley Quinn for his vision of Batman(unless WB is forcing him to use her). But Weisz would make an excellent Talia.
I want someone a little more exotic than Weisz for Talia.

I've always envisioned Catherine Zeta-Jones in the role.

I know what you mean, Patrick. I would have felt the same way if not for what happened with Liam Neeson in Batman Begins. Because of that, this casting makes a lot of sense since she could pass for his daughter more believably than someone more exotic-looking.

Liev Schreiber is said to be a top contender for the role of Harvey Dent. What I love is that Nolan is looking to cast great actors in key roles instead of the "who's hot right now" approach that WB employed in the past with the previous 'Batman' flicks.

Nolan's trilogy will give WB a great jumping off point for future directors to follow with the franchise. What Nolan is doing is laying a great foundation for the franchise, something that (in my opinion) didn't really happen with the previous four films.

WB's grand plan is to have a major superhero franchise flick every year. Last year had "Batman Begins", this year will have "Superman Returns", next year is supposed to see the launch of "Wonder Woman", sequels to 'Begins' and 'Returns' will hit theaters in 2008 and 2009 respectively.

would love to see Talia, but Harley seems to me a character that is made for animation and the special way that people interface with animation. i saw that they were putting out a monthly comic with the character headlining it, and the style was more realistically rendered and it just looked...wrongheaded (on the other hand, i loved the Timm mini series of Harley & Ivy)
i like the character too, but i like it in the context of the animated show, where stories are concise and her 'schtick' meshes well with the conventions and liberties of animated storytelling.

to make her live action, you would either have to radically change her or the tone of the entire film for her to fit and either path seems distasteful to me.

i wonder if Warner will purposefully 'leak' the script just to see what kind of feedback they get.
i don't know if they did that the last time, but the early word was so positive it surely couldn't have hurt.
They surely will not leak a script intentionally... but they might float broad concepts.
What they ought to do is simply trust in the Nolan.
I think Nolan has earned that from the studio. And I think they know that.

I agree with Paul about Harley. I love the character, but she really fits TAS, not the film.

Weisz can be ridiculously hot when required. She's also having a kid with previous possible Bat-director Darren Aronofsky. But I don't think Talia is right for the second film.

Liev Shreiber would be an excellent choice for Two-Face.

Not one that's terribly up with the characters in Batman, so please forgive me for asking but, who is Talia?
A telepath, (oops wrong franchise).

Talia is Ras Al Ghul's daughter who has been romantically involved with Bruce Wayne, to the point that Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
she supposedly bore his child in an out-of-continuity graphic novel, "Son of the Demon".
Son of the Demon was written *in* continuity in the late 80's. Some decision was made in the mid-90's (I guess...I quit well before then) to say it wasn't, though the story had no bearing on normal Batman comics.

In Son of the Demon:
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Bruce and Talia are married with Ra's consent (they have teamed up to track down a much worse killer). She gets pregnant and he gets somewhat protective. In the penultimate conflict, she gets hurt. Bruce is told that Talia miscarried (somewhat devastating to an orphan). Batman finishes the job, and leaves them. Several months later, Talia gives birth. It ends with a lucky couple in the middle of nowhere being given a perfectly healthy baby (boy, I believe). The End. The idea is that Batman and Talia have a baby, being raised by a regular family somewhere.

Furthermore, Kingdom Come takes it a little further:
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
And their son is currently the head of the Al Ghul empire, and is the spitting image of his father. It's just background to the real story of Kingdom Come. I simply included it to show that THEY (Mark Waid and Alex Ross) took it as in continuity DC history.

That's all irrelevant. Talia is a very Bond-like character...beautiful, deadly, in love with the hero, but the daughter of a great villain.

The proof of this is in that short-lived TV Show "Birds Of Prey", where the character was butchered, even though it was played by a cool actress.
Nolan and Goyer really impressed me with how they handled all the characters in 'Begins'. I'm very confident that if they are indeed going to work Talia into the storyline, that it'll satisfy most of the fans.

In Nolan's trilogy, Ras is supposed to be a constant threat in his attempts to destroy Gotham, working Talia into the mix is a very logical step.
Thanks, all for that explanation. Sounds like an interesting character.
Reading this thread makes me want to watch BB on DVD again and want the sequel even more.
I hear ya! Batman and it's sequels have semi-replaced the void LOTR left when it concluded. I check batman news sites daily for the newest rumors. I'm certifiably hooked.

Could be total BS. But, the following was posted at www.imdb.com news section.

Quote:
Brokeback star Jake Gyllenhaal is being touted as Gotham City district attorney Harvey Dent in the next Batman sequel, along with Paul Bettany, who may play the Joker. Gyllenhaal would play Gotham City's good-guy lawyer, who mutates into his alter-ego, Two-Face, in the third film. In the sequel, Batman would team with Harvey Dent to destroy the Joker, according to moviehole.net. Tommy Lee Jones formerly played Dent/Two-Face on the big screen in Batman & Robin. Star Chrisitan Bale is set to return, as well as Michael Caine as butler Alfred.
I don't know about that one. He seems too young to play Dent. He might be alright once he becomes Two-Face.

And that article is wrong when it says that TLJ played Two-Face in Batman & Robin. I don't know if that signals BS or what, just pointing it out.

yeah i saw that too.
it should have said "Tommy Lee Jones formerly played Jack Nicholson playing the Joker as Two-face on the big screen in Batman Forever."

I'm not sure about the casting choices, but I like the general story idea (Batman teams with Dent to take down Joker, then Dent goes nuts and becomes the focus of part III).
Matt Damon would make an excellent Two-Face. The only downside is that he's a bit too young to be a DA.

We've already hashed over the actors for the Joker I think Bettany would be a fine choice.

I also like the story, as Two-Face is a fantastic villain.
And it allows Dent and Batman to develop a closer relationship before Dent goes bad, heightening the drama and tension in the 3rd film.
I think Vin Diesel with a little bit of hair would also make a great Two Face.. He has the voice and the look.
I would be totally in favor of a Liev Schreiber Harvey Dent-especially as he's portrayed in The Long Halloween. And if they can work the line "I believe in Jim Gordon. I believe in Harvey Dent. I believe in Gotham City." somewhere into the film, I'll be quite happy.
I've always thought that to make the psychological scarring of Harvey Dent even more pronounced, you have to cast a very good looking man, a man who could easily fall prey to his own vanity, so that when half of his face, his identity, is literally boiled/burned away with the acid thrown in his face, you could buy the whole "good/evil" dichotomy that rages within him once he settles down from the physical scarring, and works itself way through to the emotional/psychological scarring of Harvey Dent.

This means perhaps casting Jude Law or Johnny Depp or Clive Owen as Harvey Dent.
I think Depp and Law would be wrong (I used to like the choice of Law, but now I don't think he would be ideal). Dent/Two-Face should also have a strong physical presence. I think Clive Owen can be added to the fairly long list of inspired choices that this very thread has spit out.
