1. Evelyn - B+ (I don't watch the Bond movies, but Brosnan has done some really good work outside of those, including this one)

2. Mao's Last Dancer - B+
3. Driving Miss Daisy - D (a fine movie in its technical aspects and acting, but it presents a racial situation and then papers over any sort of conflict, while then making Daisy an "equal" victim because of her religion)
4. Double Jeopardy - F (had to look this up to remember that I saw it. I had successfully wiped it from the memory banks.)

Own: 0

I keep meaning to see Breaker Morant.

Driving Miss Daisy (1989) 1/2

Her Alibi (1989)

Aria (1987) (segment "Die tote Stadt") 1/2 - Don't remember which segment this is, but none of it impresses me all that much.

3. Double Jeopardy (the entire premise is wrong, but better than the recent Judd-in-crisis-thrillers)

Re: Even More Directors Series - Volume Twenty Two - Bruce Beresford

This supercedes Post #11 which I deleted in error.

In order of merit:

1.Black Robe (1991) ***
2.Driving Miss Daisy (1989) **1/2
3.Her Alibi (1989) **1/2
4.King David (1985) **1/2
5.Silent Fall (1994) **

1989 was a generally weak year for movies and that is borne out by the fact that sentimental pap like DRIVING MISS DAISY walks away with 4 Academy Awards including Best Picture. Having said that, I wouldn't mind checking out some of Aussie Beresford's earlier home-ground efforts like DON'S PARTY (1976), THE GETTING OF WISDOM (1978) and, especially, BREAKER MORANT (1980).

Mao's Last Dancer - B+

The emotions and dancing are enough to overcome the formulaic biopic plot.
