In North America, Canada and USA

Walmart, Best Buy, Future Shop, Sears, Costco?

Mine is probably between Walmart or Best Buy. Best selection.

I buy the most of mine online at... deepdiscountdvd.com... will use amazon.com when cheaper... other then that... Walmart... we don't have a best buy in the are.

Walmart is usually where I buy my DVDs, with occasional purchases at Target and amazon.com.

Here in Ontario, I buy almost exclusively from online sources. Mostly amazon, bestbuy and thecnl. I do price comparisons. The advantage to bestbuy is that all shipping is free, regardless of the value of the order. But with thecnl, I only get charged GST, since they're in BC, and I'm in Ontario.

I also buy from amazon in the UK, for my R2 titles - lots of Brit mysteries, etc. (Kavanagh QC, A Touch of Frost, Inspector Morse, Trial & Retribution, etc.). Even with the exhange, the UK titles are often cheaper than the North American counterparts (if they exist). For example, the complete 33-episode box set of Morse from the UK is WAY cheaper than buying the North American releases.

I've come to loath the bricks-and-mortar Future Shop, Best Buy and Walmart DVD shopping experience. They rarely have the titles I want, and their stock is so poorly organized and displayed that I end up leaving in frustration.

I buy all of my TV DVD's at an electronics super store exclusive to Nebraska. It's called the MegaMart, a division of Nebraska Furniture Mart. They have every single new release on sale the Tuesday it comes out for unheard of prices. DAllas season 3 is on sale next week for $26.99. LOve it!

I don't have a wide variety of places to choose from where I live, but deepdiscountdvd.com is a great online source, as is amazon.com.

Wal-Mart is good, although we won't have 1 here for another 9 to 11 months.

That about sums it up for me. I rarely buy DVD's at local stores because in most cases the online prices at either of the above-mentioned sites are cheaper than local outlets but there are some exceptions. The only drawback to online DVD's is the return/waiting for shipping thing. Amazon's great and convient about exchanges for the infamous "scuffed disk[s] during shipping" hassle.

98% of tv dvds I order online. Usually deep discount or amazon whichever is cheaper. Have also had a few from buy.com when they have a coupon that makes it the cheapest.

I usually get mine at Sam's Club. Their dvds are usually at least $5.00 cheaper than Best Buys.

Target because they are cheaper their than any place else I probably would go to...

I buy most of my sets at Wal Mart, Amazon.ca, Archambault and FutureShop.

Archambault? are you serious? unless they have changed their pricing, they are as bad as HMV. won't catch me shopping at those crooks'

Wal-Mart, Deepdiscountdvd.com

I buy a lot of mine at pawn shops, their selection is hit or miss, but when you find a title you like at one, you can't beat the price. Other than that, I go to Best Buy, Wal Mart or Fred Meyers

Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Amazon and DeepDiscountDVD

Best Buy. Their recent RewardZone specials have really been a boon.
I always grab a Sunday paper and compare the Best Buy, Circuit City and Target ads. I check Wal-Mart on the way to Best Buy Tuesday mornings and will purchase a few here and there depending on who is the cheapest. All four stores are located within a mile of the others.

I agree with Greg, these Best Buy Reward Zone specials have been nice...and they'll help me save on future purchases too.

DVDEmpire and DeepDiscountDVD have been my online places to shop. I prefer a B&M store though. I like to grab a handfull of boxes and make sure I pick the best one. Fit, finish, no tears or gouges...

Save up and wait for the twice a year additional 20% off sale at Deepdiscountdvd.
Since everyone does that, they're probably only having that sale once a year now.

If anybody else does this and isn't aware...there is a thread over in Coupons and Bargains posted early every Sunday morning (usually not too long after Midnight eastern time ) that compares all the BB, CC, Target & CostCo prices for the new releases in any given week. It also includes all the individual special sale info for each store...as well as some of the occasional prices from other stores such as K-Mart or CompUSA. And, there's usually a pretty healthy discussion of what HTFers are buying (and sometimes not buying)...and where the BEST bargains are lurking.

