I'm thinking the same thing, but I won't get the Italy set for Six Million Dollar Man season 3 because it doesn't have the Bigfoot episodes. I'd much rather wait and get both from the UK, but I'll take the German set for Bionic Woman if that is all that I can get.

At least the Bigfoot episodes are on one of the old "individual" R2 releases, which you should be able to find cheaply on the secondhand market now, so, at least they're available.

The quality of the transfers of the German Bionic Woman Season 3 set is on par with the previous Season sets from the UK and Australia, which is to say excellent.

I've been watching the Mexican Six Million Dollar Man Season 1 set, and I have to say it renders the previous UK/Australian sets virtually useless. Besides being NTSC (non-time compressed) and unedited, the transfers are far superior. The only real problem is that the episodes vary between progressive and interlaced. In the 35+ years I've been watching this show, I've never seen it look better. I can finally retire my VHS tapes of the 1978-1980 syndication run, and the early '90s Sci-Fi Channel airings. I'm keeping my UK set for the three pilots in their (bastardized) two-part versions.

Here is a screen-shot comparison from Episode 1.04, "Day of the Robot". The UK is on the left; Mex on the right. This comparison is pretty indicative of all the episodes, with the UK transfers being very under-saturated and poorly color-timed.

Nobody seems to know. What's also strange is that it does include "Welcome Home, Jaime - Part I" (which is shown in syndication and on DVD as a Bionic Woman episode, along with "Part II," which was the premiere episode of BW as a series,) but does not include "Part II."

Most websites still (incorrectly) list "The Secret of Bigfoot - Parts I & II" as being included in the set...

BTW... In case it hasn't been mentioned: While the Mexican SMDM Season 1 set is great, the Mex Bionic Woman Season 1 set is to be avoided. Not only are the transfers atrocious, they are each (poorly) edited by 5-7 minutes, with several missing their epilogs. It's a shame, since it would have been nice to have this one in unedited/NTSC/Region 1 form, too.

So the UK isn't? So they still use the English pound on the UK AMazon? Do you know how much musicafilms charges for shipping to the USA? I just bought season 2 from the UK and plan to get season 3 later this year.

Correct, the UK has not joined the Single Currency, and still uses the British Pound, and that is the currency that Amazon. UK uses.

By your question, I am guessing musicafilms is an Amazon MarketPlace seller? If so, the standard international shipping charge for DVD's from such sellers is £3.08, and at the moment, that is roughly US$4.40

I have both the UK and Mexican Season 1 boxes, as well as the Italian Season 3, and the solo Bigfoot.

Agreed the Mexican release has thorough color correction, giving the blacks a consistency they never had during the original broadcasts. The UK version is like an aged version of the original - see The Rescue of Athena One: on the UK set, Farrah's shots during EVA had blacks several notches lighter than the stock footage it was intercut with, as was true originally. This has finally been fixed in the Mexican release, unless you have religion on the original look, which they probably would have fixed at the time if they had the time or money. The Mexican set also has the boat-whittling scene from Operation Firefly intact, a deficiency of the UK set. I have found no U.S. reachable seller online other than Amazon for this set.

The one complaint besides the interlaced issue mentioned above that I have is a quibble over midtones; the flesh tones are too consistently "flesh" looking, a result IMHO of over-correction. I saw 2 "data hits", one as the plane lands in Geneva in The Solid Gold Kidnapping. Anyone else see this?

The Italian set. As glad as I am to finally see these episodes again, I have to say "boo!"
The color on this set is very flat looking. Inspecting titles reveal analog bleed, so this is not a new, from film transfer. Having said that, many don't look "bad", per se, but watching it against the UK Bionic Woman is devastating. Even the UK Bigfoot release puts it to shame. Two episodes, The Price of Liberty and Hocus Pocus, are out in both the UK and Italy- again it's not even close, the UK wins hands down. The Italian title of the episodes are not in a subtitle track, but actually burned into the video. I do love that the Italian version of the intro simply knocks out the dialog track- a great way to see it.

I am given to understand that the Bigfoot episodes from Season 3 never aired in Italy, nonetheless there is a long record of DVD rectifying such omissions, say the US release of The Prisoner for example giving US audience the episode they missed. Welcome Home, Jaime, is not included, I went through a whole ritual when I got to that part, switching disks to watch the two shows alternately, as they aired. Something I hadn't done since 76, and they did a lot of cross-promotion, so it is definitely a "thing."

I wish the Home Video releases would include all episodes broadcast in a season. I have no objection to adding things, like Kill Oscar II joining I & III in The Bionic Woman, so long as it still comes with the show that originated it. Dupe them, don't move them, it's only 3 episodes. Are they still trying to operate off of the old syndication deal? AAaaaaagh!

Thought I would mention that ezyDVD is advertising a R4 (Australian) re-release for Seasons 1 and 2 of Six Million Dollar Man. Each of the re-releases are in two parts - Part 1 (3 disks) and Part 2 (3 disks).

