After being rather underwhelmed with Van Sant's films, I was quite surprised when Elephant came along and blew me away.

I completely agree on both counts.

I watched most of Finding Forrester, but just couldn't make myself care about how it ended. Drugstore Cowboy is a movie I can watch almost any time. Would like to see Mala Noche some day.

Don't own anything by Van Sant, and the pretension factor of his recent work really seems to be going off the charts. Still interested to see the Psycho remake, though, even if by all accounts it sucks.