If you ever want to check it out, come on over and pull up a chair in Coupons & Bargains. The thread is called The Weekly RoundUp.

DeepDiscount is almost always the cheapest on-line price. There shipping time is a little longer than some sites, so if I want to have the DVD on day and date, I'll usually pick it up at Best Buy.

I'm in Canada, and fairly steadily use Amazon.ca. I've found that for most of the sets that I've bought, their price has been better than BestBuy or Futureshop.

It helps that I usually pre-order things as soon as they go up. (Thanks TVShowsonDVD.com!) If you do it early enough, you can save a lot of money, because they move the price around quite a bit after the listing first goes up.

For example: I ordered Lost season one pretty soon after it went up, at 50 bucks. It's now at 60. Same thing with Alias season four. Sometimes the price can randomly go down too, so I check out my pre-orders every once in a while. The Undeclared set randomly went from 40 down to 30 one day, so I cancelled and then ordered it at the lower price. It's back up to 40 again. I've never had them cancel my order and say there was a mistake in the price. (Well, it happened once, but that was when the anniversary edition of London Calling was coming out, and should have been at 40 dollars or something, and it had been listed at 8).

The sets are pretty much always shipped so that I get them on either the Tuesday or the Wednesday that they come out. I'm too lazy to go out to the stores every week, and when I have checked out the prices, they've been the same or more.

Target, which is (along with Disneyland and the Madonna Inn) the happiest place on Earth.
Usually deepdiscountdvd.com (especially during the 20% sales)

But I usually wind up making several purchases at Best Buy every month due to being a Reward Zone member. Their RZ exclusive discounts have become more and more frequent the past couple months (and lots of them are TV boxset-related), so there have been some great deals. Plus, it always helps when you have a Reward Zone $5 certificate or two to go along with it.

When I get word that a new movie or TV show is going to be released - "Blessings upon Gord Lacey and tvshowsondvd.com" has become my new mantra! - I get online and start comparison shopping.

My brothers and I are all tightwads, so comparison shopping is our passion. I go to the websites of "brick and mortar" stores in our area and compare. Costco, Fry's, and Wal Mart get most of our business, but Best Buy and Circuit City have gotten our DVD money as well.
Up until this point I have purchased most of my tv-dvds at either Wal-Mart, Ebay or F.Y.E. But since I have been checking DeepDiscountDvd's prices, I am starting to see you cant beat them. But like someone else said before, when you go to a store you can pick out the best package, because you know alot of times the boxes will have rips or something along those lines.

Seems like it can be a crap shoot from week to week. I too always check the Sunday ads. Though it's a regional store, Meijer can be one of the best places. They have an excellent price matching policy, and they're open 24 hours, so you can always pick up new releases on Monday night/Tuesday morning, and get a pot roast, lawn furniture, a car battery and a new pair of sneakers at the same time, if you want.

Most of the time, though, I find Amazon has great prices on TV sets.
I buy all of mine at Best Buy. They're the best by any means as far as not having to wait for shipping. Since I have a store in my town, I'm able to go every Tuesday and grab what I want that day!

If you haven't checked it out, HERE'S this week's Weekly RoundUp.

This week features: I Love Lucy: Season 5, Andy Griffith Show: Season 3, Will & Grace: Season 4, The Simpsons: Season 6, and The Office: Season 1...among others!

I buy a lot of things from deepdiscountdvd.com.
Locally, I WAS buying a lot from Best Buy. But they are getting worse about keeping up with new releases. I told them if they would keep getting new releases on time I would certainly buy them but they just looked at me.......
Our local Wal Mart is GETTING BETTER about getting new releases on time, but they still dont quite get it. If I find them for good prices locally I will buy them, other wise I will stick with deep discount dvd. I also buy from Amazon on occasion.