Unfortunately they haven't got too many details up, other than a release date of July 1, 2009 and price of Aus$19.97 for each Part.

Hopefully they'll put more information up soon. Be interesting if the content has been remastered or not.

 Season 4 of The Six Million Dollar Man is set for a French release on 22 September. Sadly, the French typically do not include an english audio track; doubtless this will be the case again.

This will be the season's first release on DVD anywhere (bootlegs aside), so hopefully other Region 2 countries will follow suit.

 An update on the above: the French are apparently already releasing season 4 in "singles", actually 3 episodes per release, as was done in the UK briefly before the season boxes. Find these "singles" here.

Any information as to the quality of these releases would be appreciated. The movie events "The Thunderbird Connection" and "The Bionic Boy," presented as usual in two part syndicated form, are "VOST", i.e. with the English original sound.

Not surprisingly, every episodes that include Jaime Sommers on those DVD sets are all out of stock. That means DVD #21- The Return of Bigfoot, #18- Welcome Home Jaime, and #12- The Bionic Woman. All other DVDs are still available.

With the exception of discs 1 and 2, the series is presented 3 episodes-per-disc in chronological order.  This results in the two-parters "Return of Bionic Woman" and "Death Probe" to be split over different discs.  "Death Probe Part 2" should be the first episode on the not-yet-listed 26th volume (assuming they continue to release the series.)


Discs 1 and 2 are the only volumes to boldly claim on the cover "Over 3 Hours of Entertainment!", due to the odd running times and formats of the pilots, which are presented in mishmash fashion.  "Wine, Women & War" is labeled as "pilots" (actually the second pilot,) and most likely is in its original 90-minute version, since it's not indicated as "2 parts".  The actual first pilot is listed by its two-part syndication version, "Moon and the Desert".  The third pilot, "Solid Gold Kidnapping", is also listed in its two-part syndication version.  The first three actual episodes, "Population", "Survival", and "Firefly" are in their proper sequence, albeit interrupted by the mis-sequenced pilots.  I'd guess this configuration is due to the odd lengths of the pilots, and their desire to keep them, and the first three episodes, on just two discs.


Discs 3 and 14 are not listed on the retailer's website for some reason.  But they should contain the following episodes:

Discs 23 and 24 contain two episodes originally aired as two-hour "movies ("Bionic Boy"; "Thunderbird Connection") but are listed in their two-part syndication versions.  These are the only two volumes to boldly indicate on the cover that the episodes are "VOST" (original English language with French subtitles.)  I don't know if the subtitles are burned-in or optional.


As an odd surprise, disc 18 features "Welcome Home Jaime", seemingly indicating it's just Part 1, which was originally a SMDM episode, but is traditionally syndicated and on DVD as a "Bionic Woman" episode (Part 2 was the first episode of BW as its own series.)  If so, this is very strange to include this episode by itself, as Lee Majors makes only a brief cameo appearance, and it's the first half of a two-part story.  However, it would be the first time this episode was ever released with its proper SMDM titles and credits, with the closing tag, "To Be Continued on The Bionic Woman".  Too bad it's in French only.


As usual, the Season 4 episode, "Kill Oscar Part 2" is missing from the line-up (it would fall exactly between discs 23 and 24.)  This makes the inclusion of "Welcome Home Jaime (Part 1)" even more odd.  "Kill Oscar Part 2" was the middle part of a three-part story which begins and concludes on "Bionic Woman".


Once again, the cover art is typically bland, with the same five images repeated for the 25 volumes (3 of the images are also "reversed".)


These volumes cover the pilots, the first three seasons, and two-thirds of season four.

"Welcome Home Jaime" will certainly get the original english version opening and ending credits even though the rest of the episode will be dubbed in French.

As for the missing "Kill Oscar" trilogy, it might make sense that this three part episode is "owned" by the Bionic Woman franchise and is appearing on The Bionic Woman DVD counterparts.

 Thanks for the lowdown, Matt. I take it you used online materials with a knowledge of French to produce that, as you seem to indicate that you haven't viewed the content.

If anyone can confirm original credits are on Welcome Home Jaime, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. 

In general, I'm on a quest for the broadcast versions. While El Hombre Nuclear (the Mexican release) has the three 1973 TV Movies in original broadcast form, there are interlacing issues so I'm not "done" on that front; the French Wine, Women and War might be worth it for me. 

The 3 'reassigned' episodes are easier, with Welcome Home Jaime the toughest, and The Return of Bigfoot Part II the easiest in terms of retrofitting to broadcast from the syndicated variants. Getting WHJ with original credits would really make a difference. 

The notion of The Bionic Woman "owning" the 2 episodes it got from Six (and Six owning the season 2 premiere it got from Woman) is consistent with the distribution of the shows since they were packaged for syndication in 1978. Fans who missed the broadcast run may yawn at this stuff. It's just different for some of us who remember how it was originally before they changed it. Is TV history OK to rewrite?
