New editions of 4 Muppet movies coming soon! Widescreen confirmed. - Page 4

From a Disney e-mail:

In celebration of Kermit's 50th Anniversary, THE MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL, THE MUPPET MOVIE, THE GREAT MUPPET CAPER, and MUPPET TREASURE ISLAND will be released on Disney DVD. These titles will be released in both Widescreen and Fullscreen formats and are tentatively scheduled to be released on November 29, 2005.

The covers are ugly, but the discs specs looks like this will be a worth re-edition!
The digitalbits also confirms the Disney info that dual-aspect ratios will be presented for all 4 titles.

Hip-Hip...Hurray!

I am encouraged with the new "news," but knowing the parties involved, I think I'll withhold my cheers until someone has actually purchased one of these discs and seen OAR with their own eyes.

With the exception of OAR presentations... not to my eyes!

The extras all look like fluff material and I don't know about anyone else but I am personally getting sick of seeing that stupid shrimp muppet popping up everywhere to offer his loud sarcastic opinion.

If the pq is improved however, these will be definite purchases and will fit nicely into my current editions and I'll be glad to toss these new covers into the recycling bin!

Here are some covers:

Same here. Where the hell did he come from, anyway? He wasn't one of the original Muppet Show characters, yet in every new Muppet feature he's center stage like he's one of the most beloved characters or something.

Most annoying, maybe.

I agree that the "Pepe Profiles Present" will probably be stupid, but the "Backstage Disney" (which wasn't in the original press release when I slammed the set earlier for its lack of special features) for each of the movies could potentially be interesting. I'm sure they have a lot of archival material that could form something special, assuming they put a little effort into it.

Great news about the OAR, I'll be picking these up at some point for sure

What's with the lack of love for Pepe the Prawn?

Oh, I didn't notice that feature in the revised specs...

And Pepe is the worst character creation in the history of The Muppet Show. He's like a louder more annoying in-your-face version of that flying fish throwing muppet, only he's supposed to have a "hip" and "edgy" contemporary twist. I think they're trying to promote him as some sort of crappy identity for the new generation of a more "racier" controversial muppet franchise that they seem to be trying to market. I hate him and his unfunny social commentaries.

Down with the shrimp!

Tell us how you really feel, okay?

Who does va for this character?

He has the most annoying voice too. He kind of reminds me of the dog puppet from Conan only minus the wit.

"Who does va for this character?"
Bill Barretta. He also does Rowlf the Dog, The Sweedish Chef, Dr. Teeth, & Johnny Fiama.

Wow, I've finally found people other than myself who hate Pepe. I thought I was the only one.

Just be glad that the movies aren't being hosted by Elmo...

(one of the reasons I can't stomach the columbia Sesame St. DVDs...almost every single one of them is an Elmo-event...)
Why is that Muppets and Sesame Street characters that were created after Jim Henson's death so annoying and forgettable? Jim really was a genius and he knew how to create interesting characters.
It probably has something to do with you not growing up watching those characters. You'd probably have a fond place in your heart for Elmo if you watched him when you were 4. Since you didn't, you're annoyed by him.

True enough. I like a lot of the Muppets Tonight! characters, especially Bobo and, yeah, Pepe. A lot of them are kind of weak, and I think that's in part because they haven't had a chance to really evolve - look how unformed Piggy was during the first season of The Muppet Show.

It's all a matter of opinion I suppose. I liked most of the Muppets tonight characters (including Pepe), but really don't like Miss Piggy. All the other originals are great, but I just found piggy really annoying and unfunny most of the time.

I've got that book (the monstor at the end of this book) on my desk at work. Bought it off of ebay a year ago and keep it proudly displayed...
My favorite was the Sweedish Chef. Still is in fact.

I can't wait to pick all of these up the day they come out, I haven't seen Muppet Treasure Island or the Great Muppet Caper in so long...

I'm glad they'll be in 16:9, but according to that PR release, MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL is the *CUT* 85 minute version, with "When Love is Gone" excised.

With that song (so vital to the movie) missing -- cut because of Disney studio interference -- I'll have to keep my laserdisc spinning (and make that DVD-R copy!).

This is a big disappointment and quite curious -- wasn't the 4:3 DVD full-screen version the full 89 minute version?? Figures they'd get the time right there and the aspect ratio wrong, and now vice versa!!

Gee, David....that's a Grover bit I hadn't thought of in over 20 years. Thanks for giving me a good chuckle.
It is possible that the press release is wrong about the runtime on Christmas Carol.

I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Didn't one of the VHS releases have the song integrated back in the movie?
Yes, mine has.
